  1. Yes, not many posts but I've read the boards for many years. We were well aware of the smoking issues and in fact we were only a Carnival cruise when the ban went into effect in 2014. That's why I listed them as personal problems but regardless of your opinion on smoking it still would have been nice to have had a single quiet place to smoke. We don't smoke to have fun or party...we smoke to calm down and relax.

Shouldn't have to ask for the ice...then again we've never had a steward not even show up the first day for introductions or evening turn down. It would have been nice to know you could request morning and evening service...we were handed a single piece of paper with 2 options the end of the 2nd day and asked to pick one.

Had no idea about the alcohol but I'm glad we didn't buy any. I would guess the duty free sales would plummet if people knew they had an hour long line the morning of departure just to pick up their alcohol...assuming they didn't exceed how many they could buy and then go to another hour long line to pay the duty fees.

As I said we've sailed many times in the past (12+ combined) but the last time was Oct 2014. We were aware of the many changes and prepared for issues with a small older ship (which we prefer). That doesn't excuse the multitude of other issues or make it "ok". I'm sure some people, maybe most, had a fantastic week. But I know for a fact that others, including some diamond members, said they are going RCL next time.

I wish them well on Royal, I've given them three chances to wow me, so far 0 for 3.

  2. Sorry you seemed to have so many problems. I see that you only have 7 posts so you may not follow these boards. The balconies have been non-smoking since Oct 2014. (When Carnival chooses to enforce it.) All you have to do is ask for ice and it will be brought to you. Alcohol they have stopped delivering it for some time now, you go to one of two places to pick it up now depending upon where you purchased it. Room turn down and make up service is twice a day, you are allowed to select both. I do agree that service in MDR takes too long.

  3. We had a cruise booked with RC and you can't get insurance if your a Canadian citizen, so we cancelled it and are booking Carnival where were treated like a somebody and if you have a CVP same as a PVP you don't talk to the same person like Carnival, so this will be our 4th Carnival cruise any recommendations, we've been on Conquest, Breeze and Valor

Carnival Magic has just come out of dry dock and moved to Port Canaveral (Orlando) We have it booked for December and the Vista comes out this week and will arrive in Miami in November, we are going on that one next October.

  4. We've stayed at Hampton Inn both in Isle-of-the-Palms and also in West Ashley. We like Hampton Inns b/c they wash ALL of the bedding after each guest.

They are basically the same distance to the pier. Both hotels are lovely, VERY clean, and located in safe areas. However, I must say that I liked West Ashley the best b/c the free breakfast is just over the top. Lots of choices and way better than your average free breakfast. They also have a "reception" with free beer & wine, snacks in the evening for a few hours. We did not do the park-and-cruise at either hotel, but it is probably available. I have the name of a great taxi guy here if you want it.

Thank for the info, I booked the Snooze and Cruise package at the West Ashley location today for our cruise in August.

  5. Has anyone been on the Ecstasy out of Charleston recently? I am thinking of booking a cruise on the Ecstasy in October. I sailed on the Fantasy a couple years ago and loved it. The port is so easy to get to. I just want a review of the Ecstasy, and the good and bad points of the ship. Thanks :D

We are doing a 5 night cruise on her in August.

  6. I'm going to assume you are talking about Tracy Arm and not Juneau? Yes, a lot of people have taken this tour. It is grossly superior to a cruise ship transit, and "necessary", if you want to get close to glaciers. Superior for spotting wildlife. You do loose some time in Juneau, but you do have a port time that allows some touring. Yes, the cruise ship does the same route, but usually does not get as far into Tracy Arm. It's a consistently raved about tour.

We were able to do it direct off the ship while it was in Tracy Arm. Loved it, spent over 4 hours exploring things the ship could not get to.

  7. Hello,

On April 9th of this year, I got engaged to the most wonderful man in the entire world (if you've read my previous posts I've been engaged once before for a very long time) and this time it's for real and I've got the ring to prove it:D. We just started the planning process and our date range is October 2018 through February 2019 (I understand that itineraries and pricing won't be available for awhile) only due to the fact that we'll be paying for this ourselves; with no family / friend financial assistance. The first choice is to have the ceremony / reception on a Carnival cruise ship (the Dream out of New Orleans, the Glory/Valor/Vista out of Miami, or the Magic out of Pt. Canaveral; as well as making it a long weekend celebration with a limited number of family and friends. The following assistance / suggestions will be greatly appreciated:

    1. Depart out of which port - Miami, Pt. Canaveral or New Orleans?

    2. Itinerary - Bahamas, Eastern / Western or Southern Caribbean?

    3. Personal experiences - good, bad or indifferent

Also, I'm having trouble accessing information on the Internet regarding Carnival's wedding material for

    1. Reception menus

    2. Wedding Types

    3. Music options

    4. Etc.

So if anyone has any of this information could you pass it along to me either on here or my email at: michael.hooton@state.ma.us

    Thanks in advance.

    Congrats:

We like South Beach in Miami for Pre Cruise stays, close to all of the nightlife/bars etc. Close to the port.

  8. We are still ticked that they cancelled our 12 day Journeys cruise so they could go ahead and re-position the Magic early. We are still going on the Magic but now doing Disney World before the cruise.

Pick a new Itinerary and you should be fine. They did give us $100 for the "trouble"
