  1. I, too, am surprised that so many crew are still stranded on ships. It disheartening (but perhaps unsurprising) that not all cruiselines and doing the right thing by their crew.
  2. The Grafton Jacaranda Festival has been cancelled this year due to, you guessed it, COVID-19 restrictions. The way the announcement was worded was quite funny. It sounded like the committee had arranged for the trees to still flower this year even though the festival isn't happening. Hopfully the festival can happen next year and hopefully we can be Cruising by then also. DW & I were supposed to be in the USA now, getting reading for our Alaskan cruise and our TransPacific. ☹️ Maybe next year or even the year after.
  3. We have recently moved to Grafton! Tell me more about this milk bar, please.
  4. That's an incredible output! After a few days experimenting with different designs, DW & I started production last night and have 36 partially completed masks. Unfortunately with moving house recently we downsized to one sewing machine. So one of us cuts or folds and presses seams while the other sews. And I woke up this morning with a brainwave of how to cut out an unnecessary step.
  5. I was chatting with a friend online the other day. He had a cruise for the family booked with Carnival which was cancelled due to the pandemic. They offered a full refund or 100% FCC plus $900 OBC. He was going to take the FCC until he discovered that when he rebooks he has to pay $500 deposit before they will apply his FCC. Carnival already has $4,000 of his money but wants another $500 to secure his booking! He decided to take the refund instead but hasn’t received it yet. Then yesterday afternoon... I was on another call when someone tried to ring. I checked my voice mail
  6. Can anyone enlighten me as to what various cruise lines are currently offering in terms of refunds if you change your mind and want to cancel a booking during this period of uncertainty. RCI seem to be offering the ability to cancel up to 48 hours before sailing and receive a full refund in the form of a FCC. At this stage this is valid for bookings made by the end of September 2020 for sailings until the end of April 2022. FCC valid for 12 months after the date you cancel or until the end of 2021, whichever is later. Carnival does not appear to be so generous. Cancel
  7. There’s some tempting prices being offered by cruiselines at the moment but I'm not convinced that the cruises will actually take place. I can't see Australian cruising recommencing before the end of the year and I reckon even 2021 looks doubtful. Maybe we'll have to wait until 2022 to sail again! 😱
  8. Yes, we used the CAT Bus when we were there earlier this year.
  9. The Perth Mint could be another option. We enjoyed our time there.
  10. DOH! 🤦‍♂️ How did I miss that! Yes, it’s Serenade of the Seas. It was advertised on that other social media. I didn’t price check with the cruise line or with any other TA.

  14. I’ve seen some good deals on Carnival Splendor to the islands out of Sydney including: 3/4/20 - 7 nights - $679pp 27/4/20 - 10 nights - $819pp 11/5/20 - 9 nights - $849pp 20/5/20 - 8 nights - $699pp 9/6/20 - 10 nights - $869pp All of the above prices are per person for a twin interior cabin.
  15. I’m reminded of our first cruise on Voyager OTS. DW & I were walking along the Royal Promenade and a watch in a shop window caught my eye. I wasn’t in the market for a new watch but it was a very nice looking men's watch and very reasonably priced at $125. I had a second look and realised I’d misread the price tag. It was actually $125,000. 😱 And US Dollars at that! Needless to say we kept walking. I decided that if I had that sort of money to spend on a watch I’d employ someone to walk 3 paces behind me to tell me the time when I asked!
