  1. I have seen folks on here recommending Junkanoo Beach. When my son and his girlfriend walked there, they reported it was pretty dirty. They said there was a lot of broken glass on the beach and a good bit of trash. I already understand that it is a public beach. We are not expecting pristine conditions, just not horrible ones. My son visited in October 2013, so it has been awhile. Seeking first hand accounts of the current status of the beach. Trying to decide if it is worth walking to or if perhaps we should just pay for an excursion. Looking for any helpful advice. Thank you.

  2. I have a solution. All I want is 30 minutes in the chair. How about a seat-filler line? Rather than leaving your towel, leave me in your chair instead. I think there are more of us than you think. Put it on the app. As it is, I am shut out of using spaces like the Solarium on Anthem during the day because I'm just not going to take part in the stress of it all.

    Now there's an idea! :D

Is there an app for that?

  3. If we pre-purchase the drink package, and maybe, First Night Done Right, we generally don't spend much, if any more. We have cruised enough that we do not need any more souvenirs and don't spend much time in the casinos. I do put a small amount of cash on our account and just close it out the night before we disembark.

  4. As a cruiser on both Carnival and RCI I do not agree 100% with your post. I think RCI has the best, crispiest fries. The pizza is about the same. I will agree that, Guy's Burgers are better though than the complimentary burgers on RCI. We love the Park Cafe on RCI. I also do think the buffet is better on RCI with a larger selection. We have not tried the Dog House yet but, DH is looking forward to it on Oasis this fall. Either way, I think you will be able to find things to eat you enjoy.

  5. I put a large black garbage bag on the bottom of the suitcase before I start packing. it goes up the sides and it gives you two layers of plastic. When I am finished packing I put another black garbage bag on top and tuck the side down. All my clothes are protected. While our suitcase was wet, our clothes stayed dry.

    Great tip!

  6. From what I remember from past experiences, the servers at JR would rather have been doing ANYthing else besides doing that little dance. They all had humiliated and exasperated looks on their faces and clearly were NOT enjoying it. Maybe there are some who think it's fun, but most of those that I recall really were not into it at all. Maybe that's why they have pretty much discontinued the dancing.

I thought about this while we were there so I asked one of the servers about it. She said she thought it was fun so perhaps not all crew feel the same way.

  7. When we sailed on Freedom of the Seas the crew at Johnny Rockets sang/danced when a certain song was played on the juke box. Johnny Be Good maybe? We thought it was fun and everyone seemed to really enjoy it. We ate at JR on Indy of the Seas and could not have had a more different experience. The waiter did not have coins for the juke box, nor did it even work. When asked about the dancing we were told, "We don't do that anymore". Overall, it wasn't much fun. DH disappointed when the apple pie he had been craving arrived. It was tiny and just not very good. Is every ship different or is the dancing a thing of the past now? I don't want to mention it to family before our next cruise in case there is no longer entertainment. If it makes a difference we are sailing aboard the Oasis next.

  8. I will admit I have been suckered in by the Havana area and their dedicated pool area, and the excellent prices!

So we're in our 40's but we are not party people- we seek out quiet reading spaces on sea days (which is why that Havana aft pool area is so enticing - we HATE fighting for chaise loungers).

    Important to us:

-Good dining (don't mind paying additional for specialty restaurants)

    -Good service

-Good ports (we get off the ship every time!)

-Variety of bars and a good looking ship interior

    -Casino (bonus if it's non-smoking)

-Entertainment in the evening - preferably live music

    What we dislike:

    -Rowdy, drunken crowds

-Loud music piped in public places (it makes the pool decks unusable on a lot of ships!)

    -Lines and crowds

    -Fighting for deck chairs

-Lack of quiet space to relax and read

So...that being said, is a Havana room on Carnival Vista a good choice? (We will go in January, not during a high-kid travel time.)

I just have always pictured Carnival as this rowdy ship with tons of partiers...give me your thoughts, and thank you!

There were things that we enjoyed about the Vista and things we did not. The food in the dining room/lido deck in our opinion, was about the same as on RC. We did however really like the Guy's Burgers & Bluelguana Cantina breakfast burritos. The entertainment on RC is better to us. The theatre on the Vista has some issues which if you search on here you will find. If you are spa folks, the Vista's is lacking compared to others such as the Dream. We would cruise on the Vista again but, only if we had a Havana cabin. Those are worth the cost to me for the private pool area. I doubt you will have to fight for a lounger in there. January after school resumes should not be a rowdy time. I have seen misbehaved guests on both lines but, nothing too extreme. We have dined in Bonsai Sushi and the steakhouse. Both were good. In the end, any cruise is a good cruise to us. Enjoy your trip!

  9. We booked our upcoming cruise with early saver rate. I was doing a mock booking to check for price drops. I was excited to find that our rate has dropped $25 per person.

However, once I got to the final total, the taxes and port fees had increased so much that the cruise actually now costs more if I try and claim the price reduction!

Quite frustrated right now. Thanks for letting me vent.

This happened to me as well. I checked the prices and our cruise had dropped. I also did a mock booking and the total price was higher than we originally paid! Took me a while to figure out that the taxes/port fees had increased.

  10. "People who WANT to complain?" I believe differing opinions are what CC is based upon. It is not complaining when one has sailed quite a bit and sees differences that impact the space and flow of a ship and comments upon those differences. Some of the changes CCL made , such as cramming in more cabins on a ship the same size as the other Conquest class ships, closing in a beautiful atrium, removing stationary seating with a view in the theatre to replace it with a multi functional space because they removed other public venues is NOT complaining, but instead relating the FACTS. If you like it, go for it, no one is stopping you....but those of us who prefer a less crowded flow and public spaces that are useful are free to express our opinions and choose accordingly as well.

Well said! I could not agree with you more.
