Cool Cruiser (2/15)

  1. From his description: In this episode - maritime historian at Campbell University (@campbelledu) and former merchant mariner - discusses the three salvage operations that have to be attempted and the lack of an incident commander to oversee the situation. I just hadn't heard about the three companies that will be doing the salvage. Seems like a far more trust-worthy source as compared to people like me. 🙂
  2. Very interesting video about the salvage of the bridge. Sounds like there will be third companies involved in the salvage and the companies have already been picked.
  3. It ain't bad - just the hotels at either end can be slightly pricey (especially Vancouver). However, both are gorgeous cities, so it would be worth a day or two before/after.
  4. The first two people in the room are going to cost you. The third person is where the KSF kicks in or not...even if they don't qualify, the third person is never that much anyways.
  5. The Apr 30th'24 sailing on Ovation from Honolulu to Vancouver is a crazy good deal right now. Guarantee Balcony is about $1321 all-in for two. Add in a kid under 12 for an extra $111. This would work out to an astonishing $52pppn.
  6. Ship: Ovation of the Seas Destination: Hawaii-Vancouver Dates: Apr 30 - May 9, 2024 # of Nights: 9 Cabin Type: Balcony Total Price (inc. taxes & port charges, exc. gratuities): $1791.32 for 3 people Average Price Per Night (per Person - USD): $66.35 Other Perks: Prepaid Gratuities for 2 Adults, $100 OBC (agency), $225 OBC (Cruise Line), Specialty Dinner for 2
  7. Looks like we missed out on the 10 day Quantum booking for Hawaii - It was showing at lunch, but came home to book and now it's gone. What is weird that inside/ov/balcony is sold out for 3 passengers, but tons of availability for 2 passengers.
  8. Oops, never mind...must be the Ovation itin, not on the Quantum.
  9. Where are you seeing this? There is nothing on the Royal site for that itinerary.
  10. Yep, got the email today while at work. Super bummer. We are considering the Ovation as well, but the 13 day had a much nicer itin and better pricing.
  11. I came across another thread which mentioned to check your watchlist...did that, and it shows it's sold out. Phew...
  12. We have the Oct 1 sailing from Vancouver to Hawaii booked. Today, it has disappeared from the main website to book for new passengers. Is this normal for a sold-out ship, or should I expect a cancellation email in the next 48hrs?
  13. Not to derail this thread - it is already getting some great traction, so thanks to everyone who has posted their bookings. There seems to be a lot of questions about what to include and what not to include. I went with including Taxes, Gratuities and Base Fare as these are items that you have to pay with final payment. Everything else either can be paid on the ship or relate directly to your situation (which is different for everyone). Taxes and Gratuities also very by itinerary, so it makes sense to include them. Again thanks everyone for the posts - the goal of this thread was to help people to consider sailings/trips that they might not otherwise. I was actually surprised how reasonable the 13 day Vancouver to Hawaii was and thought others might like to consider it given the current pricing. Last but not least - I cannot actually modify the original post now, so I guess it will just have to stay the way it is. 🙂
  14. Prices on the website do not include tips, and many just pay it on their shipboard account rather than pre-paying. This is just to give a gauge to see the deals that people are paying.
