I think we are all feeling the loss of Kev today even more. I know Kev is hanging out and watching this all unfold. This sailing of the Breakaway will be special. Those sailing in her will probably feel his spirit even if they have no idea who he is. Who knew....
Very true. He was so excited for Breakaway and this voyage. It is sad to see his countdown clock clicking down and knowing that he won't be on the ship. :(

WOW great format for your review! Especially, since this is apparently your first review. Very informative, descriptive and interesting. Everything a review should be. Thank you! We are sailing aboard the Breakaway in September.
-
Aurora: Welcome Back! Thank you for the very nice detailed review and nice pictures. Alaska sparks my interest. The only part I dread is the long flight to get to port. :(
-
Hi Kim: Found your review! Well done as always. Would expect nothing less. :D Sakari has really grown since your last cruise pictures. She looks like she is enjoying cruising as usual. ;)
-
Gambee: WOW! What an amazing tribute to Kev, who was all about Bermuda. He would have absolutely loved this thread. Incredible, jaw dropping detail. Simply AMAZING!!!! :D
-
Computerworks: Thanks so much for the balcony pictures! Your very well written detail review with your beautiful photos have been of great assistance. We really appreciate your time and efforts. KUDOS! :D
-
Cruisinmama: Great informative thread. Catchy title for the thread as well. :D

FYI - When you order Bon Voyage, Birthday, Anniversary or any other packages from NCL you need to order about two weeks prior to sailing. At least two weeks was required the last time I purchased a package. Most of these packages include a cake. Even the Access Desk needs 2 weeks prior to sailing for medical supplies such as distilled water to be requested. Therefore, 4 days prior notice is not unreasonable at all.

And now of course, Ghost Hunters International is going to be on the Dawn for the 10/25 sailing to Bermuda out of Boston - we're booked on the cruise, but not because of them. Looking forward to seeing if Barry can stir up some ghost action!
Really? That is awesome! If we weren't already booked on the Breakaway to Bermuda in September, we would book this cruise. We love the Dawn. Please post a review when you get back letting us know what happened. I will be looking for that episode to air. Thanks for the info. :D

I also had pre-cruise issues with the size...being a lover of the Spirit and the Sun.
They did go away very quickly once onboard... more to say about it in my trip report, but the design works. It seems like the ship has discrete areas that tend to mirror a smaller ship; you never get a wide open feeling and that masquerades the overall size.
You will like 13890... it has a transition balcony, more triangular in shape. (look at the deck plans)... that extra space is absolutely captured and usable.
I will post actual 13890 balcony pics in my review thread.
I really appreciate your insight and look forward to reading your review. I did notice that the balcony has a kind of "hump" shape but was not sure if that would actually be a plus in the room factor on the balcony.

Great minds think alike! That was our cabin... 13890.
Great location, short walk to aft elevators. Ultra quiet with the hall dead ending aft.
WOW! That's great, now I know exactly what to expect and what our cabin looks like. :) I have to admit, I am a little nervous with the size of Breakaway as I perfer the smaller ship concept. However, Breakaway sparked our interest so much we had to book. :D The balcony is going to be a shock even though we saw your pictures beforehand. Our last cruise in September we were in an Aft Penthouse on the Star with a wrap around balcony, very big balcony.

We generally use an extra suite case for our already worn, dirty clothes. I usually tuck a dryer sheet in one of the pockets, to later place in the suit case to keep things fresh! :D
-
Computerworks: Thank you for taking time to post the very detailed pictures. We find them very helpful as we have a cabin booked in that area (13890) in September. Thanks again! :)

WOW! This thread is still around and has been for a couple of years now.

Why does the butler have to take the abuse over a NCL mistake? Does not make sense to me...
My thoughts exactly...
-
Agreed on the hull art: questionable is putting it nicely.
 Peter Max fan here! The hull art is exciting and fun! :D Sorry, gotta agree to disagree on this one. Mike - Very nice of you to keep updates during your sailing here at CC. We greatly appreciate it.. ;)

bump
Hey Sue - I haven't seen you on here for awhile. :) Thanks for bumping up Kev's Memory Thread. I was thinking about finding it and bumping it to the top around May 8th, the third month anniversary of his death.
-
Yes that is a fact, pictures are starting to pour on the everything breakaway thread. Keep in mind that not all decks are the same size, deck 9 is the deepest followed by deck 12. Deck 14 & 13 are rather small. 10 & 11 fall in the middle with a good size.
Thanks. :) You must be getting very excited as your countdown clock is clicking down! :D I am very much looking forward to your review of the Breakaway. Bon Voyage.........

WOW! We were fortunate enough to have a wrap around balcony on the Star last year. After that experience, looking at these balconies, I am sorry to say I would be disappointed. :( Do we know for sure that the Aft Facing Balconies on the Breakaway are in fact larger than those posted here? The balcony cabins are so expensive on this ship and this just doesn't make any sense.

Thanks Eileen. Yep, it's coming quick and I'm not even prepared. We have 11 days until we leave. I definitely need this vacation...one way or another. I'm in finals now for the next 2 weeks and it's killing me. My Nursing final for Med Surg is tomorrow and my Pharm is next Tuesday then off we go. Woo Weeeeeee. :)
WOW! It's crunch time! Best of Luck with your exams. Just remember, Blue Skies, Calm Seas and Beautiful Beaches are on your horizon. I know, cheezy, but it's all I could come up with. :p Best Wishes with everything....... :D
-
Hey Kim - On another note, I notice that countdown clock of yours clicking down quickly, under the two week point! :D I know you need this vacation Girl! ;) Hope it is a great one. Can't wait to hear all about Carnival vs. NCL. If I don't see you on here between now and then, Bon Voyage!!! :) -Eileen-

I know my son, who was 16 when we were on the Dawn, absolutely loved it! Looking forward to reading your journey. It is very nice that you are taking your time to write this from a teenagers perspective. Enjoy writing your review and don't worry about little things like typos. :D

Our first purchase from Park West was a Krasnyansky. It arrived in a timely fashion very well shipped. Park West does amazing work framing. Most recently, we purchased two Peter Max prints in October onboard the Star. These were the last two in the gallery and we actually took them off the ship with us. All in all we purchase the art because we love it for whatever reason. For example, we have been following Peter Max and now was the time for us to move on his work. We are very happy with the deal we received and the service provided by Park West. Our Art Representative was Jullian and he told us up front that no one can determine which pieces will double in price. He advised us to purchase a piece of art because you love it, not because you feel it will make you money. Next on my list is a Joan Miro. I have a print, but not an authentic piece. :D
For clarification, my two Peter Max paintings are original. I inadvertently called them prints. My Miro is a print, not an original. :D

Can you bring a fan?

Aren't fans clunky to pack? Then again, I guess they are not much bigger than DH's CPAP Machine. He just carries that onboard with no questions asked.
