  1. Thank you all!

I was looking on the NCL website, but maybe I was looking at a cruise that included a stop in Bermuda or possibly I was looking at 2015 sailings?

We aren't interested in RCCL because we know that they only have a five day Bermuda cruise.

We sailed many years ago on the NCL Dawn out of NYC to Bermuda and had a great cruise.

Looking for something similar, most likely in Sept. for DH 's birthday.

We are Platinum on Princess and have enjoyed cruising with that line for several years. They do not have any Bermuda/Caribbean cruises scheduled out of NYC, so it may be time to revisit NCL.

Good to hear that many of you enjoyed the Breakaway cruise!

  2. My DH and I are considering a cruise to Bermuda from our home port of NYC.

I thought the Breakaway had a seven day Bermuda cruise, staying at the Royal Dockyard for three days.

I checked the NCL website for a September 2014 cruise and it seemed to indicate a five day cruise roundtrip from NYC with a one day stop in Bermuda. Does anyone have information that would clarify if the Breakaway has a seven day cruise to Bermuda ?

    Thanks !

  3. Iagree with Roses2.

The majority of those passengers who respect the Princess policies, should speak to staff in management positions regarding behavior that goes against the policies.

This refers to dress codes,no smoking on balconies or rowdy behavior in public places on the ship.

Why is it that so much of society today is led by the lowest common denominator?

People who respect manners and rules should decide to speak up !

As to a cruise line that has definite regulations regarding dress codes ,I might suggest Cunard where passengers are aaked to remain in formal dress for the evening.

At least ,it was that way when we sailed on the QM2 a few years ago.

At leaast that was Cunard's policy a few years ago when we sailed on the QM2.

  4. Since my DH and I celebrated our honeymoon at a Bermuda resort over thirty years ago,we have enjoyed that beautiful island eight times.

Our travel consisted of both cruises and resort stays.

Our last cruise was on Celebrity Summit out of Bayone,NJ.

I agree with the other poster that the Summit was our least favorite cruise ship.

It needed a major renovation. We also found that both the crew and passengers that we came across to be not friendly or outgoing.

We did sail in NCL about twenty years ago out of NYC and found that cruise to be enjoyable.

HAL and Azarama used to dock in Hamilton, but both lines gave discontinued sailing to Bermuda.

When Princess was offering the Caribbean run out of Brooklyn, we choose that cruise two years in a row, primarily because one of the ports was Bermuda.

I have mentioned putting a cruise to Bermuda for a Princess ship to various staff.including a captain!

We would LOVE a Bermuda cruise

  5. You can order room service breakfast and set it up on your balcony.

My DH and I do this everyday when we are on a cruise.

True, the choices are limited-no hot dishes, but cereal, fruit and yougurt are fine for us.

We then leave the tray for the steward or room service to take care of when we leave the cabin in the morning.

We try to avoid the buffet at all costs in the morning.

It is too busy and perhaps the food may be too tempting!

Friends surprised us with a balcony breakfast for our twenty-fifth anniversary several years ago.

It was a great surprise-but as others have said, there is so much food for two people!

We saved some for tea time in the afternoon. That can also be enjoyed on the balcony.

Call room service for tea/coffee and some cookies or pastries.

    Enjoy the balcony!

  6. Hello Norris

I have enjoyed your cruise review ,following along with you and Carol as you enjoyed your vacation.

The photos and notes were informative for first time Princess cruisers and gave Princess veterans an opportunity to recall past cruises.Your humor also added to my reading enjoyment!

My husband and I sailed on the Caribbean Princess several times and enjoyed those cruises.

I am pleased to see from your photos that the ship

    is still in good shape.

I wish you and Carol many more bon voyages!

  7. Many of us do not want to think of a cruise ending, but being informed ahead of time about disembarkation helps with the transition.

We have never felt rushed by a steward on Princess.

We did notice on a Celebrity cruise , the steward had put the linen to change the bed for the new occupants in our cabin the day before disembarkation.

I took that as his way of being organized for turnaround day.

The stewards on Princess seem to have more cabins assigned to them than on cruises in the past few years.

Recently on the Crown , we had an efficent steward, but he did not seem to have extra time to chat as past stewards had done.

He said he had nineteen cabins under his care. That seemed a lot to me.

We always try to leave a neat cabin.

I usually make sure the hangers are in the same direction

and I seperate the clip hangers and regular hanges on the rod in the closet.

Maybe a bit much, but I think it may help somewhat.

Thoughtfulness on both the stewards' and the passengers' parts can help add to tbe enjoyment of a cruise.

  8. My apology ,Tim,

    for misspelling Terri's name.

    I should have checked that.

I am used to writing my cousin's name which is spelled Terry.

My maiden name could be pronounced several ways and I understand your feeling when her name is not spelled correctly.

As a newcomer to the Princess forum,I thought its'purpose was to give information or pose questions about the cruises.

You seem to have quite a following on CC.

Have you considered writing a blog or as someone suggested creating a web site as a venue for your writing?

Perhaps you could tie in your family life and present ministry experiences on such communication forums. Just a thought!

Your thoughtful ideas for surprising Terri and the gift of the charms for her bracelet may inspire other spouses and significant others to be thoughtful as well. Most of us could benefit from that.

  9. So, now that the Hawaiian cruise is over ,Tim, when are you planning your next cruise?

You entitled your thread using the words,"lessons learned".

I am wondering if some of your experiences on this cruise have given you some thoughts on how you would arrange your next vacation?Perhaps you would change a few things ?

For example, you and Terry seemed to be rushing about on the cruise from place to place ,activity to activity.

If you choose to cruise again, would you keep the same pace or perhaps relax a bit more?

Would you give thought to planning port visits a bit more carefully than you did for the Hawaiian ports? For example, Lahaina is an interesting seaport town.

There are beautiful beaches nearby with hotels that serve lovely breakfasts and offer day passes within a short driving distance from Lahaina. Some preplanning may have made your visit to Maui more enjoyable, relaxing and interesting.

While I compliment your thoughtfulness in all the pre cruise clues presented to your wife and the charm bracelet that you carefully created for her,I had to wonder how she felt about some of the things you mentioned in your posts.

Terry must be an extrordinary person with the gifts of patience, acceptance and understanding.

I am not certain that I would appreciate sleeping in a van the night before a cruise, going without breakfast (at least having some coffee)before a long port visit andhelping to carry so many bags off the ship without the aid of a porter.

When you cruise next time, I hope that you may consider her comfort level when you are considering the vacation budget.

Also, while I appreciated your insights into the cruise experience and the sights of Hawaii,

I was a little uncomfortable reading about some of your alone time with Terry.

I am not sure that such information was needed to give CCreaders information about the Golden Princess cruise to Hawaii. TMI ,Tim!

You do have a knack for story telling and you might want to persue writing as a hobby or other career.

But,it seems that your info regarding this cruise as it interests CCreaders is coming to a close.

You will just have to begin planning another vacation for Terry and you.

Perhaps for her next big birthday or an anniversary?

Sincere good wishes for another bon voyage in your near future!

  10. Hello Compozer-

Hope your cruise is going well.

A note about cancel for any reason insurance.

We had Platinum Princess insurance and thought we could cancel for any reason.

Yes, we could cancel, but fare would not be refunded. It would be credited toward a future cruise.

It would have been refunded if it had been for a medical reason.

I suggest to anyone who has this coverage to check the fine print.

    Happy holidays!

  11. I posted a thread about this two days ago. The dispensers were put in on the Crown during the Dec.7th cruise. The product left my hair so tangled,it took quite a bit of efforrt to comb out the tangles. I understand that the use iof the dispensers cuts the amount of trash and it is environmentally responsible , but I will pack my own shampoo and conditioner in the future.

  12. My DH and I just returned home from the Dec. 7th cruise on the Crown to the Southern Caribbean.

We enjoyed the cruise and I will be posting a review soon.

I wanted to mention here that the shampoo/conditioner products were changed on this cruise.

For the first two days,we were given the individual bottles of shampoo ,conditioner and lotion.

For the rest of the cruise, a pump bottle container was placed in the shower with a shampoo -conditioner product.

This product did not work for me. After using it, my hair was so tangled that it took a lot of effort to get all the tangles out so I could blow dry my hair.

So, I am giving a head's up -no pun intended- to suggest that passengers should bring their own shampoo and conditioner.

I understand that replacing all the bottles with one large container saves on the amount of trash and is a positive change for the environment ,but the product itself

    is not that effective.

  13. My DH and Injust returned from our third cruise on the Crown.

We thought the ship was in good shape considering the age of it and constant use by thousands of passengers.

The crew was exceptional! The members who we met were smiling, conversing with us and couldn 't do enough for us.

When we met Captain Stenzel at the cocktail party, I mentioned to him that he had an excellent staff onboard.

We were in cabin B437-a mid-ship balcony cabin.

We had no issues with the AC or the toilet.

However, we were mindful of not over-filling the toilet with too much paper.

The Captain spoke about being mindful of the toilet use at the muster drill.

With passenger cooperation, the situations that have been reported in previous posts/reviews could be eleviated.

    Enjoy your cruise!

What is better than a vacation where you don't have household chores or cooking to do?

The crew will take good care if you and hopefully the weather will be warm and sunny.

    Bon Voysge!
