  1. We were on a 12 night British Isles cruise on the Caribbean Princess last summer and had anytime dining. The 2 tops we had were like the ones in the Star Princess picture. There may have been 2 top bench seating but we were never directed to that section (thank goodness because I hate those tables).

Happy to see CB has some of the same set up as the Star. We booked a year in advance and hope to get something like what we had on the Star. If not oh well just because we are close to folks doesn't mean we aren't alone (sort of). This way if we make other plans or are a couple minutes late we are not holding others at the table up. We still try to let our waiter know ( If we do) when we are not coming. That way he doesn't have our drinks sitting there for us :).

Now just keeping my fingers crossed for next month. We are in second seating which is new to us.

  2. Their (Komen) debacle with Planned Parenthood lost my support. We used to walk every cruise. Now I don't participate and send my (supporting breast cancer) check elsewhere.

This was a sticky subject for us, but decided to continue to walk to keep the awareness factor in the open. We also walk for our locale hospital which supports Cancer patients with wigs, rides for treatment, a hand to hold etc. no research but still walk. Not everything for Cancer has to do with finding a cure.

Wish I could walk in a re-lay or 3 day but I still support them. Used to do these but since chemo can no longer go the distance. So you see On Deck for a Cure is perfect for me. Just my thoughts.

  3. I also have heard about how the money is used for other items from Komen. However I still walk because I think of as keeping the issue in the open. When my first 2 Aunts died from Breast Cancer it was whispered about. Now it's an open topic when somebody (or yourself) has the misfortune to have to deal with it. I hope to someday be able to think "oh how far we have come". I will continue to walk each time. However if you are listening Princess the "Walk for a Cause" sounds really good to some folk's.

  4. Ocean Princess is that the same size as Pacific? Where did they walk? We are hoping they have this on our July trip. I have always walked but, although Mike has always donated he didn't get out of bed until I was in treatment when we did a TA Venice to Fla. now he walks each time. I have to say the crew is always great but on the Ruby in 2011 were the best. Even the Captain made time to come and start us off. Some times we have had as few as 8 and as many as 40. I think it's a great cause and brings awareness to this often serious illness.

Nice to hear your Mom is in remission. Wonderful to see so many folk's taking time for this as somebody else said we all are affected one way or another from Cancer. Family, friend, co-worker not many people can say they are untouched.

  5. Hi Again Folk's,

Checking the pools on the Pacific Princess and see just the 1 main pool (which is fine) and the spa pool (no hot tubs :( here) can we use the spa pool on this ship or do we need to book the Sanctuary? I expect this to be smaller than say the Golden, but not sure if we can go there before (if eating late) or after dinner. We enjoy all the other ships in the early evening for a quiet swim and just curious.

    Thanks as always, Laura

  6. Oh, man! I am so jealous! At least they came to me - they wouldn't even eat out of my DH's hand.

I'm jealous also. We aren't going all the way up this year but will add this for next time. We have not seen one of my favorite birds yet. Though we went to Iceland and the coast of Maine (breeding ground) plus Alaska of course and not once have I seen them :(. We seem to be just off by a week each time. Oh well good reason to travel north again.

  7. Just got off Pacific Princess last week. There is a sofa on oceanview and inside cabins too. The lounge on Deck 10 forward, Pacific Lounge, is a great place to read with 180 degree forward views. Also nice when it's cold outside on an Alaskan cruise to just relax and look at the ocean.

Thanks that will give us two places to go in the AM on sea days. Can't wait to go to the library also. We like to leave the room so the steward can do his/her thing.

  8. Also, a gentle request to use a more descriptive subject line. "I'm confused" doesn't tell us anything about WHAT your question is, only your state of mind. "Pacific Princess balcony question" might help those who are familiar with the ship to chime in easier.

Thanks I caught it But it posted twice. Like I said still not the best with a computer.

  9. In 2009 we sailed the Pacific Princess in cabin 7090 (not adjoining). There was a small sofa. Understand your concern that the mini suites are under the Panorama Deck ("Lido"). For our next Pacific Princess cruise we have mini suite 8002 which is under the Internet Cafe. Princess regulars have reported this to be a quiet location.

    Enjoy your cruise!

Thank you for your response. We had a mini to start 8065, but I'm a light sleeper when I sleep. We talked it over because I am up around 4 any how so didn't think setting up in the buffet would matter. We decided to try a balcony this time. Think it should be great either way because I'm of the mind "no such thing as a bad cruise" :D. Never did anything with this short a notice though a little nervous.

Have a great cruise when you go.

  10. Right. I believe the only cabins without a small sofa are adjoining where there's room for only a chair, not a sofa, due to the door. Even the oceanview cabins have a small sofa. Don't know about insides.

I have not heard of the sofa's being taken out of the balcony cabins. But there are balcony cabins that are adjoining cabins and in that case because of the door those cabins might not have a sofa but could be replaced with a chair. Looking at your cabin number it is not adjoining.

How can I tell if it's an adjoining cabin? Still learning to navigate these sites. This will be great I roam to relax in the afternoon, Mike reads. True not much room to roam this trip, but I will find that out soon.

    Thanks again, Laura

  11. Thank you everybody just 42 days to go and I can take this off my list to be checked out. Mike loves to read in the cabin in the afternoons at sea we go to Sky Walker Lounge in the AM when at sea to give the room steward time.

This ship appears to be a beautiful ship can't wait to curl up in the library in AM this trip.

    Thanks again, Laura

  12. Hi Folk's,

I just showed my husband how beautiful the Pacific Princess is, though alot smaller. Oh dear no sofa in a balcony cabin? I read about a sofa being replaced in a balcony cabin, but the pictures on you tube show only a chair. We are in cabin 7092 in July and I told my husband he would have a small 2 cusion sofa. We generally have mini's but was a little concerned with all public areas over these on this ship. We were not going on a cruise this year but got a good deal so (arm twisted :)) we changed our plans.

I'm so confused now should I try to change, everything is all paid for or will he have a place to sit and read in the early afternoons at sea?

As always thanks to everybody for your input, Laura

  14. Does anybody know about the Pacific having lunch in the MDR? We generally get something light at the buffet when we skip breakfast. But as we booked so late we are waitlisted for first seating so will want to eat lunch on E day. To have a sit down lunch 12:30-1:00 would be perfect. I will miss the IC (for lunches) but finally on a small ship, and found out I can still get my afternoon Latte :).

  15. Thanks for this great list! I have had nice stays at Sutton Place' date=' in past years.

As mentioned earlier, the Westin Bayshore is nice.

As others have said, the Pan Pacific is hard to resist:)[/quote']

Last time we stayed at the Sheraton on the Wall Centre, Princess did our boarding there and after a tour through the hotel we just walked onto the ship. This time we are in the Fairmont it looks nice and only 1 night before and 1 after. Like Princess to do this because we do the transfers also.

Sounds like the Pan Pacific would be nice too. Well maybe next time :).

  16. Thank you folk's for the input. I know it is far away, but part of the fun is in the planning for me :).

I found several pictures of both E730 & E731 a few of these had lounge chairs as well as 2 chairs at the little table. I have e-mail our TA to check if E-731 is available for this trip. Europe in the spring can be wet so really want to be in this area with the covered balcony and we have 6 sea days to enjoy it.

Thanks again have a great day.

  17. Love Princess for a more traditional cruise and it is great for a special trip (or any trip for me). We like a peaceful vacation most times and Princess is that.

That said if you choose NCL which we also liked for a free style cruise. Try for a suite, it was our first and is all they said it was and more. We had a suite twice last year on NCL and if they go where we want to go at the right time of year we will do it again.

Otherwise we will stay in our mini on Princess.

As for cost if it's a factor, our Deluxe Owners Suite on the Gem was a little less for 7 days than a week on any of our Princess trips. Hard to compare as with Princess it is generally longer trips.

We loved the canal cruise in 2001, never did the partial but a friend did on Princess a few years ago for her 50th. birthday and raved about it.

Have a great time regardless of which line you choose.

Princess= Quiet, traditional, but not boring for us.

NCL= Free style, louder, family's fun for us.

  18. The mini suites on the Emerald deck are fully covered. It is the mini suites on the Dolphin deck that are uncovered. If you are on the sailing on the 28th we will be across the hall from you in E723.

Please be sure and post after your trips. We are in E723 next year can't wait. We loved this cabin on another Princess ship really like the covered balcony.

  19. I tried to find more information but am not to good at the computer stuff. Just learned how to post a short time ago, or it feels that way. At any rate I'm lost and need help.

Booked E723 again this time on CB. The layout appears to be the same as Golden and on our Hawaii trip we had this cabin and loved it. We discovered Emerald deck through CC and love the covered balcony. That said heard port side is very noisy due to the bandstand below the cabins in the back of the ship. My question is what about starboard side last mini E731. I understand it has an extended balcony and would also like to know if they would have a lounger on this balcony. Checked out you tube and found E730 which is where I heard about the noise.

E723 on Golden had some noise from the bass but not really noisy and only a couple of times E731 is closer to the bandstand but not right above it.

    Thanks for any input

  20. I have not sailed X, but have sailed on NCL. If you can swing it, try to book a suite. NCL has amazing suite perks. Also, you may want to consider their Ultimate Dining Package, as the food in the MDR is a bit hit and miss, more miss really.

I totally agree we treated ourselves to our first suite last May on the Gem out of NYC was great. Had such a wonderful experience we took our Aunt and Grandson to Bermuda out of Boston in the family suite service was great they had such a good time. We had heard about the suite life on NCL and was glad to have tried it. Plan to take our boys (22 & 26) with our daughter-in-law & grandson in 2016 as NCL has home port advantage. They will love the free style cruising.

I still love my Princess when it's just the two of us. We like our alone time.
