Sorry, but, as I said "I seem to recall". I say just under as we were discussing the different propeller configuration on some of the lifeboats. Regardless, it was on an outside deck which was what the OP's question was about.

I really want to say it was under, too, because it was claustrophobic almost and seemed to be blocking any breeze ... but I definitely could be wrong.  I guess I'll just have to book another cruise on her to find out definitively.  lol

edit:  nevermind, maybe just too much Puerto Rican rum.  I found the answer ... it's deck 4.  Damn, I was looking forward to booking her again! lol

  2. I like to sail for the ports, not necessarily the ship ... so personally I would go on the Magic having done the Horizon's itinerary before.

...although I just booked the Fascination for the ports and realized that the Fascination doesn't have movies under the stars...so, booo.

But then, I also liked the Breeze (Dream class) over the Vista (class).  🙂

Pools/Slides:    The pool was crowded but that is to be expected. We had a great time on the slides each day and depending on the time of day, there was almost no line.  (especially if you got on 1-2 hours early from a port)    I probably went on each slide 10+ times a day.

Does the Fascination have Dive-In movies?  I can't find any information about it, so I'm assuming it doesn't?

    Thanks  🙂

We loved our Celebrity Summit cruise out of San Juan when Carnival;s Valor was stationed there . Prices were low especially for the Valor .

We are looking at another San Juan cruise . It's going to be work , unlikely to succeed, convincing my DW to take an OV instead of a balcony . And yes Christy, OV's are much cheaper. When I fail to persuade her, it will probably be a balcony on the Summit again . I like Carnival but for a similar price , it's always going to be Celerity . Better ship and much better fellow passengers .

I keep thinking that we need to branch out to other cruise lines, but inevitably end up booking with Carnival ... still on a mission to become Platinum I suppose.  I hope you can convince DW!  🙂

Nice review, thanks for doing it.  I have not seen one of the Fascination in a really long time.   I once argued with some Carnival brass about why they put such an old ship in a 7 day cruise out of San Juan.  While I did not get an acceptable answer, the answer I did get was one of the themes of your review. It is a port intensive itinerary and the ship is secondary.  While that may be true, seeing much better ships doing 4 and 5 day cruises bug me....but I do get the point. That said, I digress thanks for the review.

We went on this itinerary in November 2014 when the Valor was still there (bigger ship) ... we had so many price drops that we ended up in a suite for less than $1,500 total.  So if I had my guess, they put a smaller ship out there because it's easier to fill up at a premium price.  I just booked the itinerary again this morning, and I'll just say it was more than $1,500 ... especially since balconies on that ship aren't easy to come by.  That's just my $.02.  🙂

I wish we only had a 9 hour drive. LOL It's ~20 hours when we sail out of Ft. Lauderdale or Miami. I like to at least make it to the FL/GA line (about 12 hrs) to stop for the night two days before the cruise. That puts us at our hotel around their check-in time the day before the cruise. I do all the driving myself, so that's why we stay overnight on the road. I've considered sharing wheel-time and driving straight through, but that's still a long haul. Even if we booked flights with irregular departure/arrival times to make it as cheap as possible, it's still a lot cheaper for us to drive. And I've always enjoyed making long drives. It's just not quite as easy on my body as it used to be. LOL If that's the sacrifice we have to make to cruise, so be it. 🙂

That IS a long drive!  Our home port is Galveston (4 hours), but on that particular cruise we decided we wanted to enjoy New Orleans also.  🙂
