  1. Finding a quiet place on a cruise ship can be a challenge!  That is one of the first things I do when I board the ship.  After going on 25+ cruises over the years, I now know that outside on the Promenade deck is the nicest quietest place for me.  Especially if they have lounge chairs out there.  I like being outdoors, yet sheltered from the sun, and watching and hearing the passing ocean.  It can lull me to sleep and many people do just that.  My most recent cruises, though, have had a narrow promenade deck which only had regular chairs (so you can't stretch your legs out).  Was such a disappointment!  Not nearly as relaxing to sit up straight and, of course, you can't rest your head back and close your eyes.  However, as odd as this sounds, the other quiet spot during the day, is the nightclub/disco!  And there are usually some large upholstered chairs or sofas to stretch out on plus a great view of the sea since the location is high up on the ship.

  2. Bermuda is beautiful! But it won't be warm enough to go to the beach in October, most likely, because it is not in the Caribbean. There is also a possibility of a hurricane at that time. Bermuda is in the mid-Atlantic at the same latitude or longitude as North Carolina.

    Enjoy your cruise!

  3. ...........I have to pay double on solo cruises

That doesn't seem to bother you because you take numerous cruises solo all the time...and, I might add, to all the same destinations over and over. So you must be enjoying yourself....yet you don't smile.

  4. Will be sailing on the Grandeur of the Seas to New England and Canada on August 2. Should be a nice escape from the hot and sticky weather here in the DC area in the middle of summer. Looking forward to seeing the extreme tides at the Bay of Fundy!

  5. Maybe you would like to book the one I'M on? Jeeze, why does the GUY always have to change his plans? LOL;p
I didn't mean for you to change your plans...I meant for you to book the 10/31 sailing ALSO; that is why I asked in my message that maybe you would like to book that one TOO...oh well.
  6. Hello to all,

I will be cruising solo on the Caribbean Princess that departs Southampton Aug. 29th of this year. 12 day cruise to Ireland, Scotland, Paris. I am a 67 year old Male, in GREAT physical shape. Anybody want to "Buddy Up?" Let me know. Totally "Platonic"

I am a 65-year old female cruising solo on the same ship leaving on Oct. 31 for a partial Panama Canal cruise. Maybe you would like to book that one too? Bon voyage to you and let me know your impression of the Caribbean Princess.

  7. How are the prices for solos?

I assume they are the usual double amount. I haven't checked, but I am willing to pay the full single supplement since I will not have been on a cruise for over a year at that point.

  8. I am a single female sailing solo on the Queen Elizabeth July 25-August 1. However we do not sail from Southampton. I embark in Rome and disembark in Venice with stops at Corfu, Greece; Kotor, Montenegro; and Dubrovnik, Croatia. Would you consider leaving from somewhere other than Southampton?

  9. Was this with Royal Caribbean by any chance? I totally picked the wrong excursion in St. Martin so I feel like I need a redo. This sounds great.

I normal snorkel in St. Thomas but I am changing it up this time and heading to St. Johns. Captain Nautica is a great company and used them twice. Small boats and very laid back. Oh and you get to swim with SEA TURTLES!!

No, it was with Celebrity. But I imagine they offer it to all the cruiselines. At St. Thomas, we took an excursion sailing on a big catamaran to St. John where we anchored at Honeymoon Beach, a simply gorgeous pristine spot for snorkeling or just beaching it. I don't snorkel but my sister did say that she saw a sea turtle.

  10. I recently returned from a cruise which stopped at St. Martin and I did the Ultimate Beach and Snorkeling Adventure, ship-sponsored excursion. It was really fun as we rode on a power boat which really went fast and stopped at a pretty spot on the French side for snorkeling, then we went to Mullet Bay Beach, a truly lovely spot with gentle waves and beautiful water. Our power boat then continued around the island and the guide pointed out some spectacular homes belonging to Denzel Washington and Janet Jackson as well as a yacht formerly owned by Tiger Woods (now belonging to his ex-wife). It was a fun adventure.

  11. Dolfansam,

This is off topic, but I noticed that you are in Germantown, MD. I also live in Germantown and go on a lot of cruises (at least one a year), many of them alone. If you are interested, maybe we can meet and become cruise buddies. I'm always searching for someone to join me.

  12. This is a great idea Lorne. I am a cruising newbie and next year I will be on Celebrity Reflection as there is an animal training seminar being held on it called - Five Go to Sea. I've never been on a cruise before. It is on April 19 - for seven days in the Eastern Caribbean.

I am now looking at what I can do before that cruise. I will be travelling from Australia - will attend a Clicker Expo in Norfolk VA - and will then have from April 1 to around April 15. I am thinking another cruise somewhere in that area and there are a few possibilities.

I think I am going to like cruising - I am also in my 50s - married - with grown up children. My husband is a botanist so his idea of a holiday is running around remote areas looking at rare plants!!!

I would love to hear if there are any other solo cruisers who are going on a cruise on the east coast during the time I have mentioned.

    Thanks,

    Heather

    Hi Heather,

I will be on the Reflection April 5-12. Single lady, 61, cruising alone. Would love to have you aboard to join me; you can get a preview of what to expect when you go on the same cruise 2 weeks later.

    Debbie

  13. Hi Shelly,

I'm glad to read that you are considering going on my cruise. I cruised to Australia and New Zealand in March on the Solstice (sister ship to the Reflection) and just had such a great time. LOVE the ship and love your country!!

Yes, I am aware of the VTG singles cruises but have never joined one of them.

I really hope you decide to come on the Reflection with me. After all, you have never been to the Caribbean and this is the perfect opportunity on a fantastic ship with some other singles.

  14. Hi Crooz, it is a good problem or not. My cruise in September isn't solo. I hope to do one in 2014. Could you tell me more about the April cruise (dates, ports, etc.), so I can take a look and see what's what? Thanks for the invite.

    Hi Peachie,

I'm booked on the new Celebrity Reflection April 5-12 departing from Miami to San Juan, St. Thomas, and St. Maarten.

    Debbie

  15. You so made me laugh with this post. I have the same problem. I am 67 but no one believes it. My spirit is no where in the 50s or 60s.

So glad you guys are posting as I have never gone on a solo cruise but will probably do so after the one I'm doing on 9/29. After reading the results on here, I know I will be fine. Thx.

Glad I made you laugh :-) Its a good "problem" to have, right? Hope you enjoy your first solo cruise in September and why don't you think about joining us next April on the Reflection? The more, the merrier.
