  1. I use Jucy car rental on all my trips to Christchurch as my car was destroyed in the earthquakes. Have never had a problem with them. Reasonable rates and a good additional charge for insurance. Check out their NZ website at jucy rentals dot co dot nz Rates are sometimes different.

  2. The sky couch is a waste. I would not be surprised to see them removed. You have the option when booking to purchase the additional seats at a discount. There are only 4 or 5 rows on either side of the first economy cabin designated as sky couch. I have only seen one actually being used in dozens of flights. If you are looking for space see if you can upgrade to PE now. Upgrades are very difficult to come by in this particular flight unless you have ANZ status. The flight comes thru from LHR.

  3. Fly this flight on a regular basis. Dinner is served about 90 minutes after take off. Lights dimmed shortly after service is completed. Continental breakfast served 2 hours before arrival. Complimentary beverages, snacks, sandwiches served continually throughout the flight. If in economy you need to go to the galley for service.

If you belong to Red Carpet Club you have access to ANZ Koru club. Highly recommend using. Showers, food, drinks, wifi, escorted access onto flight.

  4. USAA has chip and pin cards by request only at this time. Functions as a chip and signature in the US, has chip and mag strip. Pin number is assigned when the card is issued and cannot be changed. The unfortunate thing is so many stores in the US now have a set dollar amount before you are required to sign. My local supermarket is $75, Costco $150, I would prefer to approve every transaction.

  5. USAA has chip and pin cards, but you must request them. No available for usual website. Just send them an email to convert your account. Everything can be done online. Requested mine Thursday, in the mail Friday. No change in fees, rewards, etc. Once you have changed to chip and pin they will not change you back. Was assured there was no issue using them in swipe machines as they also have mag stripe embedded. Will let you know when I start using mine next week.

  6. A TA attempted to do this last year in the Solstice repo cruise from Ensenada to Seattle and it was a complete waste. Not enough people signed up to make it viable. From memory those that booked under this program were given onboard credit, a meal in specialty restaurant, vouchers for samples at several stops along the way as compensation for the failure of the TA promoting the event to deliver.

I would not worry about a large group being on board. A dozen or two at the most.

  7. We were on the TA and tried several times to drop in and book a future cruise but was not a do or die issue. The sign up sheet was out very early, one morning the first person signed up at 6:00am for a 9:00am meeting. Whoever the consultant was she was overwhelmed, often staying well past her posted time to accommodate those that had signed up. There was a box for dropping FCC forms in. The day I dropped my form off for 4 credits there was a sign indicating it would be 10 days before we could see it in our account. The deposits showed up on the 22nd, credit card charged the same day. No problem as far as I am concerned. For those that need to meet face to face with a PC, another is needed to relieve this poor persons stress. Several travelers comments, attitudes were poor.

  8. According to the terms and conditions, promo is open for Canadian residents. Itineraries do not look very interesting.

  9. We do a multistep Australia/New Zealand on a regular basis and have always had luck with Air NZ. Take a look at their website and build your own trip. You can leave out legs of the trip, just click on the line between two locations and select own transport. Should work out okay as long is you do not double back thru a city you have already been to. Route we have done, LAX-SYD-own transport to Queenstown-Christchurch-Auckland-Fiji-LAX. Hope this makes sense.

  10. There is only one train running this route. Daily from Christchurch through to the West Coast and return. It does not matter which side you sit on as the train is not wide and has large windows. There is an outdoor carriage which allows for great photography.

I personally would only do this as a ship excursion due to the time constraints and the earthquakes which are still rocking Christchurch.
