Ours for sailing in may is currently 44 dollars i'm sure before it was much more ,but i still don't think we drink enough for it to be worth while for us

At that price break even is about 3.5 cocktails a day.  To me that is a no brainer.  A mimosa, two day drinks and a drink at dinner and you are even.  Add in the water, fresh juice, etc and there is almost no way to not break even unless you do not drink at all.  For me being able to try random drinks without risk is the best part of the package.  I recommend you buy at that price.

Interesting... The article linked a couple posts back says it was a crew member - ah whoever knows?

vidsmart - I need to find your books, they sound interesting!

The article you reference said in a previous incident (the January one) it was a crew member.  It says the passenger was rescued in this instance.

For the record, food poisoning or Noro hits you MUCH QUICKER than 33 hours (or 2 days as you said) so I am even more in doubt the dinner was the cause of her distress. You can get Noro from touching elevator buttons, stair rails, bathroom doors and more....but it hits in 12 hours, not 33.

You actually couldn't be more wrong my friend.  33 hours is the exact median time for onset of Noro.

The average incubation period for norovirus-associated gastroenteritis is 12 to 48 hours, with a median period of approximately 33 hours. Illness is characterized by nausea, acute-onset vomiting, and watery, non-bloody diarrhea with abdominal cramps.Sep 6, 2011
  4. I am considering the Ultimate dining package for my upcoming 12 day cruise.  I am interested in how the lunches work on Grandeur.  What specialties are open?  If Izumi is open is it a la carte?  With the dining package could I get something to go if I didn't want to eat in the specialty that evening?

  5. I am very much looking forward to going on Grandeur for the first time in April.  It is not a mega ship so it doesn't have all the newest things found on those boats, but they also don't have 5000+ people on board.  The advantage of a smaller ship is they can get into more ports.  The itineraries are really nice especially on the longer trips.

Almost... Johnny Rockets and Starbucks are not included with the DBP or RP but everywhere else is.  Also, when I was on Liberty there was one bar (I can't remember which one) that didn't have a blender so no mixed frozen cocktails there.

Milkshakes at Johnny Rockets are included with the Deluxe drink package.

  7. We used to sail NCL pretty much exclusively.....they have lost their ever loving mind in the last few years.  When the new CEO took over a few years back he destroyed the company.  Their prices are insane for things like the liquor package (they just increased it again to well over $100 pp/per day).  The MDR food on NCL is absolute crap, and we found that we absolutely need the dining package on NCL to have edible food (and we are NOT foodies).

Royal is much better at this time IMHO.  the dress code on Royal is no different then NCL.  The drink packages are priced SIGNIFICANTLY better (the "free" NCL drink package was just dumbed down to only include low tier alcohol you would need to pay a $49.99+18% upgrade price to get better liquors on top of the 18% gratuities you already paid to get it "free") than NCL.  I paid $47 pp/pd on both of my upcoming Royal cruises during one of their sales.  Keep checking after you purchase because they will allow you to cancel/rebook if the price drops.  Royal does have a dining package, and their specialties are VERY VERY good.  You do not need on on Royal however as their MDR food is also very good.

I would 100% recommend you jump ship from NCL (pun intended).  My last cruise was actually a Carnival, and it BLEW NCL out of the water......Royal is even nicer.  Free yourself from the land of nickles and dimes (NCL) and try out some better cruise lines!!

I don't know? Is it me or are the sailing gods sticking it to us again? These beverage packages change it seems, every couple of months, so much so that I guarantee the bartenders on the NCL ships don't even know the prices. I am particularly upset (could use a more fitting word) that those loyal to the brand who book well in advance get screwed (seems like bait and switch). Should there not some sort of rebate or credit for those people? At any rate, I believe the cruise industry is beginning to price themselves out of my wallet, which is unfortunate as it is my favorite vacation experience. I have one more set of deposits to go after my next cruise and once that is used up I believe it is time to sail on my friends. Just saying.

This is just NCL.  They are losing their minds with these insane prices.  Check out the other lines.  We were once VERY loyal NCL cruisers.....now I won't spend another cent with them.  They price gouge and screw over cruisers that have already paid for a service at every turn.

Sometimes it's asked for, but as long as license and cruise docs have same name with BC in maiden name, not a problem. That's why the marriage license is not always asked for.

The real reason a women would need the marriage license is if she booked the cruise in newly married name and had no picture ID in that name.

Again, ours WAS asked for and her DL had her married name.  It did not match her BC nor did it match her Passport so they required the marriage certificate.  If you are traveling with mismatched documentation it is 100% recommended to bring the marriage certificate.  There is absolutely zero downside for having an additional document that you are not asked for.  If you find yourself in this situation you absolutely should bring the marriage certificate to prevent any possible issues.

Was it because your wife's name on license and name on reservation were not the same? Otherwise she would have made it on fine without marriage license

We made the reservation under her married name.  Her passport had her maiden name.  Her DL was her married name, but her birth certificate was obviously her maiden name.  Basically nothing matched so they asked for our marriage certificate.  We planned on this and had it with us, so it was not a big deal.

I have a friend who booked and she just realized she may not have the proper documentation.  The cruise leaves Friday.

Anyone have experience with the following scenario?

She has a drivers license in her married name with Jane Doe Smith.

Her birth certificate says Jane Doe.

Does she still need her marriage certificate since her middle name is her married name?  Both she and I have called Royal and gotten 2 different answers.

She will need her marriage certificate.  They asked for my wife's after we got married, before we updated her passport.

  12. Not a chance.  The drink package is the best money spent on the ship.  I paid $47 a day/pp for both of our upcoming cruises.  Mixed drinks are $10-$13 each.  Beers are ~$8.  Add in soda, water, etc and it is unbelievably easy to break even with even minor drinking.  Most days I will "break even" by Lunch, and I do not drink in my everyday life.  It is vacation, not thinking about what I order makes it even more relaxing.  I would never sail without it.

  13. If you have never been to the Bahamas it will be fine.  There is a few awesome things to do at every port.  The Bahamas has relatively few things to do compared to other islands so it gets old very quickly, but on a first visit you will be fine.  After you have gone a time or two you too will likely not want to go back.  We actively avoid cruises with Bahamas stops these days if at all possible, and would never think about booking a Bahamas only cruise.

So, they can sit in any bar and have a virgin drink. Is anyone going to check their pina colada to see if it contains rum before speaking to them? Seriously? Believe it or not, there are people who are over 21 who do not drink alcohol.

Clearly not a bar person....Thats ok.
