How did they compensate you? Did they refund part of your original sailing, or provide future travel credit?

The people on the ship received future cruise discounts.  I don't remember if they received any partial refund for their current or not.

For our 7.....oops, 4-day cruise the following week, you could cancel (not even show up but the preferred you let them know ahead of time) and receive 100% refund.   We didn't get any future cruise discounts but they pro-rated part back to us.  We could only make 2 stops instead of 3 and 1 of them changed (wasn't on our original itinerary.)  We got port fees back for 1 that we missed.

I argued a little bit because the pro-rate refund math did not work out as easy as $/day and give us back 3x that amount for the 3 days missed.  Didn't work that way apparently but we went anyway.......and had one of the best cruises ever.  Boat was only about half full so no lines!

  2. Saw one on the Freedom last year and I believe it was $150 entry and it was at the electronic table. About 6 or 7 people played and I watched the whole thing so I don't think it lasted much more than 1.5hrs.

The casino manager did something to the machine and away he went. I can't remember what the payout was but I remember thinking at the time it was kind of low considering what the house was taking. House always wins, right? The last 2 standing agreed to split the pot but played it out anyway.

  3. My apologies then if I misinterpreted. And we adhere to the rules for the same reason you do...photo ops. I'm business casual most days of the year, so I look forward to dressing up a little bit more than usual during these nights.

No apologies needed. It's a long thread with lots of fireworks.

I've been on 10 Carnival and 4 RC and this is the first thread I've jumped on about the dress code even though there have been hundreds or more.

I'm gonna go jump on a chair hog thread!

    Cheers!

  4. This post is ridiculous. You post what the code is and then give an opinion of why it is o.k. to oppose it (in your mind).

The only consequence is the risk of being turned away at the Maitre'd stand if you choose not to follow it.

Go back and read my posts on this topic. My family and I adhere to the rules for elegant night. We welcome the opportunity and use the photo ops that come with it.

The consequences if not following it are next to nothing. Some want it enforced because it is an important rule to them. Some think it is outdated or their $50 jeans are more fashionable in their mind so they don't have to adhere to it.

It's straightforward right there in black and white but I don't see a huge disregard for it anyway so I have never understood the need for a major crackdown on it.

  5. What rules do I have to adhere to and what are the consequences if I don't?

    Cruise Elegant Dress Code

    • Men: dress slacks, dress shirts, and we also suggest a sport coat; men may also wish to wear a suit and tie or tuxedo
    • Women: Cocktail dresses, pantsuits, elegant skirts and blouses; ladies may also wish to wear an evening gown
    • Not permitted: Jeans, men’s sleeveless shirts, shorts, tee-shirts, sportswear, gym or basketball shorts, baseball hats, flip-flops and bathing suit attire

Lots of rules in this world. Some are just more "important" to some than others.

  6. Alibaster, first off, very well said....by the same respect, therein lies my issue....One of my earlier posts i said, to me, dress shorts and a nice button down works. That is my personal preference....BUT, it is not Templars Ship, it Carnivals Ship....Their boat, their rules. I bolded your text above because i guess thats the part that is annoying and hard to understand. The mindset seems to be "I know the rules but i dont care, i want to do what i want to do and because i paid my money, i will do it". No, life doesnt work that way. That is a reasoning of an 8 yr old, not an adult

No disagreement here. It shouldn't even be up to Carnival to establish rules in the first place because getting all gussied up for dinner has always been part of the cruising experience.

    As Greggy_D said;

"It would be my guess that a lot of cruisers, especially new ones, have absolutely no idea about Elegant Night nor what it entails."

I'm just not going to let it bother me if isn't bothering me (armpit hair in my butter.)

Everyone knows what to wear on an interview, right?

  7. Really....so let me ask this....Guy rolls into the MDR in his tanktop and lo and behold he is seated at your table. He has been duly blessed with plenty of armpit hair and he likes to reach across the table for that breadbasket. It happens to be right over your water glass....we all good Dog? No effect on your cruise, right? :loudcry:

I get the frustration. I wish everyone would play by the rules but.......

    There's 2 kinds of dumb.

First, someone gets naked and barks at the moon.

Second, same thing except they do it in my living room.

First doesn't concern me much. Second one I'm forced to deal with.

It doesn't bother me as long as it ain't next to me.

If they are at my table, I'm saying something to "Dog". The Maitre'D isn't my first stop.

Good luck and just remember, people are different. As right as you feel about everyone needing to adhere to the dress code, Dog feels just as right in their mind dressing as he (or she can have hairy armpits too) darn well pleases.

  8. The DW, kids, and I get all prettied up for formal night. We don't get to do it often so we take the opportunity to do so. Only get to put the suit on for a few occasions and 1 of them isn't joyous.

I think it's respect. Respect for rules and others. If I didn't have the attire, I would hit the buffet. That's just me. But don't let it ruin your evening. People gonna do what they gonna do and all the fussing isn't going to make your cruise any better.

We tell our kids to respect the rules but question authority.......all while driving 70mph in a 60mph zone. We all have our set of rules we choose to follow.

  9. Hey Alibaster- do you know if this can be done in advance or do you have to wait until you board? We'll be travelling with my daughter, SIL & grandson... I can imagine that there will be times when my grandson wants to get off the ship with us instead of waiting for his parents (they tend to dawdle!). I'd like to make sure I set this up so any of the 4 adults can get off the ship with him if we want.

I don't believe so. My hot wife tried recently for our upcoming cruise and her PVP couldn't do it. We will just go the purser's desk, get extra keys, and have them set up that ability for either of us to deboard with our boy.

We even asked about the extra keys at check-in but they said that had to done onboard at the purser's. No biggie.

  10. I did it before but they were on the same floor and they were two 18 year olds . I am concerned because the other cabin is on another floor . Him maybe I could just ask for extra keys for the other two and not ask for a switch but just extra keys ?

Extra keys, that's what we've done. They were just keys though, not sail & sign (or sink & swim or whatever they are called.) Two people will be carrying an extra card around.

Myself and daughter would get the extra keys so she and I could get into either room. I assume you could ask so everyone had extras if you wanted?

  11. What we have done on the last few with my teenagers. Son and I in one room and my wife and daughter in the other. We usually get rooms close by. Once we get on board, go to the pursers desk and have extra keys made. Then they can sleep in whatever room you want.

Also be sure that you have them set up your profile so that you or your hubby can get any of the minors off/on the ship. First time we did this, my son was with my wife and daughter and I was a little ways behind them in the line to get off in port. They would not let my minor son off with my wife. He had to wait until I got up to him in the line. I see that as a good policy but you can have them set it up to let other adults accompany your minor kids off the boat.

What we do may be against their policy maybe? Oh well, if it is.

Edit: I read the policy k2 posted above. My kids were 17 & 15 but we booked online which left us less flexibility in setting all that up. I booked under my VIFP and my wife book with hers. It looks like 2 totally separate bookings. If you call, they can probably work all that out.

  12. Alright ladies and germs, post your love & hates of Carnival's food. Any food you find on the ship, post it here for others to see.

    Guy's burgers: Love

    Those breakfast burritos: Love

    Goat cheese pizza: Like

    Pepperoni pizza: Meh

Salmon & cream cheese bagel: Love

Chocolate melting cake: Meh (too much chocolate for me)

The half-eaten 3 week old PB&J found under the stateroom bed: Hate (bread was stale)

  13. We over packed our first couple but as others have mentioned, have it down to a science now. And we usually drive to the port.

When it is the family of 4, we all get a roller suitcase and a backpack and that is plenty of space and we can do the self-assist. We used to have huge rollers but you had to watch how much weight went in those or the wheels would break while dragging it (ask me how I know!) Now we stick with mid size rollers.

I try to plan ahead knowing what items can be worn more than once because you will only wear them a few hours at a time.

I used to take 2 suits for formal but now I take 1 and have different shirts and ties to go with it. I will wear casual pants to dinner more than once because we change after dinner. The button-up shirts I use with my suits will be worn again on casual night without the tie and with casual pants.....no one will know the difference and if they do, Ali McG don't care. I make sure all the casual pants I take are ones that go with my formal shoes (black) so I only have 1 pair of shoes for dinner. I take clothes to work out but I usually wear my work out clothes on an excursion or other activity then I will "finish it off" with a good sweaty jog, rinse it off in the shower, dry and into the stinky bag. Underwear.....same pair all week......NOT!

  14. Everyone posting here about Tequila Factory Store, please realize the store downtown and the one out on the transversal road toward the east side have 1 brand/distiller of tequila- Cava or Hacienda Antiqua. They may sell several types (there are 5 major tequila types-- pina, mezcal, blanco, reposado, anjeo--and about a 160 sub variaties) but all from one distillery.

And Don Viejo is imported to the US so not a "rare" find. At one time Tequileria's prices for better known brands were higher than in the US. And you could get similar or better deals at Covi, Mege, or Chedruai .

Hacienda Antigua is one we went to on a tour. Got to taste several and fell in love with the almond tequila....smooooooth!

Transversal Kilómetro 9.8, Cozumel Centro, 77600 San Miguel de Cozumel, Q.R., Mexico

We try looking for almond in other stores but have a hard time finding it. Impossible in the States so far.
