  1. I think it depends what is important to you. I myself decided on RS 1612 on the Solstice for Alaska. Here are my reasons.

    1. Unlimited internet. I need to keep in contact with the kids.

    2. Free speciality dinning.

    3. Premium drink package.

    4. Early Embark and disembark.

    5. Large balcony. (not sure about hot tube use for Alaska).

    6. Dinning table in room.

    7. Free water soda and beer stocked in refrigerator.

    8. Trying the new speciality dinning room for suite guess.

But mainly, this is a special trip for my husband and I. It's the first vacation without kids in almost 18 years. I wanted it to be special.

  2. I understand we can have the cooler stocked with water, soda, and beer, and this comes with the price of the room. So what I'm asking is, what kind of beer can we expect. I have seen a lot about specialty drinks, but my husband is a beer snob. Are there craft beers on board, and if so what kind. I don't care about soda...we don't drink it, but what kind of water is provided. This is our first cruise with Celebrity. Also a little of main topic, but besides the buffet, where can you get lunch? Thank

  3. We were thinking of trying out the suite life next year and saw via the Celebrity brochure book they put out that the perks for Royal and Above are

Premium drink package, wireless internet and a few other things.

I am confused now because when I went to book it it gives me (something like the 1-2-3 promo) and says classic drink package.

So, I am wondering do you really get all the perks as described in the brochure or do they give you less because maybe you saved $100 on the regular suite price? I want to be assured if paying so much for a royal suite that they are still giving all the perks as described. Thanks in advance for any help. I have a 24 hour hold :-)

For Royal, Penthouse, and Reflection suites you get premium bev, Internet, mini bar with free soda, water, and beer, all speciality dinning, new suite restaurant, and free tips. Hope this helps.

  4. My husband and I have booked the Royal suite on Solstice for Alaska. Any info you can give would be great. It I'll be my first on Celebrity, so I'm excited to hear all about it. If I may ask, what room number are you?

  5. In Luminae, do they ask if you would like to be seated by yourself or with others? Since I'm with my spouse usually 24/7, it's nice to be seated with others.

Oh, not me. This will be the first trip without kids in laws or anyone else. My husband and I have not been on a trip by ourselves sense our honeymoon. I want to be at a table for two. I just want it to be us for romantic dinners. It's one of the reasons I booked a Royal suite. Can't wait to try the new SR. On the Solstice.

  6. As a mother of a special needs child, here is my two cents. These children may have full control of there bowels. My daughter needs help in a pool, but has no problem telling me when she has to go, and can hold it until we get to a bathroom. She may need help when finished, but she can hold it. I'm not saying that it was that way with these kids. But you could have asked (privately of course) one of the attendants or parent if you were wondering.

  7. To answer questions: The formal nights were more casual than I have experienced in the past. I saw a few gowns and one tux. As PP said, the cruise overall was definitely more on the casual end.

I put the American cash on there because our guide on the Duck Tour in Ketchikan said he is always asked multiple times a season what currency is accepted up there ???? So, evidently some people don't realize it is a US state, or just aren't thinking?

As PP said, we had gorgeous weather for this trip. Not a drop of rain. Fog and clouds in Ketchikan, but that was the worst of it. We took the train in Skagway, which was a nice experience. For the price, I would not do it again, but it was very relaxing, and everyone in our party enjoyed it. Speaking of Skagway, if you have kids age 7 and under, there is an amazing public park just off 6th and Broadway. We were directed there by a very nice shopkeeper when a diaper emergency presented itself. They said there would be changing tables there, and they were correct! Very clean restrooms, and the only changing tables we saw in town. The park was wonderful for our two year old to burn off some energy after sitting on the train. It has the crushed rubber mulch, lots of slides and swings. Definitely check it out if you have a little one. Oh, and it is free!

Overall, we loved our cruise and would definitely sail Celebrity again. The ship was beautiful. I thought the Oceanview Cafe had the best buffet food we have had at sea. I mean, there was roast duck on the buffet...and it was good! The buffet did get very crowded, especially on sea days, but I think this was mainly due to people sitting and watching scenery, not necessarily eating. Tables were always promptly cleared, so I am not sure what, if anything, Celebrity could do to improve this, short of adding table space.

Our other complaint was our room 9298. Every day, multiple times a day, there was a loud, repetitive banging noise, usually accompanied by a saw or drill type noise. Loud enough that it could be heard outside the room and on the balcony. When we first heard it in the afternoon, we thought it was maintenance. Annoying, but we could live with it. Then it kept us from sleeping. We called guest services three times about the issue over the course of the cruise, but it did not happen when the manager was present. Our cabin steward heard it and told us she had heard it was something with the pipes, but it was never resolved. We did see maintenance walking around our deck looking perplexed. The room itself was wonderful otherwise. I would hesitate to book this area again, but since I have not read about a similar experience, maybe it was just a one-off problem.

The staff on board was wonderful, incredibly polite and accommodating. The only times we felt service was slow was when a venue was obviously busy, and it was evident that waiters were rushing to serve as fast as they could.

Oh, and disembarkation in Seattle was a breeze! We did have 200 passengers disembark in Victoria, which seemed like a large number, probably due to the fact that we left from a Canadian port. I think from the time we walked down the gangway to the time we were on the Celebrity airport shuttle was 20 minutes, honestly. Very quick and efficient. Our number was called just before 8:30, so I think we may have missed the rush earlier in the morning.

If people are interested, I can post dailies, as I kept them all. I just have to get them scanned.

Celebrity has a Shuttle in Seattle to take you to the airport? Where do I sign up for that?

  8. I had a Royal Suite - but this was April 4 cruise. I suspect these issues are continuing to be resolved (although the reported loss of Bulgari is a disappointment - I have 2 more Royal Suites booked). Thanks.

The suite benefits did not go into effect until April 15, according to the web site .They did a slow roll out a little before for the SDR.

  9. On the first Reflection cruise there was no mention, or when asked, knowledge, of unlimited internet. I got my Elite Plus (which I separately qualify for) minutes and that's it. I didn't push it since I was more interested in Luminae hours, no ability to order left side of menu, and mini bar.

I'm not sure what suite you had, but the free internet is for Royal, Penthouse, and Reflection only. It's one of the reasons that I wanted a Royal suite. That and space.

  10. Absolutely untrue! Sierra Nevada is a privately owned brewery located in our home town of Chico, CA. Ken Grossman, the founder, is still the sole owner of Sierra Nevada. Until last year all Sierra Nevada beer was produced in Chico. They have just opened a second brewery in Ashville, NC.

Hello fellow Chico neighbor. You are so right. Ken Grossman is sole owner, sense he bought out his partner.

  12. I decided on Royal for Alaska, because it comes with the premium beverage package, free internet, free speciality dinning, and a few extras. I like the larger balcony, but mainly I want everything that comes with the room. Might it be a little more if I paid at the end, I don't know. But I don't want to pay anything at the end of my trip. And I can make payments.

  13. I'm confused, this is what I found on the Celebrity web site. That's why I thought we could have dinner in our room, at least once.

    Royal Suite

When you stay in a Royal Suite, you'll enjoy the luxury of European-style butler service. This includes assistance with unpacking and packing, in-suite lunch and dinner service, afternoon tea, evening hors d'oeuvres and complimentary in-suite espresso and cappuccino from Café al Bacio. Enjoy a separate living room and dining area and a veranda with whirlpool and luxurious lounge seating.
