  1. come back and talk to me after you have pulled a couple of hundred folks out of the water

    no, that's not a booboo

    a couple of hundred ...

actually the numbers are actually 4 digits ... THOUSANDS as I recovered several hundred at a time . . . .

a life jacket IS NOT a replacement for normal swimming skills. It is an EMERGENCY device .... if you use a life jacket to replace everyday skills ... you no longer have access to a LIFESAVING device

    BUT

go your way ..... the worst that could happen is you get in trouble on the beach and rather than swim out and save you .. I decide, oh, they have a life jacket . . .

I'll be sure to stay out of the water in Melbourne and off this site. I can see that you can't have a different opinion here without getting flamed.

  2. As a lifeguard I am really really upset by this

you can't swim but feel qualified to give swimming advice

wear you mask and look at fish in water below your knees

But DON'T tell non swimmers there is nothing to worry about . . .

    PLEASE

Did you miss "lifejacket"? If a lifejacket is not safe enough, then non-swimmers should not be on a boat, tender or for that matter a cruise ship. I wasn't giving swimming advice, just saying that with a LIFEJACKET, non-swimmers can snorkel if they want.

  3. I don't swim, but I have snorkeled in Maui and Bora Bora. I wore a life jacket, and although I couldn't dive, I was able to put my face in the water with the mask and snorkel. It was amazing! I felt like I was in an aquarium. I'm so glad I was able to experience this. At no time was I afraid. Let her try it. She can always get out of the water and watch from the boat if she is uncomfortable.

  4. I agree. That's what made those cabins worth the outrageous price. Without the appropriate balcony furniture, I'm not sure the price is worth it. I did the Panama Canal in 6143, but it had the loungers then.

Keep checking your cruise to see when they release the corner FOVs for less than parties of 5. There are only 6 of these cabins. Now that would be the way to see the Panama Canal! We managed to snag one for the Norwegian fjords and it was fabulous!

Thanks. I'll check it out. We'll probably stay with 6143 anyway, because it was always so quiet back there. :)

  5. In April on the Infinity we did have the foot stools. We were in 6143.

That still does not makeup for loungers:(

I agree. We haven't been on M class for a while, but we used to book 6143, 6144, 6135, or 6136 for the big balconies. We have booked 6143 for a Panama Canal cruise, and are disappointed to hear about no loungers. The foot stools are a little better, though it's a waste of a nice balcony size to not have a lounger. We are thinking of switching to a regular balcony. C1 is much more expensive, and maybe not worth it.

  6. I am wondering what time of day it was when the louder music started? On our recent Century cruise things seemed to be quiet in the mornings then they would turn on music at about 8 am, then the DJ's would get going later in the day.

The only place I found the music too loud during the day was the cova cafe. We tried moving to the other side as far away from the speakers as possible, but them couldn't get any service as the wait staff seemed to think we weren't there for coffee since we were not sitting right next to the coffee bar (where the loud music was coming from). Once the DJ's showed up in the afternoon, we abandoned the cafe altogether.

My problem with the music being so loud as to drown out conversation in the cafe is that there is only ONE place on the ship that you can get specialty coffee. If a bar was too loud or the music was not to my taste I could go to another bar and get a drink and have a conversation, but with loud music in the cafe, it was a massive pain in the rear to have to find somewhere quiet and then trek back and fourth every 30 minutes for another round of coffees. It is also one thing to have a scheduled performance that lasts for a finite period and another altogether to just be piping in loud music from 8 am til 10 pm every day or having a DJ provide the same.

Yes, everyone who says if you don't like it go somewhere else has a valid point, and that is what we did every time the DJ's showed up, which unfortunately for us this meant no martini bar at night and no cafe in the afternoon. For me this really did stink because those are my two favorite venues. I would have preferred more of a mix of where/when that particular act was on (and for how long). OK, to be honest I would have preferred they missed the ship altogether, but we muddled through. I think that X needs to consider what alternatives the PAX might have for the venue where there is going to be music and maybe mix it up some so everyone gets a chance to enjoy different areas at different times of day.

Again, I agree that there needs to be a mix and I agree that if you don't like one thing you can try somewhere else but I also think that whether or not there is a good alternate needs to be considered i.e. somewhere else to get coffee or another open bar that is quieter etc.

I agree completely. Sadly, I think Celebrity is pushing us away. We are now planning to only take cruises that would not appeal to the younger crowd - 2 weeks or longer and not in the Caribbean.

  7. We just got off the Solstice on Apr 28, and it was very clean but looking tired. Some areas of carpet had seams fraying and deck furniture needs to be replaced, white lounge furniture in the Sky Lounge very stained. Lots of peeling and rusting on aft balconies. It needs a dry dock. That said, they were constantly cleaning and doing a good job of it.

  8. Hi all,

We want to ensure that everyone is enjoying the music on our ship, and we never want to have music that is too loud, or too low. We have looked into the issue, and we will make sure that the volume is corrected on all of our ships. This process may take a few days, but rest assured we have passed on your feedback and want to provide the best cruising experience for all of our guests.

    Thank you.

  9. I don't want it loud at the pool or the martini bar - in the nightclub, enclosed, where the partiers want to go and dance and not converse, I think would be the only place for booming loud.

I agree. The only place where loud music should be is in an enclosed space where it would not bother other cruisers.

This option was not on the poll, so I didn't vote.

  10. It's been a few years ago but we had a great day in the Bay of Islands when visiting via a Holland America cruise. First we hiked all along the coastal trail of the Waitangi Treaty Grounds, then took the shuttle bus to Paihia and then a ferry to Russell. It was a fantastic day - see photos and more details in our blog post http://www.travelingwiththejones.com/2010/09/22/destination-discovery-bay-of-islands-new-zealand/

Sounds like a wonderful day! Love the pictures. The fish and chips look mouth watering. How long did it take to hike the coastal trail of Waitangi?

  11. Pacific coast is on my bucket list also but I have been told hat this will not be included in the 2015 calendar. Very disappointed

I agree. We were hoping to book a Pacific coast cruise in 2015 also. We would like to stay with Celebrity, but will probably have to consider another cruise line.

  12. We, like a lot of others, are one cruise away from top status (Elite) The top tier has now been cruelly snatched from our grasp just as the contents of the golden goblet was about to touch our offered lips. The free bagwash will lay unattended in our cabin while the heady realms of parading up and down just before Captains Cocktails (Free) will now be the preserve of the suite only uber cruisers as we mere mortals look on with lowered eyes and tugged forelocks as they sashay by.

Hah hah, just a bit of fun, We cruise with Celebrity because we like their style and their ships, the Captains club was ok as it went but never a deal breaker, if a cruise came up on another line the Captains Club progress would not deter us, well certainly not now. So we will carry on Cruising and not be weighed down by thinking, if only we had gone with Celebrity and got elevated in the Caps club we could have got a half bag of washing done free.

Love your sense of humor! When it comes down to it, we sail Celebrity because we like the line, the perks are extra.

  13.

Thanks so much for the info. We were going to take a bus, but I think we'll walk.

  14. This is not a Celebrity-specific secret, but it is a great tip.

We take a couple of bags of the mini-chocolate bars (Milky Way, Snickers, etc.) on each trip.

When we have someone bring something to our room, we wrap a dollar around one of those.

The crew loves them. The first time you hand it to them, they look puzzled at the lumpy dollar, but when they open it, they say, "Oh! Chocolate!"

You get amazing service from then on out. We have had extra canapes at night brought to us before dinner, extra strawberries, cookies with the decaff coffee we order at night and so on.

You also get service with a smile after that, too. Our steward said that they don't often have access to such things and that it was really nice to have it.

Great idea! Who doesn't love chocolate?

  15. Diane,

We have friends joining us from Edinburgh too, small world. We all meet on a trans atlantic last Dec. On the Connie. My parents do the cat sitting for us. Can't imagine sitting at home while the other half enjoys the world!

We have been cruising since 1987. Our first was on the Norway, the old SS France after NCL bought her. I have a bot of claustrophobia so when Bob told me we were going on a cruise I freaked out. We had a tiny cabin down in steerage with bunk beds. I fell in love woth cruising and booked the next one for the following year a 21 day cruise from Athens to Rio. We do mostly long stuff now. This trip will be 40 days with 12 on the Solstice from Auckland to Sydney then 8 days in Sydney then this cruise plus all of the traveling a a couple of days in Auckland. Too much to think about! Thankfully Bob is really organized and keeps it all together for us.

Years ago we meet a couple on a cruise that had a great outlook on cruising. For years when they were younger, they were in their late 70's when we meet them, they would fly to a country then get on a bus go to the end of the line and explore. Even as they got older and that kind of travelling became a bit too difficult they still did the same thing but on a cruise in each port they would get off, rain or shine, hop on a bus or just walk and explore on their own just trying to soak up a little of each place no particular goal in mind, no need to see everything but enjoying all the small little things to be found along the way. We have adopted that outlook and travel just to see what life is like else where in the world. Not needing to see everything in day but enjoying the little bits here and there. A beautiful park, the local markets, unique alleys and back roads. Sometimes the best plan is no plan.

Wow! What a wonderful way to travel!
