  1. Just off the Dream this morning. I gotta tell you that I was amazed at the families with lots of kids. We were in Concierge (just husband and self) and there were even lots of families there , many in 1 bedroom suites. I kept figuring up how much the cruise was costing these families. And nobody looked like a movie star either -- just average folks.

I don't know how families afford it, but they certainly did on this cruise.

BTW: was Concierge level worth it? Probably not . Would I do it again? In a heartbeat !!

Perhaps tacking on the cost of Airfair is also a factor. Those families living in Florida or have a reasonable drive to the port would find it more cost effective, especially with a larger family.

  2. Looking for anyone who has done a JVD excursion off of Tortola. We are doing a Disney Cruise and are looking for a vendor who does the 1/2 day excursion. Willing to spend a little more to extend time on the island, avoid standing in line and general unorganized confusion. Traveling with 4 year old granddaughter so the swim to shore thing might be an issue. Have heard that Disney no longer offers an excursion to JVD. Help and advice please !! Thank you !:)

Went on the JVD excursion this past January (NCL Escape) on the "Reble Yell" that dropped us off almost to the beach in their catamaran. This would be no problem for your 4yr old as there were other little ones. LOVED IT!! We were planning on doing this also on our Disney cruise with their posted excursion. So, is it true that Disney no longer takes this excursion? If not I will also be looking to DIY. I am not aware if the"Rebel Yell" does anything other than charter though the cruise lines. I've read of other private companies in the search on Tortola boards that do go to JVD.

  3. Smart-two shuttle (MCO TO PORT CANAVERAL and round trip) has been recommended by the hotel (Country Inn and Suites port Canaveral) that I have booked pre cruise. Has anyone used this new company? They are approx. 1 1/2 years old. The trip advisor reviews are excellent. Contran was my first choice but we are landing after 11:30 am and that is too late for them to transport us.

    Any advise please.

  4. I have booked our family of 8 (6 and 7 year old included) on the Fantasy for next year eastern Caribbean. Star Wars day at sea is not as yet on the itinerary for 2017. With it being on the western route I'm doubtful that it will be available on the eastern route. So I (along with my son, son in law and daughter all of the classic Star Wars era) would absolutely love to have it "in our face" as the OP says. Lucky for those who have this experience!

  5. What's the earliest port arrival time? I just did the online check in and got 9:30 (only two slots left, it said!). Did I do good?

I checked in a week ago and there were no slots left for 9:30 or 10:30. I was so disappointed as I wanted an early time slot. Yep, you did good.

  6. It appears that much of the NCL "negative de jour" has been that of the originally complimentary Margaritaville on the Escape is now an a la cart restaurant. While this is not any deal breaker for me (booked in January), it certainly has upset some who were taking a number of family members there. I respectfully get it, while expecting this to cost $0 when booking their cruise, this now can become expensive. I've read a comment by a CC : a "bait and switch". Wow, that's intense. This is obviously a business decision not a personal one.

Please make the most of your wonderful vacation.

  7. If you specify which hotel, that would help answer your question.

For example, some have DCL transfers available. The others depending on your party size maybe cheaper for a town car or limo or van. Some offer door to door baggage transfer if using DCL transfers.

If you can describe your situation as best as you can, that WILL get you the BEST and most accurate information someone can give you.

Unfortunately, your situation is vague at the moment.

I am considering a hotel on or very near Universal studios. Which hotels transfer to the hotel from MCO? (Medium price , please advise). I'm advised that there are hotels that will shuttle to Universal Studios(?). What form of transport to the port on the following day??

  8. The search engine has lead me to some very old posts, therfore I am reaching out to all CC's for any new advise. I would like to take the family to Universal Studios the day before we sail on the Disney Dream. We wil be flying into Orlando and will need any advise on HOW TO:

    MCO TO HOTEL

    HOTEL TO UNIVERSAL STUDIOS

    HOTEL TO PC.

I appreciate any advise for a family of 6 Adults and 2 children 6 and 7 yrs old.

  9. SALLY ( love the name...same as my mom's)

Thank you millions for the reviews. I can't wait to log in and read your "amazing adventures!!"

I want to purchase VIBE PASSES for my daughter and myself however we sail the end of January and I'm told it might be too cold up there. Any thoughts??

P.s. REMEMBER WHEN YOU ENTER THE CASINO....GOTTA HUNCH; BET A BUNCH

  11. I just booked entertainment on the escape @ 90 days out.

Hello Ciara01...from one Michigander to another. Thank you. I took the advise of the CruiseCritics and booked entertainment and dinning this morning! I did want to pre-book Tappas but it is not available. I am told that it is an a la cart and cannot be pre-booked. The same with Food Republic.

  12. In a couple of days, I will be at 90 days from sailing on the ESCAPE. A PCC has informed me that since it is on the ESCAPE; dining and entertainment can only be made 60 days ahead of the sailing date regardless of your cabin or suite category. Paying the entire cost, although it is well before the final payment due, has no bearing on this policy for this ship. I have without incident purchased a dining package and shore excursion.

I have taken him at his word. Correct?

  13. We stayed at the Courtyard by Marriot Downtown before our cruise on 8/22.

We arrived at 9:30am and our room was ready. It was a nice hotel and I would stay there again. The pool area is very nice with lounge chairs and tables. They have a Starbuks as well as a restaurant. We did not eat there so can't comment on the food. Everyone was very nice. There is a 24 hour CVS a block away as well as a Whole Foods. We ate breakfast at Whole Foods which was way less expensive than the hotel. They also had a larger variety of choices. It is close to the People Mover and Bayside Market. We paid approximately $169. There is a taxi stand right across the street. It cost $20.00 which included a very generous tip. This is what we would have paid using the hotel shuttle for four people.

It is better since you leave on your schedule and not theirs. We arrived at the port about 10:30am

Thank you so much Goofygirl! I need to be at the pier early and the shuttle will most likely not get me there on my time. (I'm booked for the precruise package and will try to change that). And your information about the surrounding area was very good to know.
