  1. Dan, we are in the same boat. I’m curious how the people at the port will handle if he tests positive with antigen 2 days before sailing.  I thought the Healthy Sail questionnaire asks if u have tested positive in the last 2 weeks. If so, and if you answer “yes” to that, but also have your positive PCR from 11+ days ago along with the CoR... I’m just wondering if that will cause a problem at the port. It shouldn’t, but....

Having a positive right before sailing will certainly catch their attention, even if it’s expected because you tested positive 11+ days ago. Guess it depends on how well the port staff is trained.

You'll find this to be true in many hotels in Rome. Rooms in the "original" hotel building often are not large enough to accommodate more than two people. Triples or more may be in an annex building nearby. I don't know what differences there may be in the rooms in the annex, but it sounds like it has its own rooftop terrace with a good view and that the breakfast is still given at the main hotel. Reading this review may be helpful:

An interior view would usually mean one facing an interior courtyard, rather than facing outward toward the street.

Wow!  You are amazing!  I’ve searched and searched and couldn’t find a good description... but you did!!  Thanks to you I feel less overwhelmed and super excited to explore this city. Thank you so much!

  3. Cruisemom42, I reached out to Hotel Smeraldo. Looks like triple rooms are not in main building, but in a Parione. They described the Parione as “the fabric just in front of the main building”.  Do you have any thoughts or insight on this?  Would you think it’s the same quality as main building? I believe it was this hotel that said the view was “interior”... not sure what that means... Any thoughts?

  4. Thank you so much, cruisemom42, for taking the time to map out the lay of the land, and giving such great descriptions of the area!!  It can be overwhelming and you have been extremely helpful!  I cannot wait to visit this amazing city!!

About a year before our Mediterranean cruise, we purchased a Rick Steves book on Italy and the Mediterranean. It really helped us in deciding where we wanted our hotel.

    Great idea. Ordering today!  Thanks!

Have not stayed there yet but I have it booked for May. I chose it for the location because we particularly want to visit the Colosseum. The owner is very responsive and helpul so I have a good feeling about it. Hopefully that will turn out to be correct. I booked direct on their website.

Thank you. It looks nice and price works, but I cannot tell if it’s in the middle of things...or a little further off the path. I, too, like that it’s close to Colosseum... just am not familiar enough with Rome to know abt location of the other historical attractions to this hotel. Cruise was just moved from beginning in Venice... to now Rome, so the research begins all over again. LOL

Anyone who is Prime with the casino, can you tell me more? This cruise we have the drink package so the free drinks don't matter, but, I'm guessing only I'm able to get the free drinks in the casino and not my wife even though we have the same seapass card? Is the internet discount a true discount or a Royal Caribbean discount? How do you go about taking advantage of the discounted internet? Lastly, being diamond, and say we didn't get the drink package, I'm assuming the casino drinks being prime wouldn't count towards our four each?

Congrats on the handpay!!  Sounds like you are having a blast!  I just reached Prime a couple months ago.  I'm curious abt the internet discount, as well.  One thing I DID learn... the free drinks in the casino is only when the casino is open.  There are times that the casino bar will open a few hours earlier than the games. I think this happened when we were in port somewhere.  Anyway, when this happens you will not get free Prime drinks.  The casino must be open (games open) as well.  We didn't realize this initially, so we used our Diamond vouchers for the casino bar until the casino actually opened.  Prime drinks do not count against your Diamond vouchers.  Please note, you will need cash for tips as Diamond vouchers and Prime drinks do not include tips for the servers, and they have never given receipts to add the tips to.

We are trying our first cruise without the drink package, on the Allure in a few weeks.  I'm curious how being Prime and having the Diamond+ vouchers will work out.  Would love to save $ and not have to buy the drink package, although we spend that much, and more, in the casino, so it all balances out.   I'm hoping that Royal will start offering the drink cards again...that will help fill in the gaps, if needed.  Do you know if they are offering the drink card on your cruise?

  8. My experience:  I was at every trivia on Christmas cruise... minus one when I was napping. Sad, but true. 😉 I felt safe.
I, too, didn’t experience people coughing..The trivia hosts made announcements about Covid safety protocols, as did the ship with frequent reminders to everyone. The ice, aqua, headliner shows started with reminders... and throughout the shows if someone took a drink and did not pull their mask back on, there was always a Royal crew member politely reminding them to put their mask back on. I, personally, felt the crew did a great job in that respect. Now... Covid is contagious and people will catch it. I cruise knowing, and accepting, the risk vs reward, as do most on this board. Happy and Safe cruising, everyone!

Found a review out on the internet for this room that states:

Our room had a kids play net coming through our window which we were very disappointed about. We didnt ask fir that room but it would be nice to not have to close the curtains and be in a dark room. Kids were knocking in our window every second. Mind you we were on the 7th floor. They should deff fix that!

UGH... that's what I was afraid of.  That is ridiculous, and certainly not an experience I would pay MORE for... Ugh!  Thanks, Malson

  10. We stayed in a sideways cabin and it was the worst cabin we have ever sailed in. Nearly impossible to get in bed on one side. You could literally sit on the bed and open the cabin door— very small on space. No room for a loveseat or sofa, and chair was in a very awkward position, sticking out into the room that felt way too small. We now avoid that layout at all costs.
