We will be flying out of Amsterdam after a cruise in mid August and decided not to fly home day we disembark. Ships do sometimes get delayed and most of the flights home for us departed before noon. We will spend the night at an airport hotel - plan to drop off the bags and take the train into downtown for the day.

We did a NE cruise on HAL years ago and got off the ship for lobster lunches almost every day!

Our last one on her, not her last one!

We did 2 Northern Europe cruises on her - one being the last cruise pre-pandemic. I really enjoyed being aboard. There was a port in Iceland that was usually a tender port but the sea was calm and the captain decided to take her in- with just a couple of feet to spare. It apparently was the largest ship to dock there and the captain was so excited! Sailing on the Nieuw Amsterdam in February b/c we had to use a deposit before we lost it, and Azamara in August. I also love the Masdam- hate to go bigger than that. Sandy

While b'fast in the Pinnacle Grill is nice (the upgrade fairy once gifted us a Neptune Suite), it seems it really depends on the ship/itinerary if the extra $25 pp cost (under 13 days) is worth it. IMHO, the best benefit is the cabin upgrade, but I can't tell if you book a top price veranda cabin, say, would they bump you to the next category ( a suite?) - you really would have to do the math, or have a TA who would.
