  1. Just to clarify about cash accounts. You can charge up to $500 before actually putting down any money. They have that listed on the first page of cruise compass.

Really?? I remember the days when the mini-fridges were locked. The room steward wouldn't open mine until I set up an account at GS.

If one doesn't give a CC number during check-in...how is the ship going to collect any money for purchases if one never sets up an account? Isn't that a bit risky for the ship?

    Just wondering!

  2. You can do that but I'd suggest going at an off time, GS is a mad house embarkation day.

Thanks for the information LMaxwell.....and that's why I thought it would be easier just to 'order' the OBC beforehand, it eliminates the long wait at GS on embarkation day! One can't buy anything until the cash account is set up, and with so much going on....suitcases, safety drill, meeting up with friends, etc......not having to go to GS makes the first day a little less harried!!

    Thanks again :D

  3. Not knowing what the change is all about....but...if the change is a change of status..meaning that you are booked with someone, and now that someone is not going....and you will be alone in the cabin...I wouldn't change anything.

From what I've read....if your 'cabin mate' does not show up...it's simply put down as a 'no show'. At the point of leaving on the cruise, the cabin mate has paid....so if I were you....just pay for both you and your (ex) cabin mate....and save alot of money. The cruise line doesn't care who pays the fare... You do run the risk of that person actually showing up with a paid ticket..but if it's a friendly split....then just agree to pay for him/her....you'll need his/her passport number and other API information.

If it's not a friendly split...then you really have no choice but to cancel and rebook, paying the much higher price.

    Hope that helps.

  4. As another data point, entertainment reservations are available for our October cruise on Allure of the Seas. They all worked except for Chicago which gives an error if you try to reserve it.

I went to my booking for my October Oasis cruise...and was told not to come back until 2 months before the cruise?? Wonder why you could book your Allure entertainment this early??

It doesn't matter if one booked with a travel agent does it?

  5. Thanks Doc..

did the gene pool become corrupted in the '80 somehow?

I think pharmaceutical companies had a 'light bulb' moment back then...they discovered that producing pills to cure people wasn't making them enough money....once cured, no more pills....so they had to invent 'medications' to relieve the symptoms.....without curing the people. JMHO just saying......

  6. RC probably doesn't want to encourage singles...but doesn't want to get rid of them either...I'm sure a family of 4 occupying a cabin spends alot more than a single does throughout a cruise so RC would rather see 4 in a cabin than just 1.

But it's what YOU want to do that's important. If the cheaper Carnival cruise sounds better to you, than go for it. I've done cheap Carnival cruises, and I've done cheap RC cruises...it's the cruise that I want.....and the friends that go with it....cost and company are considered as well...it's a package deal.

But you can't go wrong if you do what appeals to you....

    :D

  7. There's an unlimited number of topics that are travel related that are not on this board. I'm also confused about why this particular "travel related" topic is on this board.:confused::confused:

Some things are just plain confusing....but it's an interesting topic, and lots of folks are enjoying the read. Just saying..........

    :D

  8. I stress as well....take your documentation from your TA regarding the On Board Credit. Our's did not show up at all, so about 2 days into the cruise, I went to Guest Services...they had no record of it.

Good thing I had the paper from the travel agent, with her company name, address, phone number, my and my cabinmate's name, and amount of OBC. They actually took another day to phone her and verify the amount. I don't know what else went on, but we finally got it.

I'm sure without that documentation, we wouldn't have received it. It's not good enough just to show a number on an invoice....ask your travel agent for full information about the OBC with as much detail as possible. Especially include your travel agents contact information and name and company.

    :D

  9. Thank you Lars. You are most helpful. I'm not sure what is going to happen in those ports, but you've given me some good ideas.

It's too bad about trying to find local food. We can all eat at the fast food places anywhere. Will just have to keep my eyes open and hope for the best!!

    Thanks again!

  10. Hello I-Cruiser. I've been reading your answers to questions about Norway and have a few of my own..if you don't mind.

I'm on a Royal Caribbean ship May 17-25 going to Skjolden, Flam, Olden, Alesund, and Stavanger. Tours for Flam, Olden and Stavanger have been arranged.

We arrive in Skjolden at 4pm and leave at Midnight.....would you have any suggestions as to what to do during this time?

I like your ideas about what to do in Alesund. I would love to have a typical Norweigan meal while in Norway somewhere. We're there between 8am-4pm. Would it be best just to walk around town, take in the sights, and eat somewhere? You mention a barge restaurant. Is this in Alesund? Is it easy to get to?

This is my first time in Norway and am truly looking forward to doing anything...the pictures are beautiful. Thank you for any help.

    Joyce :D

  11. I suspect you meant Prince Rupert. :D

You're a 'Prince' for pointing out my small error...LOL Yes, I meant Prince Rupert!!!!

I've been to Prince George, and it's quite inland....

Merry Christmas to one and all !!!

    Joyce :D

  12. Do any ships cruise there? lol

They sure do! On the East Coast...you have ships going to places in Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island, and Quebec....and on the West Coast...ships go to Victoria and Vancouver....and I hear that some may now be stopping in Prince George, BC.....how's that??!! No excuses, now!!! :p

    Joyce :D

  13. You're very welcome...to all those who thanked me for posting the pictures...it was no problem at all!! Now I thank Doug for posting them!! If you want a break...I can do them again.

Pat, thank you for posting all the 'documentary'.....I'm glad to read that Egon's elbow is healing nicely.

So sorry to hear of your faithful companion's passing. It is so very hard. Do know that he is at peace and out of pain. His beloved memory will live in your heart forever

It looks like Egon is in a very nice place...certainly nicer than here...LOL But we have no snow yet here in Ottawa!! I'm hoping for a green Christmas...the first one since 2006...but that's not that long ago...hahaha

A good day to all tomorrow!!

    Joyce :D

  14. Joyce, I didn't realize you could take the train all the way to Port Huron, I love that town. I used to live in London, Ontario and that is how I would cross to do my grocery shopping to smuggle back into Canada!!

The train sounds like fun. Your fall travels look exciting.

    Have fun

    K

K...for sure you can take the train to Port Huron from Chicago..in fact, that train used to go into Sarnia....but Border Security put a stop to that a few years ago.

We always go over to PH (as my Mom and I called it) to do some great shopping. My Dad buys his gasoline over there and his chocolate milk...the full fat kind...the best kind...:p

The train was very enjoyable and cost alot less than VIA Rail too.

    Your grand kids are adorable!!!

    Joyce :D

I envy you! Sure sounds like a great trip. A former cruiser friend of mine who died last year always took the train to and from New Orleans and loved it. As for Canada, never been there in my life. Have a great trip my friend!:)

Pat...you must come to Canada some day...it is beautiful...as beautiful as the US....and worth the trip!!

    I did have a wonderful trip...thank you!

    Joyce :D

  15. Welcome back Joyce! Hope you had a wonderful extended vacation. I was getting concerned as to where you were, but at my age sometimes the brain is warped and I forget things.

Thank you for the welcome back!! When I left, Egon had his camera stolen along with other items..ie passport...so I knew that there were no pictures to post.....I haven't yet read the updates.....so much to do, so little time....LOL

Joyce - Glad to see you back. You do have some catching up to do.

I like the name Samson for a kitty, but don't get me started on my kitties or I'll be posting pictures of them instead of Egon's pic's :p

You could post both.....not showing any favourtism....LOL.... ;)

  16. Thank you Doug, for posting the pics....I've been away...first for 7 weeks on a wonderful vacation. Then after being home for less than 2 weeks, I went to look after my father post-surgery.....so I'm just now getting back on track.

I love your kitties....your Bright Eyes looks identical to my Samson !! I love kitties...oops, did I say that already!!

I guess Egon received a new passport....I must go catch up on things!!

    Hi Pat!!

    Thanks again,

    Joyce :D
