Just booked a balcony on 1/28 for 2/13 on Splendor....so 17 days out.
Comes in about the same for a previous cruise a few years ago.

My sister and I just booked this cruise last night for the 2/13 sailing. We've cruised before but this will be our first Carnival.
I was looking for a recent review and this hits the spot!! Thank you....
Counting down the days left in the cold!!!

One of my favorite...7 night to Bermuda.!!
Back in the days when they still had the passenger lists..
-
My mom's visit to the infirmary on Explorer was $257.00 for about six minutes!!
-
I took a bottle of vodka and Rose's Lime Juice on in my carry on. No problem. (This was on Explorer on 9/06 and 10/06..so no flying)!!
BIL took 2 bottles of Black Sambuca on in his carryon. No problem with his either.
I would try to find the plastic bottles when flying and still put them is some kind of zip loc..bag.
Happy smuggling!!!!!!!

The beers I listed were the only beers in the menu although I did see some others on the ship...Red Stripe was one and some other dark ale types that I never heard of...sorry, I only drink Coor's Light!!!!
There are no more sale buckets of beer either...a bucket of 6 was still $24.18, although cash tips throughout the cruise provided a good amount of freebies!!!
Not cheap, I agree....A 30 pack here in NJ costs $17.99!!!

New prices went into effect on Explorer 10/20 sailing and the bartender at the pool gave us a menu: I have it here if anyone wants other prices..These are beer prices with the 15% gratuity:
Coor's Light, Miller Lite, O'Doul's....$4.03
Bud & Bud Lite..16oz aluminum bottle...$4.89
Heineke, Amstel Light, Corona........$4.89
Guiness Pub Draught.......$5.69
Bass Ale.....$5.18
Fosters 25.4oz Oil Can.... $6.84
Draft....16 oz Domestic: $4.03
Imported: $4.89
Draft....20 oz Domestic: $4.60
Imported: $5.46
We were told that these are the new prices for all the Voyager Class ships.

We just got back yesterday. The Champagne Card is alive and well but you won't see it advertised.
Ask Andre (the bartender) for one. They are $43.13 and include 10 champagne cocktails..
I have the card here since I didn't use the last cocktail...no loss since we bought 3 cards over 9 days, but I am copying this from the card for those who are interested...
(Champagne Cocktail Package..valid only in the champagne bar includes:
C= Champagne
Bellini....C, peach liquor and Creme deCassis
St. Moritz..C, apricot brandy, gin and orange juice
Kir Royale..C, and Creme de Cassis
London Special...C, Augustura bitters and sugar
How's everybody...C and apple schnapps
Make my day..C and midori
Caribbean Cassanova...C, creme de banana and OJ
Good and plenty..C and apricot brandy
Love Boat...C and peach schnapps
Mimosa..C and OJ
There is a ten spot circle that gets punched when you buy each drink and you can use it all at once or over the course of the cruise.
If sold separately, each cocktail is $7.95 so buying the card makes them roughly half price. We did tip extra when buying the cards ($10 on each card) and still considered the package a great bargain...Tip that little bit extra cash and see how many times your card doesn't get punched!! -
I have no doubt that you definitely know what you are talking about!!
But ultimitely, doesn't the ships water does contain a higher amount of salt?? I was told that for years. It's safe and it's fine to drink but has a higher sodium content because of all the processing...
I guess that most of us don't worry about the technical aspects of desalination..we just want to know why we can't wear our shoes!!!
Thanks.....

For the most part, all water on a cruise contains salt...(desalinization does remove some salt but not all)...the foods are cooked in the water, coffee, juices..everything you eat will basically have a higher salt content..Yes, even a cup of coffee or tea..(made with the ship's water)..salads are washed with it..etc..
Ever notice how the ice melts quickly in your cabin?? That's because it has a high salt content. (Compare it to throwing rock salt on your driveway to melt the ice in winter...see how fast the ice melts)
Some people retain water more than others which causes the swelling. Some have no problem. Airline foods are loaded with salt which does cause swelling in some..and high altitude can also cause swelling. Combine flying with a cruise and BINGO...swollen ankles and feet!!!
Usually, when getting back to a "normal" setting at home, the swelling will disappear after a day or two.
Our friends have a desalinization plant in the Caribbean, so I've known this for some time..(they have a medical background also)..
For the most part, if you normally retain water, you will see some swelling.
The salt air has nothing to do with it..bottled water, activity and not overeating will help reduce swelling..(so I was told!!)
Sometimes I swell, sometimes I don't!!!

Well, that's kind of like saying, "why would anyone spend $5000. pp for a suite on a cruise when they can stay in a nice, inside cabin, eat at the same restaurants and enjoy the same activities and spend $600. pp?
There's no wrong or right, it's just preferences.
No, designer bags are not just about a label inside a bag. The quality of the leather, the metals, the linings, the design, the finesse and the company behind the product are all differences.
A few months ago I saw some handbags from a company who's name I didn't recognize. (still can't remember - Vlaaxo or something). I was drawn to the quality of these bags - the quality of the leather and construction and attention to detail in terms of design and balance got me crazy. I thought, I *have* to have one of these bags. It was timeless elegance and you could see it was a very expensive bag, but one that would last for over 30 years and the style was classic. I asked the price and thought I'd fall over when the salesman calmly told me $3500. Well, I didn't buy it, but Wow! , it was easy to see that this bag just screamed "quality, style, elegance". But hey, it's less than the Hermes Birkin Bag! :)
Truth is, if you can't see the difference you're lucky. I wish I couldn't! :D
Jane,
I always stay in a suite/balcony on a cruise and YES, people tell me that I am crazy that I pay all that extra $$ for it. Of course I don't think twice about it, it 's just what I do!! I would stay home before I would cruise in an inside cabin.
But I sware I had no idea that some designer handbags cost that much!!! I'm still in shock....I just can't imagine leather, linings, etc being that magnificent to warrant the price. I'd be afraid to put anything in the bag!!
Thankfully, I'm not into handbags!!
Shoes are another story....I would pay the price of a cruise for a warranty on a good, comfortable pair of timeless black dress shoes...medium heel, open or closed toe...size 9 1/2...that don't hurt after 2 hours!
-
I could never imagine spending $1500 or more on a handbag..OMG!!!
I can only ask why???
What is the difference between a bag that is similiar in style but might be $100. Is it just for the designer name??
Does everyone change handbags every day?

The only waiter I ever remember by name was on my first cruise in '92... Monarch of the Seas...( a year old at the time) Izzy from Turkey. The first night after dinner I put my lipstick on...every night he came over after dinner and insisted that he put my lipstick on for me...I have pictures of him doing it on the last night....
Another time was on Adventure of the seas in '03...Don't remember his name but he was so sweet..we were his last sailing and he was going home to Turkey..Told us his wife had just had a baby girl and it would take him about 20 hours to get home when he left San Juan. We all bought gifts for his wife and baby and gave them to him on our last night at dinner...

Thanks again for the detailed review.
I agree that the itinerary is not exciting and I've done it before so I'm looking forward to exploring the ship as a first time Carnival cruiser....2/13.
My sister and I will post our opinions (AKA..review) when we get back.
12 more days in the cold......
