Avalon offered insurance for A$95 to be able to cancel for any reason. 30 days out and you got a refund and cancelling up to 24 hours before sailing you could rebook. October is cheaper than June so I have a better cabin (they say). My panic was my airfare which had to be cancelled 48 hours before flying to get a refund minus A$400 and as I had booked extra nights in Prague I couldn't wait until the last minute to cancel the cruise. I'm sure the Germans have everything well organised but after floods here, NSW, you wouldn't want to go anywhere near the flooded towns Very messy.

Likewise, but in my case I have changed the date and now go late October with fingers all crossed. Absolutely no communication from Avalon waterways. Agree with how very helpful this site is.

I cannot say how much I appreciate your posts. Such a wealth of information and so kind to share. You know so much more than my TA and the Web links are so useful. Think I will be cancelling unless Avalon beat me to it. Things may be vastly improved in 10 days but it doesn't look like things will be back to normal. I have the sort of insurance where I will end up with a credit, not a refund so be looking to reschedule. I live in Sydney, Australia, and believe or not, we are also having flooding in some areas!

Thanks for that. I'm also a bit concerned about what Regensburg and Passau will be like, that is, will the poor residents still be cleaning up the mess from the flooding.

Sailing from Nuremberg to Budapest after a couple of nights in Prague. Looks like Austria has closed the Austrian Danube to all river traffic but for how long?

Here's hoping. This is my first European river cruise.

Booked on Avalon View starting June 17. If this is going to turn into a bus tour does anyone know how soon Avalon will know and tell us? I can cancel and get a credit which might be preferable. Does anyone experienced in river cruising know how long the Danube takes to go down after a major flood?
