  1. As one final observation for the evening, as we left the dock in Vigo, Spain, the ship stopped dead in the water. We noted 3 engineers and an officer in a station up in the mast with sighting equipment. We then started a verrrrryyyyy slow rotation. After about 45 min, the Captain came on the PA to say that due to the extensive new metal work done in dry dock, they needed to recalibrate their magnetic compass to back up the newer gyro and gps systems. After another 45 min we got underway.

By this time, we were in Cagney's seated at the aft windows. We felt the ship's props come up to full power with a lot of shaking and rattling in the dining room. Then with an even greater shaking (now with dishes dancing only the tables) we execute an emergency stop (props in full reverse). Dead in the water again for 20 mins.

The restaurant manger said that they were taking advantage of the glassy waters in Vigo bay to run more tests.

You would think captain might have announced it over the PA to prevent panic! :)

  2. As a male in my mid-twenties I think NCL fits my style greatly. The only things that I will for sure miss are the classical music onboard, and dressing up. I love formal nights, ever since I cruised as a little one the formal nights were the best for me. Cruising used to be so luxurious and exclusive, that's why dressing up used to be great.

you can still dress up - some people dress up every night, others just on dress up or not night, and others not at all. I like the fact cruising is becoming less formal, as its not everyones cup of tea - its why I like freestyle NCL - anything goes as long as its not too casual in the posher restaurants.

  3. Now that the dry dock is complete, and the Epic is ready to sail back to Barcelona, time to board all the passengers in Southampton.

Hmmm. Still only a single, narrow, steep gangway. After leaving the waiting area, we were led through the baggage hall dodging carts to the one and only gangway onto the ship.

I wouldn't be surprised if it is to do with costs of staffing the terminal for NCL, as NCL don't usually embark at Southampton... and all the other ships manage just fine...

  4. Bliss seems a lot more 'loungy' to me. I always felt that a venue of this nature was missing from the EPIC. You never know, they may use the Cavern Club as a late night dancing venue?

Looks like bliss is my alternative to the atrium for lounging. :)
