We just returned from the NCL Gem. We were going to do the Blue Lagoon but the weather was looking like rain, so we walked to Junkanoo Beach.
It was about a 10 minute walk and the beach was nice. We rented 4 chairs, with 4 free beers and 4 shots for $40!
Grab a map on the way off the pier. They are all around.
The beach wasn't crowded at all. Our kids (9 & 7) had a blast swimming and exploring the sea life.
We bought drinks served in coconuts and had a great time.
No, i will say, it is not a super classy beach, but I would do it again. Others on the ship did the same and we all agreed, good choice!
BTW...it turned into a really nice sunny day!
Thanks for the input. Was the beach clean?

We are really just looking into a beach type day or maybe a tour of the island my husband just had hip surgery recently and we can't take any chances with him doing the Dunn River Falls and falling.

We are trying to figure out what to do in Ocho
Rios Jamaica when we cruise on the Breeze in February.
We can't really do anything but a beach type excursion because my husband has had hip surgery recently and can't take any chances for awhile. I read in a review recently that someone went on a Carnival Excursion Tour called "My Jamaican Home for a day" does anyone know about this? I don't see it listed on their website.

Jamaica - We did the My Jamaican Home For A Day. It is a Carnival tour. The cost is $100.00. It is approx. 5 hours long. There were approx 25 people in our group. You are taken by shuttle to a private home that is on a nice beach. The beach is approx 300 ft. I think. It never felt croweded. It has a very large tree to provide shade and some protection from the rain.
There are two houses that can be used They have balconies that over look the beach. A nice area to keep tabs on what was going on . One has a bathroom. There is also a changing room with another bathroom. We had a couple of heavy rain showers move thru while we were there. Everyone that wanted shelter was able to get out of the rain.
It is an all inclusive tour that provides sodas, alcohol, chips. They grill jerked chicken and fish while you play. They also provide snorkeling gear and noodles for use in the water. Two life gaurds are on duty. I was very impressed on how they interacted with the children. Kids were crying when we headed to the bus. They did not want to leave.
If you want a very quite and peaceful area this might be the place for you. We were never asked for tips. There was a tip jar at the bar.
Caymans - Walked the downtown. Bought a few items. Got back to the ship just before the heavy rain and winds hit.
Couzumel - Sat on the balcony and did some people watching. We had the gang way below our room and the Freedom's gang way was in the same area. When things slowed down, we just visited the shops at the end of the pier. With our extended port time due to the concert, I think a lot of cruisers felt pretty good around midnight when they came back on board.
Where did you find the excursion for Jamaica? Is it listed on Carnival's site? Did you dock in Ocho Rios? We are going there in February on the Breeze. Looking for something to do there

What is the best beach or hotel in Nassau to spend the day at? We are sailing on the Breeze in February. Haven't been to Nassau since 1993. We are looking for a nice relaxing day. I heard there will be 5 ships in port that day!! Any input would be helpful. Thank you :)

We are sailing on the Breeze in February. Besides Dunn River Falls, what is there to do there? Is shopping good, is there a nice beach excursion that is thru Carnival? We have never been here before, so any help would be great.

How soon before your cruise to prices start to drop? I have a cruise planned for February on the Breeze..

How many people are allowed to purchase FTTF? I did mine the other day for my February cruise on the Breeze. There were only 7 tickets left

We stayed in 10278 on the Breeze, last April.
This is probably the quietest cabin we've had.
VERY little foot traffic in the halls, as the only people IN the halls, have cabins there.
The only time we heard any noise was on our balcony one night....I believe the night of the Mexican party on the Lido.
AWESOME location....You won't be disappointed.:D:D
I am in this cabin in February. First time trying the lido deck

We have never been to Jamaica before. We are sailing on the Breeze in February. How is the shopping here? Is it worth it to get off the ship or just stay on the ship and enjoy the pool for the day?

We are sailing on the Breeze in February. We have never been to Jamaica before, are there any beach excursions that anyone could recommend? and would it be available thru Carnival?

Thanks for the input everyone. I may look into this further with my PVP.

We are planning to sail on the Breeze in February. We have always booked a balcony, midship on every cruise. Always think about doing a aft balcony. How are they on the Breeze and is it worth it? Are there pros and cons? Do you feel the ship vibrate?
-
It says you can only order 1 drink and have to wait 5 minutes to order another, so does that mean if my husband and I both want a drink he can only order his 5 minutes after me? Or is it each person can order one and after 5 minutes can order another?

Thank you everyone for your replies. We are from RI. We usually cruise in April or summer time. This year we are thinking February or March. Just wanted to see how the weather is down in the Caribbean at that time. Thinking of doing a cruise that goes to grand cayman, Cozumel, Bahamas. That area. I assume the weather for the most part is always warm down there. Anything better then our New England winters, lol

What is the weather like for cruising in the Caribbean in February or March? Is it still in the 80's for temps

Does anyone know which port the Quantum of the Seas will be sailing from in the summer of 2015?

Before disembarking I took a stroll around the Lanai and met jljlinda in the forward area. This is a 'miniature' or 'toy effect' shot from that location;

I am loving this review. My next cruise I hope to sail on the Breeze. Your photos are amazing. I love the toy effect photos. Can I ask what cabin #'s you were in?

How did you like the Cove balcony? Do you feel a lot more motion being so close to the water? Is it really noisy and does it get very wet being so close? We usually stay in higher decks, but those look interesting. What cabin were you in?
-
Nice to know they give you water as well as soda....

What time is the last tender from HMC to the ship?

I have a cabana booked for our July cruise on the Valor. So looking forward to this port. From where the tender drops you off, to the walk to the beach, how long is it? Is everything pretty close together (food area, tender, cabana access) also is there any shopping to be had here?
-
My friend (doing the July cruise) is getting a message that they have to wait until 120 days before. It is possible though that it is booked up. I didn't ask her if she could book anything else for Half Moon Cay.
I suspect mine in April 2012 isn't booked up - just won't give me the "book it now" option on anything Half Moon Cay.
We are sailing in July and I booked mine awhile ago.
