My brother probably got it from a younger person that passed it to him while he was working.

He just died at the age of 67.   He is the 56th person to die in Washington State.

  2. My Doctor cancelled my appointment for routine blood work.  At the moment she is only treating urgent care patients.  I doubt seriously that she will take the time to sign this idiotic letter, even if her insurance would allow her to take on the  liability.  I have 12 Royal Caribbean cruises booked at the moment, plus airfare, hotels etc...I doubt very many doctors would be willing to sign it.  I have no medical issues, work out daily, and can easily keep up with people 20 years younger than me.  I think they are leaving themselves open for some age discrimination lawsuits if they don't rethink this.  Unless they require every single passenger, regardless of age, to have this letter than they are  definitely discriminating based on an arbitrary number.

  3. I have gone solo out of Galveston several times on Liberty of the Seas. It is a beautiful ship with lots of activities. I never really look for solo activities. I get involved in the CC roll call and socialize with all ages on board whether they are solo or couples. Trivia is another activity that is great for meeting people.

I have made many cruise friends that I stay in touch with. I very often find myself on another cruise with them.

    Enjoy your cruise.

  4. Perhaps you are not aware but pinnacle inductees have the option to get a tattoo instead of the pin. You simply contact Crown and Anchor and they will forward you the approved tattoo design along with a voucher that you take down to your local tattoo parlor. The body location of the tattoo is a matter of individual preference.

I think I will pass on the tattoo, but that is a funny concept. I now have this terrible mental picture of people unveiling their tattoos to gain access to the lounge.

  5. I will turn Diamond Plus in December on the Liberty. I have never worn any of my pins as I worked my way up. But if I ever reach Pinnacle, I will probably wear my pin, night and day, in the shower, while I sleep. Some of the nicest people I have met on board are Pinnacles.

  6. I sailed solo out of Galveston in August. Stayed at the Hampton Inn near Houston Hobby. Hotel shuttle picked me up, took me to the hotel, and the next morning took me back to the airport luggage area. Walked in the door, was loaded onto to RCI shuttle and off to the ship. Very easy. Cost was somewhere around $60 round trip. Hotel was around $100. Have booked exactly the same thing for next May.

  7. I live in Mexico. Almost any Mexican Bank ATM will accept your card. I normally take out 6000 pesos at a time. With the peso approaching 21 to the dollar, you will save money by using pesos. Many businesses are still using a 17 or 18 to the dollar exchange, so it is to your advantage to buy the pesos. I never use my dollars in Mexico. If you use your credit card, it will be charged at whatever the exchange rate is at the time of purchase.

    Hope this helps.

  8. I book several cruises a year and have referred my TA to all my friends. I don't send gifts to my Doctor or my Dentist or any other professionals who serve me. My TA always has a nice obc waiting for me in my cabin. And I am happy that she gets commissions every time I book and also when my friends book with her.

  9. I usually do anytime dining when traveling with a friend, but have always done traditional when traveling solo. However, since they changed the early dining to 5:30, it doesn't allow me to use the Diamond or Elite lounge. Am considering trying anytime alone, but definitely would want to share a table. I have a b2b in August, thinking I might try one week anytime and see how it goes. Opinions or experiences welcome.

  10. I am booked for early traditional, but that 5:30 time cuts into my time in the Elite Lounge. When I cruise with friends, I usually do anytime. Have never done that on my solo cruises....but thinking about giving it a try this time.

  11. I booked a 15 day round trip from San Francisco to Hawaii on the Grand, sailing the day before Thanksgiving.

Caught a super sale about 6 weeks ago. Inside was $1799 per person double and only $1899 solo. Plus Princess was giving a $300 obc, my agent gave me $85, and I got $75 for my fcc....total obc $460. total cost including taxes and port charges $2182. Same cabin is now just under $4300 and no obc from Princess. Booked it as fast as I could call my agent.

Deals are still out there, but sometimes they don't last very long. I check almost every day.

  12. After experimenting on my first solo cruises, I found that traditional works best for me. So much easier to have the same tablemates every night. That way I only have to explain once that I am traveling solo by choice. I have only had to ask to change tables once. There was a lady at my table who thought dinner conversation consisted of describing the various lizards, birds and mice her cat brought to her. Yuck.

  13. This is my first cruise with Celebrity, I have cruised many times with 5 other lines and have never experienced anything even close to this. For 3 weeks the message was that the system could not access my reservation at the moment. Then yesterday it changed, the new message tells me that the reservation number is incorrect. I find this unbelievable since the reservation number is displayed on the screen, I did not enter it. I think maybe Celebrity needs to bring in a 10 year old geek to fix their site. Very frustrating. I will be sailing for 29 days this cruise, have 14 tours booked, none through their lousy site, so they lost all that revenue from me. Thank goodness for Cruise Critic members organizing private tours.

  14. My first solo was a 15 day roundtrip from San Francisco to Hawaii. Loved it. Having the cabin all to myself was such a treat. I have been a widow for 16 years and find that I really need at least some "me" time every day. Met many nice people aboard. Had so much fun, that I did a 12 day solo cruise to the Caribbean just 3 months later. again, I enjoyed it very much.
