On Monday afternoon the Pacific Princess departed San Pedro for Ensenada, Mexico where it remained overnight. Tuesday evening, I noticed that the Pacific Princess had departed Ensenada, Mexico with Hawaii as the destination. Anyone know the purpose of this cruise? As the ship is under a "no sail" order from the CDC could the stop in Mexico be a means of circumventing the do not sail order or is it a normal stop as required by the PVSA? Could this be a corporate holiday for the PCL executives?

I don't think Princess is having any corporate holiday during this pandemic situation.

I believe Carnival has 27 ships.  Only 1/4 of the fleet will be sailing per the article.   Would expect Princes to only sail with a quarter of the fleet also.  Lots of cancelled cruises.  Just more money to refund.

The eight Carnival ships announced will start sailing (per schedule) on August 1. Remaining ships will be phased into service beginning on Sept 1.

Isn't the muster drill as much for the crew as for the passengers? They are the ones who will have to be in charge in case of a real emergency.

I wouldn't think the crew would need to do the drill every week.

I don't know if there ever was a survey done, but I would guess very few pay a lot of attention during the airline briefing. And I wonder how many pay a lot of attention on a cruise especially when packed like sardines on deck by the lifeboat. Are most just thinking when will this finally be over?

We haven't had to muster on deck in quite a few years. Not on Princess, NCL, Oceania, Viking, etc. Last one I remember was on HAL, and that was at least nine years ago. I waS standing directly under  one of the loudspeakers, and it was LOUD.

    Seems very simple to me,

US flagged ships must follow US wage/labor/tax laws if visiting/embarking/disembarking at US ports.

Non US flagged ships do NOT have to follow US wage/labor/tax laws if visiting/embarking/disembarking at US ports.

Will travel on US flagged ships cost more?   Yes, but it will give consumers more choices.

Not more choices. ATM there is only one ocean-going cruise ship to choose. The NCL Pride of America, operating in Hawaii.

This just seems an odd response. What if I had minimal finger surgery, does this mean I wouldn't be able to cruise? I ask this oddly and for me, it may require a night stay because I don't deal with anthesthia (sp?) well.

She didn't say that if you had been hospitalized within the last two months you will be denied. She said if you haven't, you won't be (referring to the chronic illnesses). If you have no underlying condition, the rule doesn't even factor in.

Researchers from Harvard are saying we will be social distancing until 2022 so I really doubt we are going to be getting on a cruise ship before then....not until a vaccine is found which if everything went perfect could not happen until next Spring where millions of people would have to be vaccinated....

That would mean no major college or professional sporting events, or concerts, etc. As many people as 30 cruise ships. Maybe just pay for view? No fans in attendance.

"Princess cancelled our June 2020 Alaska cruise this week."

    Sorry,

I understood that you cancelled in January, then booked next year's cruise as a replacement. I gather you only booked the "backup" cruise in January, but did not cancel your June 2020 booking. You should get full benefit. Sorry that I couldn't follow. You never said you cancelled in Jan, I just assumed that. Well, we know what that means.

Pure speculation regarding schedules for other ships with timing dependent on a vaccine, country/port clearances, crew/labor markets, costs (and available workforce) to return ships to acceptable standards.  The US no-sail order extends through July.

I don't say any of this lightly having reservations on Enchanted for an October Med cruise then its first TA.  Its likely more cost effective to keep Enchanted in a pre-operational status and activate existing ships than it is to finish Enchantment.

Not exactly. Guess I could have been clearer.

Princess cancelled our June 2020 Alaska cruise this week.

Anticipating the cancellation, we booked a replacement Alaska in January 2020.  The replacement cruise is in July 2021.

I've been searching using all of the search terms I can think of but am still unable to find a link to this offer. Any help would be much appreciated.

Did you cancel in January? If so, you're out of luck.  "Princess will honor this offer for those guests who had made final payment and cancelled their booking on or after February 4, 2020. The future cruise credit can be used on any voyage departing through May 1, 2022." If you didn't cancel, but just booked the other cruise as a backup, then you should be okay.

I am puzzled. On December 20 this year the Pacific is scheduled to depart Sydney Australia for a round trip voyage to New Zealand, not cruising in the Caribbean.

Are you on the Island Princess?

You're right. We are on the Island. We did that trip on the Pacific in 2017. We are also considering the Pacific Honolulu to Tahiti in September. So, that's why I got confused. Thank you.

reminds me of the time my wife and I were cruising the warm Caribbean.  She and I had been out dancing and partying til the wee hours of the morning light. We staggered back to our cabin and planted out tiered bodies face down on the pillows. When we awoke late in the day we had melted chocolate on our faces.

and on the pillow, I'm sure.

At this point I think that many cruise ships will remain in "cold layup" for the remainder of the year.  Lines will bring back ships on a gradual basis in order to deal with issues attracting and staging crew members and filling the ships with paying passengers.  The cruise industry will not be like a spigot that simply gets turned-on.  The airlines will also go through a gradual return to their new normal.  I now wonder if cruising will ever return to what it was.

    Hank

There is a post earlier on this forum (Apr 16) that shows a gradual return to service (by ship), beginning on July 3 and running up to mid-September or later. (I'm looking at Pacific starting Sep 16 to Hawaii and Tahiti. (I want to book one of those segments.)

  13. I got a moreover offer for my 27 Jan 15-day cruise, SF to Hawaii and back jn a balcony on the Grand. I rebooked a 20 Dec 14-day Caribbean cruise on the Pacific. I got a mini-suite paid for, plus OBC for the full amount of my fare. I also got my EZ Air transferred to fully cover airfare for the new cruise. My Pacific cruise shows as paid in full, as does my new EZ Air arrangements. My account also shows all the OBC promised, plus what little other OBC I had on the original booking. My prepaid gratuities are also showing. BTW, I was told that any unused OBC will be refunded after my cruise. I am a happy cruiser! I fully expect the Dec cruise to sail, but who knows?

We booked a July 2021 Alaska cruise three months ago (January) to replace our just cancelled June 2020 cruise. Wondering if we might qualify for this OBC offer but don't know where to look.

    Thanks for the heads up!

I would think not. You cancelled in January, before any of this was going on. However, go back to the original (March) announcement about cancellations. There was to be some benefits to those who cancelled before Princess shutdown, but after the virus became a consideration. You might fall in that category.

This also will require the Port of Seattle allowing the cruises. As of this date, the Port is closed indefinitely with no commitment of opening this summer to any cruises. The State of Washington has also not agreed to these sailings. Well.Good luck Princess, you're going to need it...

Indefinitely means just that. The restriction could be lifted at any time.

@franktown; yes, I just looked at my credit card statement and it says Princess.  Confusing since I paid with my Costco Visa card!

Your Costco card is like any other Visa card. You could use it at a restaurant, big box electronics store, or super market. Your purchases have nothing to do with a Costco store.

UNBELIEVABLE - I had an Alaska cruise booked for May 2020, which I canceled early last month.  I just looked at it to see how many balcony cabins were available now since a lot of you have canceled too.  There were only about 10% of the balcony cabins booked, but the price has gone UP since the last time I checked.  Other cruise lines (like RCL, CEL and even Carnival) have canceled their Alaska cruises until July, but not Princess - they are even raising their prices on cruises that they know they will cancel.

Maybe they are trying ti discourage folks from booking those cruises.
