We sail Odyssey of the Seas and will get back to FLL at 6 AM on a Saturday.  There is a flight leaving FLL at 9:11 AM.  If we take all our luggage with us and line up to get off the ship at 6 AM, should we be OK?  The next direct flight to the SF Bay Area doesn't leave until 8:30 PM.

6am does not mean much.  In General usually if you walk off it will be at least 7am maybe a bit later.  If you get in line early and walk off you should be in a cab before 730 and to FLL by 7:45.  It would help if you are TSA precheck. I would say you can do it but not much pad.

  2. The root cause of the food cut backs is the RCCL Chairman who seems to be on a mission to cut every possible cost to make back all the money lost during covid.  As a stock holder this is good but as a cruiser this is bad. Royal as a large base of loyal cruisers but cutting things is not going over well. My thought is why not add $100 to the price of the cruise and keep the quality of the food up? I will say our last cruise was on the Beyond and the food was good but the portions very small so we just ordered extra. MY next Royal cruise is in 2 weeks on the Harmony and I will see how the new menu is, From what i Have seen I am not excited. Not enough choices.

  3. The Ferry from Red Hook runs at the top of the hour and the return trip at the bottom of the hour.  As of now we plan to get off ship by early and catch the 8am Ferry and get the. 1230 back.   We have done this before but like I said the ship excursion is not bad just short on time and eliminates 2 cab rides.

  4. I am on your cruise. We plan to go to Trunk. I have taken the on your own several times.

The advantage is you get ferry to Cruz Bay from near the ship. They drop you off and you take a short cab ride to Trunk. The Ferry will give you a pick-up time to be back at the ferry dock. The disadvantage is the listed time of the excursion is 4 hours but i have heard it is longer. The ferry ride is probably 45 min from Crown so you have about 2.5 hours on St. Johns and allowing for the cab you have about 2 hours on the beach. Maybe someone can comment who has been recently.

I believe we are going to get off the ship early and take a cab to Red Hook and take the Ferry to Cruz and Trunk. It should give us more time but you need to be careful on time. The on your own is more worry free.  I wish we could just take the excursion Ferry back.

  5. Looks like the timing of the Hurricane should not cause to many disruptions in cruises unless there is damage. Most ships sail out  Friday thru Monday and the Hurricane should be long gone by then.  The exception will probably be the Serenade if it expected in Tampa Thursday I would think it far out away from the Hurricane now and would be delayed.

  6. I think Jason has done what the board of directors at Royal wanted but making changes to create more profit and recover the loses from the Covid period.   That said at some point enough is enough and they to work to improve the cruise experience and keep travelers coming back. The pizza trial ballon to me was to see what passengers thought and clearly they spoke loud and clear.

  7. The MTD has been an issue with lines for a while. It was Celebrity and not Royal but last year we were on the Connie. Their solution was you checked in a the hostess stand and instead of waiting in line for 30 min they gave you a pager so you could hams out in the nearby bars or seating areas.  It was a fantastic idea in my opinion. We went to the Martini bar every night waiting for our seating to be ready.
