  1. I believe there is a reason there is only one plug per cabin and that if there are lots of folks bringing power strips and plugging in lots of electronics, we're just inviting disaster. On my 2nd Miracle cruise, we had an aft balcony. Coming down the hallway one day, we could SMELL that "electrical fire" smell! Turned the corner and there were three men in full fire-fighting gear peering into an electrical closet across from our cabin (which was next door to a laundry room).

    YIKES!

Personally, fire on a cruise ship is not something I look forward to!

I bought a 3 plug, 2 USB port surge protector. It did NOT fit in the plug on Fantasy because of the plug location and mine doesn't have a swivel. It DID fit into the plug on Conquest.

I unplugged it whenever it was not in use. I absolutely would not leave something plugged in when I was not there.

I've sailed with 3 females in a cabin, all with hair dryers, curling irons, phones, and cameras and we've managed with one plug. It can be done.

I just don't want to be the person who causes the electrical fire that kills us. And I hope the rest of you feel the same way!

Yes I agree, the responsible thing to do is to unplug it when not in use and unplug it when no one is in the cabin. Unfortunately some are not as cautious as others...

  2. For the poster who originally suggested the Belkin here, remember, that any plug and outlet that has 3 prongs is grounded. What you are probably referring to is surge suppression, but surge suppressors have no use onboard ships, and generally are why power strips and multi-outlets like this are taken.

Yes you are right, Surge suppression... really never knew there was a difference :) Thank you so much for clarifying!

I only use it to charge my cell (and my cabin mates as well) and cameras at night anyways. I don't overload it w/ computers, tablets or major objects of the like... Still never had it taken from my carry-on and I don't even try and hide it... So until they do confiscate it, I shall continue to pack it...

  3. I use cash now, but previously used a debit card. Yes, there is generally a hold or pending on your account for a few days after a cruise. That hold can mess you up if your funds are low and you want to make purchases or pay a bill.

^^^ Me too! On my first cruise I used my debit card for my S&S account. I really don't remember if there was ever a hold on it. I don't want to risk the fees anymore so now I just use cash. It must just depend on which bank you have...

  4. I have never had a problem drinking the water on the ships... tastes just fine to me. There are some that say too much sodium is left in it after the reverse osmosis process... not enough to where you can taste the sodium, but enough to where they start to retain water and their legs start to swell. Just depends on the person I guess...

  5. my cruise friends and I were talking this evening about our upcoming cruise on the Glory. I have a room booked for 3 and currently have the bedding with 2 twins and a couch. I know we all think we would prefer the bed, but for those of you that have experienced this. do you think the bed or the couch is more comfortable for sleeping? any ship you have been on is fine, even greater if you know about the Glory first hand!!!!

On my last cruise with Carnival [Freedom/sister ship] I stayed in a cabin for 3... I chose to sleep on the sofa bed and had no problems with it... Slept like a baby and it was very comfortable

We're doing three in a room for the first time on the Breeze in June. Are the couches sleeper sofas or do they just take off the back cushions to sleep?

The couches are not sleepers... they do just take the back cushions off of it and make it into a bed... seems to be about the same size as their twin beds though - and still super comfy :)

  6. I've been on the Freedom and loved it buuuttttt... that $800 could be spent on excursions, shopping or whatever... Like previous posters have said, they are both Conquest class ships so it's a wash there. I would go with the Glory since it has one less sea day and it's cheaper. And you get to visit Carnival's private island which should be cool.

  7. The MDR is very laid back so for me, I like the buffet for atmosphere... I like the egg white omelets with a little ham and a lot of cheese with corned beef hash and hash browns... and then a drizzle EVERYTHING in maple syrup :D

I can't wait 'till May. This will be my first time trying the Punchliner's Brunch menu. Might find a 'new favorite' :o

  8. Had the same one taken in jax....now I bring and old school cord splitter. They took my belkin but ignored the booze!

Yeah... I've always packed my Belkin in my carry-on on all of my cruises and I've never had mine taken... Maybe it depends on the port

I saw one in another thread. So many others recommended this little gem... Belkin 3-Outlet Surge Protector with USB Charger

it has 3 plugs and 2 USB ports... I never cruise without this! It is sooo compact and it is grounded. I have never had this confiscated. You can also find this on Amazon or at Walmart. I purchased mine from Home Depot for less than $12.

  10. It depends on the length of the cruise but I always try to carry on my own luggage. I had a cabin mate once that didn't receive his luggage until well after dinner (late seating) and he was stressing the entire time... I don't mind toting around my own bags... no big deal for me :) Most of the time, I get on the ship around the same time the rooms open up anyways so I don't have my bags for long... but to each their own...

  11. Like the other posters have stated, yeah you have to carry it on. It's not a big deal... I started doing this b/c I am a very picky soda drinker. I will only drink Dr. Pepper :) I got a cheap/light weight luggage cart from Target to help me tote my carry-on, water, and soda. Saves a bunch of money!
