  1. She isn't going to cancel them since they booked first (and shouldn't--I'd feel badly). My mom and her husband will probably stay back, as sadly, she can't do 7 hours of sitting. If we were private, we could plan to drop her back halfway through or something. We'll either book just the 4 of us for now, and I'll see if I can make some requests. Or we can do a blue flag tour that is shorter.

I'd still reach out to her- it's not 7 hours- 6 with a picnic lunch with a bit of walking- let her know what your family can/ can't do - she'll either work it out - or tell you she can't- never hurts to ask- hope it works out for you- If it were me ( Heidi) i'd try to make it work for everyone

  2. She already had 2 booked for the second day of our trip (and isn't available on the first). So we can't make it a private tour. There are 4 in our group for sure, and there would be 6 if my mom is able to handle that much sitting due to her chronic pain issues. I wonder if I still might be able to make some small requests, even with another couple also on the tour.

It doesn't hurt to ask- 6 of you- let her know what you'd like to do ( for 6 )- she may reach out to the other 2 ( or cancel them/ ask if they are ok with what you want. If I operated a tour company and had 6 guaranteed with a specific itinerary vs 2 with my usual and was looking at losing one vs the other- guess which one I'd choose- 6 x $100 or 2 x $100 and hope I can fill the other seats

  3. For those who have done the tour, did you feel like there was a large focus on flora/fauna? Did you feel you saw enough of St. George? (I would like to see the Unfinished Church and the sea glass beach that is in the area.) Also, was there time to visit a fort? Trying to decide if this tour will hold my teen boys' interests. They will enjoy climbing the lighthouse and the fish feeding and hearing about the history. But not as much the gardens, I think.

Trying to decide if we should book this tour or Hidden Gems. They would love Hidden Gems, but I am not sure I will feel like I learned as much/saw as much.

We could do St. George on our own, but it might turn into too much walking for older family members (unless we can it to get around).

How many are you in your group? Heidi only takes 10- you might be able to do a 'private' tour if you pay for the unsold seats- or just tell her your preferences- maybe she can do what you want anyway- doesn't hurt to ask

  4. I just read on another thread about a problem a group had with Ricky's Tour- I almost booked him to save a few bucks- so glad I didn't- looking forward to our tour- she responds to every email- sent us a pic of her, her van and we're given a map of where to meet her and said that our names will be in the front window

  5. Working on trying to set something up with her for our Breakaway cruise in July. She is not available for our first day in port. Trying to decide if it makes sense to book her for the 2nd day. There are 6 of us; we would be traveling with 2 who have already booked. My mom has chronic pain issues so I was hoping we could do a "solo" tour in case we had to return early.

We originally requested a tour for the second day thinking it might be better to check out the Dockyard- take is easy the first day- ship might get delayed etc. She recommended doing it the first day. I would do it the second day- hit the beach and check out the Dockyard the first day- then maybe take the ferry back over to Hamilton the third day- still plenty of time to see what you missed and still get back in time for your departure

  6. We did the Gem last month- ships seem very similar in size- we got the UBP on the Gem and have the basic beverage package on the Summit- gem was 11 days Caribbean rt NYC with 5/6 sea days- Summit is Bermuda 7 days rt NJ next month- 4/5 sea days- I plan on comparing the ships/ sea days- without the ports here

  7. We were on the Summit last week and one night ( though we only had cocktails out there one night) there was a guitar player. We didn't stay long as we had other plans. But the little we heard - he was good.

Doubt it was the same guy- he was from Canada and it was 8 years ago , but we loved the scene- open air etc!

  8. Heidi's mother just died - I'm sure she'll carry on business as usual but she's hurting a bit.

And this is a PS, not to take away from Heidi's pain, but I take a bit of an issue with

"To her credit, Heidi makes the most out of a place that is not a real standout when compared to the likes of Hawaii, Fiji or most of Polynesia."

I've been to Hawaii, Fiji and most of Polynesia a number of times and I think you overstate their attractions.

Thanks for the info on Heidi- I have also been to Hi and Fr Polynesia- Bermuda is not that- duh- looking forward to spending a day with her and getting a taste of the history

  9. NCL- Freestyle dining-I don't know what ship/ itinerary you have- but the shows are usually 7pm and 9pm . Once on board you can make reservations for each night for the MDR- we preferred Grand Pacific- no tanks or shorts- better views- look at your itinerary and times back on ship- you can play it by ear or make a reservation for each night depending on what you think your schedule is for that day- we had a standing reservation in the Grand every night at 6- if you decide to do one of the other (pay )restaurants that night- just let them know about your reservation in the Grand- they will cancel it for you

A 5:30 or 6 pm may get you done for the 7pm show- we are not late nighters so we have dinner early and either caught some of the early show or enjoyed the live music that always started around 8 and played well into the late late night in different venues- keep the 'daily' with you

  10. Our last cruise on NCL we had a $300 obc as part of our NCL booking- which we thought we could use towards our service charge- did not find out until the morning of of disembarkation that we couldn't- had to purchase a bunch of pics and frames just to use it. I've read here that you can use the obc from X towards your service charge- but from what I read in the X small print- you can't- so I took the bev package and internet- was I wrong

  11. We had a standing reservation at the Grand Pacific for dinner- by the second night the hostess remembered and greeted us by name before we got to the podium- made us feel special- she also came to our table one day at O'Sheehan's to say hello_ Melba- so great

  12. Just off- had a great time- did the 12 day in December '14- after O'Sheehan's re-done, but just before the total refit- that time in 12 days we did Aruba- this time in11 we did St Kitts- all the rest the same- San Juan, St Thomas, St Maarten and Tortola

Since we've done it before ( and all these islands more than a dozen times) this was just about us getting away- so for now I won't get into the ports

UBP- so great-the 'crew' in the atrium were the bets- Antoan, Jimmy, Ansell, and the girls were the best out of all the bars

Entertainment- Groove is one of the best I ever saw at sea- every time it's different - their repertoire just blew me away/talent

Barry and Leo are also good- Hotwire too- just not as good- show band were great!- Atrium and up in Spinaker's

The comedian- Tim Kaminski was good- did not go to any other shows

  13. We also have gotten picked up on the second level without a problem. When you get out to the end of the pier, just go up in the elevators to the second level. Go outside, make a left, and walk about halfway down to the next pier. There is a sign that says "guest pickup" or something like that. Just call your car service when you get there, and you will be on your way. Much better than joining the masses crossing 12th Avenue. And by walking down towards the next pier, it will get you out of the way of the people being dropped off for the next cruise in front of the terminal. And another tip, use a porter - he will zoom you through a separate customs line, and take you right up in the elevator and out to the pickup point.

What do suggest as tip for a porter who gets us up and 'away' with 5 bags

  14. You only get the credit if you actually take the excursion. There's no credit to "lose" as it's not a general OBC that you can use for anything else. You must book by calling pre-cruise or by booking on board.

And when you call in advance to book an excursion using the promo, you are not charged. You will be charged on board. As noted above, if you need to cancel a booked excursion, you must do so within the time specified.

So this another way NCL tries to take advantage of us?- give us the promo/ credit- then encourage us to pre book excursions after we register online and then charge our cc cards and hope we don't read the small print, don't catch up until it's too late -when are back home and take a good look at our on board charges?
