You can request to be seated alone and they will gladly accommodate you.

Logically what you are saying makes sense. That’s why it’s confusing when you see 200% supplement. For instance I only pay a 150% supplement on Royal due to my loyalty status. But I’m really only paying. 50% supplement of the fare.
I think what they mean when they say 200% is that a solo would pay 200% of the advertised price. In other words, if the advertised amount is $1,000 a single occupant would pay twice that amount, i.e. $2,000.

Pretty sure a good part of this info is from a program cancelled years ago. It's actually mentioned in another CC discussion as being from 2007.
I believe that all 3 of those ships were built long AFTER 2007.

I am not questioning the management... I need to view 2 notifications for me and the site will not let me see them. Sounds like a technical glitch on the part of Cruisecritic which needs fixing on your end.

I am unable to view 2 most recent notifications for me, but I can see older ones. What happened and how can I read what was written to me?

My point is that I believe that many people think "Wow, NCL has cabins for single people; that means that there is no single supplement." They think this without looking at the ppdo for a regular inside cabin and noticing that the ppdo is actually LESS than what is being charged for the tiny single studio. I know that they cannot book the regular cabin for that ppdo price, so they are still paying a supplement to occupy a much smaller space. For example, say the ppdo for a basic inside is $900; without a single supplement it would be 450/person. Yet the price for the single studio is $600. So, don't fool yourself into thinking NCL does not charge a single supplement; they are, however it is less than the 100% charged by other cruiselines....and you are getting a much less desirable cabin.
-
When singles complain about having to pay a single supplement, the response is "oh, NCL has cabins just for single people". There is no mention that these cabins still cost more than the per person amount for a regular cabin and they are the size of a closet. So, IMO, its not a good deal at all.
-
NCL is pulling the wool over our eyes with those so-called single occupancy studio cabins. Sure, they can only occupy a single person....BUT they are not priced at half of a double occupancy cabin plus they are smaller than a regular cabin. Very sneaky. No one is getting a good deal booking one of those studios. Very sneaky of them. I have not and will not sail on NCL.

Solo cruise booked January 9th 2001 on the Encore out of Miami this is my 3 rd date change since Covid started. I have my doubts we will be sailing anytime soon before late spring here in the US.
2001???

I'm very curious about why you want help to choose an UNsuitable cruise.....as you wrote for the topic of this thread.

for land tours, there are some group tour companies, which guarantee you a room sharing partner and if they can't find one they will not charge any single supplement
drsel,
You don't get it. The original poster does not seek help finding someone to share the cruise; they want to know if different people can sail on different segments of the world cruise with them rather than the same person for the whole duration of a world cruise. The OP apparently knows different people who are willing to do this but are unable to do the whole thing.

I had no problem hearing it. Did you increase the volume on your computer??

I wouldn't count that as single cruising if you're sharing a cabin and going with friends. Hope you had a great time!
I'm sure she means that she and her friends are single, i.e. not married...

croozbabe,
Your situation surely seems to be unique to me. I am sorry you are experiencing this situation.
Sometimes, as a solo diner when other dining companions are not available for whatever reason, I am "my best dining companion". (Most recent experience of that was on Royal Princess, New Year's Eve dinner, December 31, 2018, anytime dining guest. I requested to be seated with others and ended up at a table for two, set for one, with no chair opposite me. And, that "arrangement" was after I had waited 90 minutes for my pager to ping.)
I am not the one experiencing the situation. Someone else is the OP.

Hi Ian, wow, you have been moved twice? Sorry you haven't had any luck then. I have found most cruisers are
quite friendly but sorry you are having issues trying to find folks to dine with. I would just go on my own and ask
for 2 top…….or try a Specialty Restaurant
Oh, I don't really care if I eat with other solo guests......so long as the people are friendly, doesn't
matter to me if they are single or not.
Lois, He is just looking for other English-speaking people to dine with, not necessarily other solos...

Between my two solo cruises, I've been fortunate to not have noticed any negativity. Lots of folks have complimented my choice to live my life on my terms. In one case (that kinda makes me teary) a family of four was seated next to me in the MDR. The youngest, a girl, asked if I was "all by myself". I responded yes ma'am. She turned to her mom and her mom said "that is something to be proud of". I am.
I am single, never married and don't have children. My sister and her family are very busy. My dad has tried but can't pull the trigger on retirement. Most of my friends have kids and/or husbands. I always let them know of my plans and would love to have them join but they haven't. I have reached a point in life where I'm done waiting. I'm taking the bulls by the horns and doing the things I want and enjoy!
You and your philosophy sound just like me! And I live in the Maryland/DC area.

You might have hit on the reason why there were more people on the other side: more chairs. I don't remember though. At any rate, I was more a fan of the benches farther down because they were away from the doors. Sometimes there is a trade-off between comfort and solitude on Carnival. The observation deck on Deck 10 only had a bench, and except for the first day when we were leaving Galveston, it stayed pretty empty a lot of the time. This picture was taken on day 2 of the cruise.
Those benches are not comfortable at all!!!

Its disappointing that they only have 4 chairs out on the whole long deck. This seems to be a trend and I wonder why.

Can some people educate me on Medicare advantage plan? AM I correct in thinking Medicare does not cover outside the state's. I'm not familiar with Medicare yet.
Thanks
This seems like a strange place to inquire about Medicare. I suggest you go to Medicare.gov.

Yes, those upper decks can get HOT!!! If you don't mind sweating and getting burned while sitting still, that place is for you. Any shade up there is at a premium and will move as the ship moves and the earth rotates; so it won't last long and you will have to get up and move your lounger in order to stay in the shade for any length of time. Again, the best (and coolest) quiet space indoors is the nightclub during the day. Promenade deck for lovely views, fresh air, shade (you have to sit on the shady side either port or starboard) and blissful peace.

On most ships I have been on, I have been able to find a quiet spot on the upper decks. Usually there is a corner out of the foot traffic. I just watch a likely spot and if it is quiet enough, I settle in. Often it still has a nice ocean view.
In my experience, every interior space (except for the nightclub) always has some music piped in, day or night... It never ceases to amaze me how they seem to think that music must always be heard no matter where you go (whether it is live or recorded). Even an empty or closed bar! Promenade deck is best for peacefulness and the real feeling of sailing on the open sea - nothing like it!
