I use to just fill out the form, but for the last cruise I booked, I called when I needed my rate adjusted... I guess I feel more comfortable speaking to someone and getting immediate results.

^^^ getupgo this link has everything labeled... The Taste Bar is located on Deck 5 Aft in the Ocean Plaza area... sandwiched btw the JavaBlue Cafe and the Alchemy Bar...
This review is AMAZING btw... detailed and filled with so much info. THANK YOU for doing this! I'm taking this same itinerary in May and looking forward to it! My group and I are planning just 2 excursions and 2 beach days... trying not to book through the cruise line... I've seen some good suggestions :)

^^^ this guy (mattjs) stayed in an aft balcony cabin on deck 5... there are also pictures... I will be staying in an OV on deck 5 in May so I have been looking for reviews about these cabins as well... I also liked the fact that the newer cabins have a fridge in them :D
I do not recall mattjs complaining about any noise from the elevators or bar area... hope this helps! :)

John Heald usually posts the CD schedule on his blog, but the most recent schedule only goes up til February... I'm guessing he will release the next schedule soon... I would like to know too... hoping Jamie will be on my cruise but I won't know for sure until he posts the updated schedule...
Everyone keeps saying how amazing she is and I would love to be on one of her sail dates before she leaves the ship...

GAPearl is awesome at reviews! I always have the urge to book another cruise after reading one of hers :)

^^^ this is a link from a Sunshine OV on deck 5... the windows are big enough for a person to sit in :)

You can take them with you....just bring them back;). Your steward will replace them as needed, but there is also a towel exchange kiosk on the Lido deck. We normally make a pit stop there to change them out after coming back from the beach so we don't get sand all over the room.
^^^This.
I always take one off if I book a water based excursion... Just remember to bring it back :)

Thank you sooo much for the in depth comparison of this ship! I love seeing things like this b/c I tend to forget how things were after such a dramatic 'face lift'... It's really neat to see how the decks have changed. I will be sailing on the Sunshine in less than 3 months in one of her newer deck 5 OV cabins. I'm one of those people that like to know the ins and outs before sailing...
This was just what I needed! So again, thank you for taking the time to do this :)

Sailed on a Halloween cruise back in 2012 and that was one of the most fun cruises!!! Most of my party wore costumes but there were a few that decided not to dress up and that's okay too. Everyone had a great time! There was a huge costume deck party. You didn't have to dress up to go to it either... It was fun seeing everyone really get into it :)

Does anyone know if we have 5 people going if we can book connecting oceanview rooms that are meant for 3 people in one and 3 in another? Someone on another site said you had to have 6 to book these but no connecting rooms have 3 and 2.
Depends on the cruise and sail date... on one of my cruises, we were able to do that but on the last cruise I booked, Carnival had some of the rooms locked to where you could not book the cabin unless they were filled to capacity.
When I spoke with that planner, they told me sometimes they open up those rooms to anyone when they get closer to the sail date.
But like I said, it all depends on the ship and sail date... Doesn't hurt to call and ask :)

Nope, all that does is adjust your cruise rate... OR if you paid in full already, they give you an OBC
I don't know if things are different if you booked a guarantee cabin though...

If you choose self assist do you have to get off early or can you hang back and leave at a later time?
I always choose self assist but then I just grab my bags and head down to grab breakfast in the dinning room... You don't have to get off the ship right away...

Hi! We stayed in an Aft Balcony on deck five this past December. We loved the location and it was very quiet.
Our door was visible from the elevator bank, but we heard neither elevator nor Ocean Plaza noise. These cabins were newly added during the conversion and were pristine.
One of the perks of this location is the small breakfast buffet they open in the Taste Bar. Seating is plentiful and far less chaotic than the lido.
Our cabin steward was great. Twice I had to run back to the room to get something and they had already tidied the room.
The deck five cabins seemed to be one of the best experiments on the Sunshine. I imagine the new Havana class on the Vista will have a similar feel.
Thank you so much for all the great info! :D

On every cruise, someone from my party always brings a pack of Uno cards... we all gather on the Lido deck [in the shade] and play Uno, eat, drink, and people watch :) Always a fun time!

Hello Everyone :)
I have looked at a few sites and other forums on here to try and find out as much as I could before booking one of these cabins but most of what I see is about the Ocean Plaza, RedFrog Pub, Liquid Lounge, etc.
I booked an OV on deck 5 [category 6D] on the Sunshine for their May 9th Western Caribbean cruise a few days ago and I had a few questions...
I normally book OV rooms on deck 2 [mids] so these are pretty unique in location. How are the noise levels??? I have also never stayed in a connecting stateroom or aft and I'm wondering about the sound and movement of the ship... I personally am not worried about the noise levels b/c I wear earplugs on cruises, but I am just trying to make sure it won't be an issue for my cabin mates. Also, how were your room stewards? Just making sure we have nothing to worry about.
Any others that have stayed in these rooms on here??? Any info is greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance for your help :) Super excited for this cruise!

^^^That PDF should tell you what cabin category you are in... all of the rooms are color coded and they 'key' is up top... hope this is what you are looking for :)
As far as whether or not it's better to book on a higher or lower deck/category... that depends on what is important to the person booking... I like being close to elevators and higher than the dining room, so I always try to book a cabin between deck 5 and 8...
For price drops, I'm not sure what Carnival's criteria is on what cabins get them... It might differ from ship to ship and could also depend on that specific sailing...

My PVP was calling me every day for like 3 weeks straight. During one of our conversations, I specifically gave her a day and time to get back with me [like a week later] b/c there were people in my group that were not ready to book yet [we all wanted to book together]...
She proceeds to call me the very next day! Luckily, I screen my phone calls but at this point, I was kinda annoyed b/c I we obviously would not be ready to book. And come to think of it, she kept telling me several cabins on a certain deck [that I had been eyeballing for a while in my mock bookings] were no longer available. And yeah, they are all still available.
Maybe she was told to push some of the cabins on a different deck or something, I don't know. But anyways, to get her to quit calling so often, I shot her a quick email making sure she knew I would be booking the following week. I was not rude or anything b/c I don't believe anyone needs to be that way to get their point across. Haven't heard from her since :D I'm probably not going to book with her though...

Unfortunately, no. The only ships with Fish & Chips are the ships in the Conquest class (Conquest, Glory, Valor, Liberty, Freedom)
I wish it did though! :)

I'm sure you haven't seen these, but here are 2 threads on this topic from the end of last month...

On my first cruise, my group chose the early seating. We only made it to the first night's dinner b/c by the time we got back on the ship, we did not want to rush for dinner. Because of this, I will always choose the late seating. I have plenty of time to sneak a Guy's burger, shower, and get ready to stuff my face :) I am a bit of a night owl anyways so eating after 8 o'clock agrees with me :)

I wonder if it is one bottle for everyone in the room, or a bottle for each VIFP member in the room? Anyone know?
It's one bottle for each VIFP member in the cabin... so if there are 3ppl in the cabin, there will be 3 bottles of water in the cabin...

I personally have spoiled myself by the 2.0 upgrades and I would not sail on a ship that does not have the upgrades if I am sailing for 5 days or longer. I am obsessed with Guy's Burgers, Blue Iguana Cantina and the Red Frog Rum Bars so MY cruise experience would be lacking if those things were not on the ship.
My parents sailed on the Valor in late October and they LOVED it! They said the ship had some minor wear and tear since it has not been dry-docked in a while, but that did not effect their cruise experience at all... The crew was super friendly and they also said other shipmates were raving about the ship as well... Not once did they complain of dirty cabins or terrible food.
It is totally up to the individual as to what you can live with [or without]. I wouldn't worry about the negative reviews. I always try to go on vacation with an open mind so my opinions aren't swayed one way or another. Have fun on your B2B! :)
Sofa Bed vs. Upper
in Carnival Cruise Lines
Posted · Edited by bajangoddess82
I've slept on both and yes, they're pretty much the same size but it is so much more convenient to sleep on the sofa bed... I didn't think either were uncomfortable but, even though I'm only 5'8, I still kinda had a hard time getting up and down off of the upper... that ladder was just annoying!
If you can get a cabin with a sofa bed instead, I would go for it :)
*I should add that the sofa beds I've slept on were in OV cabins so I don't know if that makes a difference...
