  1. we rented bikes in Nov 2014 from trisports at their simpson bay location. They will bring them to the cruise dock for you but it's a little more money. That being said, I really would do this with a guide if you have children going. It was difficult for us with our kids (20, 13, and 11) and although fun, just a little too risky with the cars and little to no sidewalks. We had five ships in that day and the traffic was horrendous going back. If it is just you and a partner, I think you'd be ok but make sure you get a map from them and ask them where are good spots to go to. We rode to Maho Bay which was a zoo and then continued on to Mullet Bay beach which was a lot of fun but a lot of work in the sun and it wasn't fun going back with sandy shoes, clothing and the heat in the middle of the day. It may be better to just take a cab or bus to a beach and relax for the day. If you need the workout, there's always the gym on the ship which is airconditioned.

  2. i was on the 4/9 sailing and really didn't g

care who was the captain. i was more interested in the ports since there were 3 i had never been to. i only saw her at st thomas but heard her every am reading her friend Confucius sayings. i am one of those people who don't care who the c.d. is. i vacation once a year, maybe 2x if lucky and i like to focus on islands not who the captain is. as long as it isn't an incompetent junkie, i don't think it should be a deal breaker.

  3. No popcorn. Good quality with movies and concerts. Very comfortable seats. I was on the 4/9 sailing and never found it crowded. Very loud so bring earplugs or headphones to decrease sound. Movies were pretty good. Star wars, the big short and others. Concert i saw was journey. Seemed to (finally) pander to the 40/50 yr old crowd 😎

  4. We ate there on 4/9 cruise and loved it. We were starving because we had only cereal for breakfast and a protein bar on our excursion. We ordered 8 items and all 6 desserts. (My husband can eat!) The waiter was laughing and said we broke the record.

  5. Had a great time. Just got off yesterday. It's busy with the many ports so I really didn't focus on the shows or captain (sorry I don't tend to pay attention to a captain or cruise director. Not a deal breaker ). Service was excellent. it was our 1st cruise with celebrity and we liked it. Qsine was good. Tuscan was good. Room was clean. I liked seeing officers in Oceanview and did ask questions regarding ships locations. Martinique was my least favorite place. Will not go on this island again unless with a ship tour.

  6. I was think of doing the same thing. We are on the Allure & I was thinking of doing the self excursion to St johns & head to Cinnamon The Allure docks at Crown bay at 10 am.Did you get the ferry on your self excursion near your ship or did you have to go into town or Red Hook to get the ferry. Also on the return did your ferry leave from Cruz bay

The trouble that I having is that 10am docking time at crown bay & the ferry times of leaving every hour.

If the cruise line has there own ferry or boat that leaves from crown bay & sets up a time to bring us back I dont think there would be a problem, but I'm not sure how the cruise line does there excursion.Any thoughts???

There is a restaurant at Cinnamon called tree top for the campers there. We also bought sodas from there at the end and noticed food there. There were about 10 cabs lined up to take people back to the ferry port. If you absolutely must have something to eat, just pack protein bars (we did this on other islands) and take a couple with you rather than search. Or eat a big breakfast and grab a few slices of pizza when you get back.

  7. No. It was right next to ship. Our excursion left from cruz bay. Just note it when you get off. I don't know what rccl does with self explore st john. We were with celebrity. Price is about the same. You just get there earlier with the red hook ferry. I liked our transport. Clean, fast, water on the way up, painkillers on the way back. 30 minutes tops from cruise port to cruz bay (i timed it). Cost us $74 for 2 of us for excursion ($37 a person). We just paid $28 cab fare on st john. ($7 a person to get there) maho was $8 for us to get back to cinnamon bay ($4 each). If i do it again, we are just going straight to maho. There is food there. If you like snorkeling, this place was excellent. Not much of a beach like trunk or cinnamon.

  8. We were at st john today. Celebrity has an excursion to self explore st john. 30 minutes over. We left at 10am. Took a cab to cinnamon bay. Snorkeled around to maho (about 35 minutes). Saw nurse shark, squid, turtles, sting rays. Took cab back to cinnamon. Left st john at 330. Great day and just enough of the sun. Ty to all on cruise critic who posted about these beaches. Gorgeous.

  9. We were on the Lionhart on 4/10 and did the Norman Island excursion. Loved it. Worth every penny. The guys were great and friendly. Worked their bottoms off to ensure we had a good time. I'd use them again and highly recommend them. We saw so much sea life here.

  10. I should add that kata mambo is a catamaran that i did for a 1/2 day and it was raining. Snorkeling for 20 minutes and most of trip captain drove around for dolphins spotting. If i didn't have fellow passengers from my ship with me i would have jumped off and swam to shore.

  11. As long as he speaks English. It's a world of difference if you do. My day was with kata mambo and while it was ok, it definitely wasn't the best excursion. We walked very briefly in fort de france and walked right to ship. I suppose with a guide it would have been better.

  12. The rooftop.is really.nice and a lot of people don't know about it or where it is. Which for us this cruise is good. We watched the big short movie the other night and picture and sound was good. However i can see where the blaring infomercials would drive people crazy. What we do is bring ear plugs when we are up there relaxing after excursions. I can't speak for balconies as we don't have one but if sound bothers you, i would just bring ear plugs in case.

  13. Thx for info re qsine. We are there tonight and that's a great heads up. We ate at tuscan for lunch (2 for 1 deal) and really liked it. I loved the hand made pasta. Just reminded me of home and dishes growing up. My husband had the chicken parm and loved it. Great service also.

  14. On summit right now. First cruise with celebrity so i do not get all the elite, aqua, michaels club...etc... perks. This is a fyi for all others. My cruise is 7 days. It is $20 a day or $140 for the cruise for unlimited internet. If you want to sign your cabin mate up they are running a special for 50% off. It is for both my husband and i $210. Speed is great. You can stream, watch netflix apparently per advertisement. I don't know what other ships are doing. This post pertains to the summit.

  15. Unfortunately he had to cancel because another group from my ship poached him for 6 hours and he'd make more money. Understandable it's a business and i told him i appreciated his honesty in letting me know. It's the last time i post my excursions on my roll call though and on the island sites until I'm done the tour.
