  1. Don, our friend booked an X cruise in the UK. Didn't get the best deal he could have due to a lack of homework and has been feeling the butt hurt ever since.

Check his posting history it speaks volumes. Some people just don't know how to enjoy themselves. :D

No one takes him seriously. ;)

Ow! You almost made me spill my drink laughing:') Fortunately, it was only coffee, not the glass of Pinot Noir with which I intend to reward myself for getting through a trying day without losing my temper:halo:

  2. We've previously not booked a Concierge cabin as we felt the price differential above our favoured SV cabins wasn't justified for the minimal additional perks. However, with a free upgrade for our coming cruise, a decent breakfast on the balcony was something we were looking forward to as well. :(

Same here. We’ll have our first Concierge cabin in June (on Silhouette). I booked it because it was the same price as a similar veranda cabin. We too have looked forward to a nicer breakfast on our veranda:(

  3. Depending on where you’re sailing, if you’re susceptible to motion sickness, you may want to consider what you’d do if you were assigned a forward cabin. In rough seas, you’ll feel the most motion in the forward cabins. Otherwise, I’d say the guarantee cabins can be a great value.

  4. Also, what do you like about concierge class? If I was going to save money I would book a Verandah., not concierge. The cabins are the same size and you eat in the same MDR.

Concierge cabins are larger than veranda cabins on M class ships. On occasion, concierge cabins are the same price as similarly located veranda cabins. That is why I myself booked my first Concierge cabin for my next cruise, on Silhouette. We will enjoy the footstools on the veranda, and the embarkation luncheon.

I would have preferred an Aqua cabin (despite our less than impressive introduction to the class on Summit last year, we’re willing to try again on an S class ship) or a sky suite (to try Luminae for the first time) but the prices were significantly higher than Concierge or Veranda cabins. Incidentally, except for the most incredibly disgusting Eggs Benedict I’ve ever encountered, we thought the food in Blu (though never warm enough) good to very good. I cannot say we thought the food itself, with the exception of the table side muesli, was better than that served in the MDR on Silhouette, Reflection and Millennium.

  5. I often use them as a blanket when I get cold at night. The plush ones are perfect for that!

That’s what I do too:D The plush ones are so large on me that they’re only useful as a layer over other clothing (to wear to and from Persian Gardens perhaps). DH finds them too large as well, but wearable.

  6. I was always an advocate of gradual yearly price increases and never taking anything away or downgrading services. I think most sensible people expect that prices will reasonably increase year to year and would rather see that happen then having fewer amenities or lower quality services.

Absolutely! That’s exactly what irritates me. During the past year, we’ve seen significant fare increases, significant automatic gratuity increases, non-refundable deposits as the norm (in the US), and a decrease in staff in popular venues. Increasing the cost to loyal or even frequent customers while decreasing value (thus increasing frustration) isn’t very wise. We’ve three cruises in the queue. The next one is on Silhouette, so I truly hope we don’t find long waits for everything on board, along with overworked, grumpy staff.

  7. Just got off Silhouette today. We found everything to be great. We had the best waiter, asst waiter, Khersing and Artem. Each night they would bring us extra entrees without asking. They even brought us each an extra lobster tail on Friday after we already ordered the Beef Wellington and a lobster tail (there were 4 of us). Last night, he brought us an order of the Gnocchi to share and after we finished our entrees (all Steak Diane), asked if we wanted another (we all declined except for my son, he opted for the Tilapia). Yes, there were green beans just about every night, but, hey, I like them. I know it depends on who you get but the waiters and food were fantastic.

I’m happy to see that you had a great experience! Was your wonderful wait staff in the MDR?

  8. Keep in mind that if you choose to book a room that will put you in the Main Dining Room and you choose Anytime dining, those tables are probably closer than those in Blu.

On Summit, tables for two near the windows were just as close together as the ones in the MDR. However, there were fewer tables for two nearly abutting one another than we found in the MDR, so more sense of space around smaller groupings of tables. In our very limited experience, people at adjacent tables were more likely to want to converse at dinner, but more focused on their own conversations at breakfast. Since we’re definitely less social BC (before coffee) this worked well for us;)

  9. Perhaps a better way to think of it, X is targeting the executive suite. You won’t find many laborers, contractors, retail clerks or hairdressers on board. Most of the guests are what I call Audi Upscale.

This is both incredibly offensive and completely inaccurate.

  10. Thank you so much to all who have offered sincere support and help in my search!! I have already done some research at your useful suggestions and have totally eliminated NCL. We are now considering X, MSC Yacht Club and Princess.

For those who made snarky comments, YOU'RE the disdainful ones. Reflect on that for today. Maybe you will feel happier tomorrow.

    Peace out!

Good luck with the search. Have fun spending the kids’ inheritance:D

  11. Seriously, folks, if you distain "mingling with the masses" then select a cruise line/ship which segregates passengers by class, as did the old ocean liners. Each "class," usually First, Second and Steerage, had its own areas of the ship to include restaurants, common areas, and pool (no pool in steerage). Didn't have to mix with "those people." The goods news, of course, is that some lines are returning to this type of segregation. Thankfully, the upscale/luxury lines don't segregate (yet) as the "mass market" ships/lines try to provide a sense of segregation for those who distain to mingle with the "masses." Faux luxury.

What is your problem? If you had nothing except snide generalizations to offer, why did you bother to post? It’s no wonder people lurk instead of daring to risk asking a question on boards that are meant to be helpful.

  12. Just disembarking this morning. Just need to say all was great. We loved the way Capt Peppas on his farewell announcement thanked us and also praised his crew. Have never heard that. Love this ship and plan to return. Room steward was Clifton and gotta say, all was spotless. Was seated for table for 2, without a wait,at various times at anytime dining. Just our experience 👍

Sounds great! Thanks for posting your experiences. We can’t wait to board her in June:cool::cool:

  13. I thought about that also and actually they make the rules so can confiscate them if they wish. Not allowed in US but the ship wasn't in the US.

Interesting. Do you know if that’s the case on all cruise lines when sailing outside the US waters?

I must say that I wouldn’t be standing that close to a brawl while trying to film it. My sense of self preservation (and DH preservation) is much more highly evolved than that of some of the people milling around the combat area!

  14. I’m certainly not impressed that Carnival allowed the worst of the intimidation and attacks to continue for THREE days before locking some of the perpetrators in their cabins and booting them off ASAP. As for offering pax 25% off coupons for a future cruise, well, I’d have a good time suggesting where they could stow that offer!

Also, what’s with the crew kicking & threatening victims and confiscating recording devices (and deleting images)? What right did they have to do so? Way to go Carnival. Impressive display all around.
