  1. Hi All -

I did look through a few pages to see if this question has been answered but the last response to something of this kind was 2005...  so here goes!

We are going on a cruise in April on Majestic - multiple extended family members, friends, etc.  My Dad has made the arrangements and in order to max the OBC for stockholders, he's moved a lot of people around; i.e. my nephew and his fiance are in separate rooms with his mom and his aunt, respectively.  Another sister is assigned to a cabin with my Mom and her husband is with my Dad.

According to the 2005 thread it's not a problem to go to the purser's desk (I'm guessing that's Guest Services now?) and get the people all sorted out, but is that the case when the cruise is a Medallion cruise?  I think my Dad was thinking everyone can just switch cards/medallions, but then they would have to switch back when getting off of the ship, not to mention sorting out the on board charges will be a pain.

So is it still feasible to go to Guest Services once we board to get it all sorted out?  Thanks in advance!

I have two cabins and both received an email saying the upgrade was accepted.  There is a charge for the lower bid amount on my credit card and the cabin number changed on the boarding pass.  The other cabin there is no pending charge on my card and the cabin number and boarding pass have not updated.  Is that normal?

Our experience with two royal up cabin upgrades was seeing the credit card charges come through first, then the cabin changes on the boarding pass. We got one email congratulating is for the first upgrade but nothing for the second, even checking the spam folder. Good luck, hope your second upgrade comes through!

Nice, is that total or per person. Thanks for sharing.

Per person, so upgrade cost was double what I listed above.

Got the same behavior from the royal up website on Monday of this week (6 days before cruising). Bid that was eventually approved moved to pending and was not changeable, and all other bids were moved to expired.

We went out to look at our upcoming 11/21 Harmony cruise on Monday 11/8 to see if any JS on Deck 8 had opened up (we were in a deck 7 JS and wanted to move up for better mobility), and all they had available were JS guarantees. Just for a lark, I went and checked whether there were any CLS suites still available, and there were still 17 showing as available. We figured why not do a low ball minimum bid ($600/pp) on one just for laughs to see what would happen. We just got the confirmation email a few minutes ago that our minimum bid was accepted. 🤑

That's amazing news, @orville99!  We are also waiting for a JS to CLS upgrade as well as (crossing fingers) an OS to SLS upgrade.  We hope to see you on deck 17!  Congratulations!!

  5. I don't know exactly but I recall one of our regulars (Beav? BepSF?) said that the aloha smokestacks belong to the SS Independence which has been over in drydock for over 2 years now. I think the story was that someone bought her and then the plans to refurbish fell through -- I would think that sitting in drydock all this time must be costing them a fortune too.

Ruthie will be boarded at her second most favorite place in the world, her Doggy Day Care facility; the SF Hound Lounge. We'd love to smuggle her on board but would rather do without the smell of dog poop permeating the cabin on the flight over to Hong Kong. ;)

  6. Not that I can find -- and it's too dark by the time I get home to snap a photo!

I did go take the pup for a long walk and can tell it's another RCCL "... of the Seas" but am not sure which one. Monarch? It's a sovereign class ship, not one of the huge new ones like the Vision that was here just a week or so ago.

I'll try to take a closer look (and a snapshot) over the weekend. Just 10 days until we leave (but who's counting?)?

  7. Andrew, you're still here!

Patrick was convinced he saw you early this morning in the Dallas airport (he's on a business trip) -- I recalled that you and Ed were leaving tomorrow for your P-town adventure, but figured you might have skipped out early.

Have a great time back East! :D And if you ever fly through Dallas look for your doppleganger.

  8. That's what I was thinking -- the SF M&M is supposed to be this month, right?

We had a fun time meeting DESTCRUZ last week-end, it'll be interesting to hear their stories about their Sunday in "The WC" and their cruise with BEAV on the Harmony.

Welcome back Andrew and Ed! When are you going to book the Nautica??? :D

  9. Ah, we're former Diamond Height-ers! We moved from Duncan about 5 years ago but it holds a place in our hearts -- where we met and our first condo! :D

Enjoying the sunny weather today? We're off to the park with the dog -- she is itching to get out and run around a bit. Have a great day everyone!!

  10. Likewise I'll be watching from the backed-up traffic on the bridge coming into the City, and Patrick has to work late tonight so we won't be able to join in. :(

Have fun guys! Hopefully we can get something going for a SF meeting in June.

    Steve and Patrick

PS Beav, please let us know what the plans are with DESTCRUZ on the 29th. We're sailing with them in Asia in 2006. ;)

  11. aaerobear, you just missed the Infinity, I think she sailed on Saturday morning between 9 and noon sometime (there when I went to the gym, gone when I returned).

The SS Independence has been there for a few months -- seems like they are doing nothing to it and it's just sitting there. It was dwarfed by the Infinity for the past week though.

Specifically we are on Oceania's Nautica on 2/5/2006, Hong Kong to Bangkok. it's only 10 months away.... <sigh>

  12. Unfortunately we had to cancel our 2005 trip so we have nothing until 2006 -- but it's Asia, so we are already jockeying for a decent airfare. :D

It's kind of comforting to see the Infinity in drydock every day outside our house.... we can dream of the next time we're on a ship.
