  1. Where are you getting your info? 1000 tons an hour in fuel?? A quick Google search shows shows research that puts this number closer to 250 tons a DAY... Not 1000 per hour.

RCCL's Freedom of the Seas only hold just over 3500 metric tons of fuel. By your figures, they could travel for 3.5 hours before needing to stop for gas. :-/

Maybe he doesn't know the difference between tons and pounds. It should only be 10 tons per hour.

  2. Has anyone been to the Island of Dominica recently? Our Jan Escape cruise still only has 2 excursions for the island and I was wondering if it might be dropped from the itinerary. I know they were hit very hard by Maria last year. Any news on the shape of the island? I am trying to make plans

We used Reyno Tours back in Dec. 2015. The island is beautiful. Take a tour and enjoy the island. For those who don't know there is a medical school on the island attended by many Americans.

  3. Wondering on what people have used as options for ground transportation from IAH to the pier. Weighing my options since my departing flight home leaves too early to catch the Carnival shuttle (by 40 min.)

I know in Miami, cab companies offer flat rates to and from airport/pier. Houston or Galveston offer the same deals?

Thanks in advance for your help!

    Maybe see this discussion. https://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=2651337

  4. There is an airport Super Shuttle. Probably your easiest way is to use the taxi system. Flat rate of $36 for 2 from airport to the Quarter area. About $8-$10 from hotel to terminal and then the same $36 from the terminal back to the airport.

You can also use Uber or Lyft for a little less than a cab.

  5. Thanks for the feedback.

I may need to rephrase the question as it does seem to need to apply to SJ. I could wing it by looking up something I can do at the dock while waiting if they boot me out by 7 a.m. but I guess I am looking for assurance I can hang around shipboard as long as possible.

On our last trip out of SJ we had to do an agricultural inspection of our luggage as well as the regular check in of your luggage. Plan for an extra half hour or so. Also the airport gets really busy after 9am or so.

About a 30 minute cab ride to the airport.

  6. Yeah I’m booked for a 10 day South Caribbean cruise out of Miami during Thanksgiving and wouldn’t mind switching to a cruise out of New Orleans during that time if my South Caribbean itenerary changes as a result of the islands not being accessible by cruise during that time. I live an hour outside of New Orleans and would prefer to cruise out of it if both cruises are going to the western Caribbean. No point in traveling to Miami and paying for hotel stay there when I could do the same cruise easier and cheaper from New Orleans.

Move your vacation up a month and take the Breakaway from NYC to NOLA. Easy direct flight to NYC and relax for 15 days. Short car ride home from the port.

  7. Donna, I am also trying to book parking in New Orleans. I THOUGHT I was reserving at Fulton Parking Garage and went through the process only to get confirmation back that I was at the Port of New Orleans parking and mentions Fulton Place Discount Parking. Also mentions AIRPORT parking being confirmed. The address is 901 Convention Center Blvd, New Orleans, LA 70130 which seems to be right at the water NOT the airport. What I googled was Fulton Parking Garage and that parking garage doesn't come up. This isn't the same place, is it? Do you have a Fulton Parking Garage website? HELP....ANYONE!!!!

    Use this link: https://www.neworleansparking.com/?gclid=EAIaIQobChMI-dKg7Iqk3QIVVrbACh1NVQEoEAAYASAAEgJhx_D_BwE

  8. We've never stayed there but have always wanted to. That area of town is very safe on Poydras. We normally stay at the Staybridge Suites or the Drury Inn which are close by. Enjoy your stay.

  9. The first time we traveled to NOLA, we stumbled on a bar that had musicians just drop in and jam with each other. For the life of me, I can't remember where it was. Somewhere in the French Quarter....

    Any recommendations?

Anywhere in the French Quarter. Most commonly on Bourbon.

  10. Anyone stayed at Drury Inn and Suites recently? The reviews appear to be excellent but I'm looking for any recent impressions some CC members have had there. I'm also wondering about the area surrounding the hotel and whether there are any "must go" restaurants nearby?

We stayed at the Drury last month. No issues whatsoever. Great place to stay. Easy walk to the Quarter.

We've stayed there about 8 times or so.

We like Luke for restaurants near the hotel. A couple of blocks up St. Charles toward the Quarter.

  11. Food - Hmmm on authentic Cajun food. New Orleans is not really Cajun. For that you need to drive a couple hours west. Maybe try Mulate's or Grand Isle. That would be close.

Tours - Maybe try Free Tours by Foot. We did a couple of their cemetery tours. Really good and pay them what you think. Paddle wheel tour on the Natchez. Ride the street car all the way down St. Charles through the Garden District. Ghost tour in the Quarter.

Transportation - Use Uber or Lyft. I think it's $36 from the airport to the Quarter. About the same for a taxi.

Memorable meal - Try Commander's Palace.

  12. Thank you very much trying to decide between the dbltree and the Hampton inn on Carondelet street seems like either would be good and both have good reviews as well

    No problem. Anytime.

I've also stayed at the Hampton Inn multiple times. It's closer to the action on Bourbon Street(Carondelet turns into Bourbon when you cross Canal). Both are nice.
