  1. i remember reading this thread years ago and went looking for it last year or so. I'm glad it resurfaced because i need to re-read it again. We are scheduled to go on the dawn next year and i found it real interesting the first time i read it.

I wondered what every happened to the tv show that investigates these types of things (can't remember the name of the show) that was supposed to go on the dawn and see what they could find out? I think it was about a year or so ago but i never heard anything more about it.

    ghost hunters..... :)

Thanks for all of the above advise. My parents do not need anything special' date=' just a little extra attention as they are in their 90's, but I am very blessed to be able to cruise with them. They are actually quite a bit of fun![/quote]

That's great! Have an awesome cruise!!! :)

  3. This is something that NCL's Access Desk team will handle for anyone regardless of their cabin category, not something that one would ask from the Pre-Cruise Concierge desk.

Yes, Thank You! I should have been clearer in my post. I was just adding it as the OP was new to NCL and in case they needed the info. :)

  4. Although I have never personally done this, I have been told by several reliable sources that you can visit Guest Services during the first sea day and ask to be added to the list of interested passengers to be selected for the Captain's Dinner. If selected, you will then get an invitation sent to your cabin with the information. I hope this helps!!

  5. Sometimes the Blue Lagoon is open on embarkation day for lunch. It is worth checking into when you arrive on the ship. However, unfortunately, it is not always open. I do not know the rhyme or reason to the schedule of Blue Lagoon on embarkation day. It may vary from ship to ship. The Dawn and Gem were open when we sailed, however, on the Star is was closed.

  6. As stated above, with Freestyle Cruising, dressing up is optional. The photographers are available most nights if you want to dress up for a family photo. We were aboard the Gem during a New Year's Eve Cruise. Even on New Year's Eve, there were some passengers dressed to the nines, while others were indulging in the comfort of their resort casual clothing. Enjoy your cruise on the beautiful Gem. :)

  7. Since you are travelling with older folk, if they have any kind of medical needs that can be dealt with ahead of time as well. For example, if a CPAP machine is required, NCL can provide distilled water. Also, on that note, if anyone does require such an appliance. you should also bring an extension cord because the Dawn is an older ship, the outlets may not be around the bed area and a cord would be required. Hope this helps!!

  8. Nope. Gonna go and give it a shot. :p

Hello OP - I am sorry to hear about your problems with NCL Customer Service. or lack thereof. TBH, we too have received some poor Customer Service when calling NCL. However, I generally call back until I get positive results. Also, my fellow Cruise Critic Peeps are a great source of information. Anyway, and my point here, when you finally get to board the ship, NCL's Customer Service will be outstanding on board. They never seem to disappoint and do everything to try to make your vacation experience a memorable experience. Best Wishes and Bon Voyage!!

  9. Personally, we do not go on a cruise for the food. As such, we have always found something good to eat and have never ever gone hungry. Also, IMO NCL does a stand-up job on keeping their ships clean and ship shape. Needless to say, the older ships will show some wear and tare. In any event, I am sorry some of these scenarios impacted your cruise. Before you totally disregard NCL in the future, maybe you could consider sailing on one of NCL's newest ships in the fleet. There are a couple to chose from. However, if NCL is not for you, no worries, keep sailing and Bon Voyage!! :)

  10. YIKES! I know it is all so frusterating even before you get started with the entire ordeal. That is why I took my rings to get sized by my jeweler and just paid the $50. I also lost a small channel diamond in my emerald ring and had my jeweler replace that as well. However, your situation is indeed more detailed as evidenced by your local jeweler. I am very sorry that this situation ruins the entire "beautiful ring purchased on your graduation cruise experience." In addition, be prepared that they may incur additional charges. From my understanding, not everything is covered and free of charge for repairs. However, I certainly hope this is not the situation with your ring. Best Wishes and keep us informed with your progress.

  11. THE Mr Camz? How are you? Mrs Camz is amazing you know that right? ;) You're ring size is a 3? Wow, that's small. Do you wear them on your pinky? I will definitely go to a hometown jeweler and see what they say. I'm a little "iffy" about sending it off as well. If I ever did, I would definitely insure it and have them sign for it. I cover all bases trust me.

I'm really glad to hear that they said you got a good deal and good stones. I'm hoping I did too but honestly I love my ring no matter what. It's just a beauty to me. I stare at it on my finger constantly. I am going to do some research on it though and look up some of the info on the certificate. Thanks for the advice.

Haha I made this way too confusing!! :o It was me writing this, hubby wrote the advice under Finz2left, giving you advice to go to your hometown jeweler!! Sorry for the confusion. But thanks for saying I am amazing!!! ;) Yes, it is true, I have skeletor type hands with a size 3 ring finger. I see your sights are next on the Dawn. We loved the Dawn to Bermuda and of course there is the element of the "ghost stories" with that ship as well. While you were on the Getaway, hubby booked us on the Breakaway for May of next year to Bermuda. It seems like forever since I have been on cruise ship. :( Great review as always, I would expect nothing more. Don't worry about your state boards, they will be here before you know it and you will do just fine. One more thing, about people who give looks to you and your family, they are just Haters. Probably jealous to see everyone having a nice time. No worries there either, because unfortunately Haters are gonna hate and they are everywhere!! Talk to you soon Girl......

  12. I would just take the ring to your local dealer. It most likely would be an easy fix for them without you having to worry about sending it to NCL then NCL sending it back to you.

Hey Kim, this is Mr Camz, lol. He has good advice here because he has purchased many pieces of jewelry for me on the ships. :) Anyway, my ring size is a 3 and the rings are always too big. So we get them sized at our hometown jeweler even though we have to pay for it. Otherwise, you have to mail your jewelry in to have sized and/or fixed in your case, and I really don't trust it. My jeweler advised we actually got very good deals and good quality stones on my emerald and tanzanite rings.

  13. Seriously, as I posted on another thread regarding this topic, it is not appropriate to speculate or play the blame game here. The fact is a 4 year old child's life was ended and a 6 year old is fighting for his life. Isn't that enough right now? Thoughts and prayers should be sent to the children, their families and friends and everyone aboard the Breakaway that witnessed this horrific event. So sad!!
