  1. Private schools, esp Christian and Catholic schools usually have the week after Easter for a spring break. Many would have 10 days off from Good Friday through the next Sunday, so a longer cruise is possible. Many parents have no hesitation taking their kids out of school.

I think there used to be a good general way of figuring out crowded spring break weeks but now you can find South American travelers, quincetera groups, New Jersey week, Yeshiva groups, etc. I keep learning more and more and it is almost a losing battle. I thought an end of January cruise wouldn't find many kids. Wrong. All you need is a group from Argentina combined with a kids sail free special and all your thinking goes out the window.

Does anyone remember which week is Yeshiva week typically , the group from nyc,, people blew up the boards about it recently. I would personally prefer a different week,, thx!

  2. Thanks for the info Lady Arwen. Kamloops50, this will be my 4th cruise with NCL, so I guess that isn't a high cruise history but I suppose it can't hurt to try...

This is only my 4th, and I just scored a mini suite just by asking...at 9pm at night no less! Go ahead and call...you never know!:D

  3. For those of you prone to motion sickness,,, I know low and midship is best,. We just accepted upsell from deck 9 to 11 and Im wondering if the height makes much differance? We are still midship, and I use dramamine every night,,,, TIA!

  4. Never been on an NCL cruise do they call you for an upsell I am

cruising in may out of Barcelona, usually how far out do they start to call

We are abt 3 weeks out,, honestly it hasnt happened before now. This is our 4th on ncl ,but Ive heard that its typically around 2 weeks..cant wait!!!

  5. We are Booked on the Gem...Upsell called with a nice offer - balcony to mini suite for $125, so I jumped at it. I did check out deck 11 first, but foolishly didnt look at deck 12! How terrible is the noise from the public areas up there? Thx for any answers..

  6. Best tour we have ever taken was with Bernard's in St. Maarten. Had a great day of touring the island with stops at Maho beach to watch the planes land and Orient Bay for some relaxing beach time as well as a bunch of other stops. Rum punch and beer were available all day and included in the cost.

Where did you find Bernards? Is it a place/taxi near docks ? Do you prescheduale or just catch them there? Sounds like a great tour!

  7. Thanks everyone. That is not good news that lysol and clorox wipes do not work on noro. It would be tough to bring bleach spray or something liquid that would work!

In fact , clorox wipes or bleach sprays DO work on noro virus ( used in hospitals in fact),,,and we bring the wipes plus a small can of lysol spray just in case.... lol:cool:

  8. I agree, but cruising is definitely still ok to travel with certified birth certificates right? That's my biggest concern. We will renew them before our next cruise for our children, other then cruising from U.S. Ports we never take them to other countries. It's either Disney or cruising [emoji4]

It is ABSOLUTLY ok to use the childrens birth certificates... we did w/all 4 of our kids...never 1 issue! Enjoy your trip! :o

  9. Bbryant5 you don't say where you live but here's a word of advice I wish I had followed. Get to NY a day early just in case. We booked our flight for the morning of the cruise and immediately after I started to stress out. February and even March are still winter weather! You can so easily hit a snowstorm. And sure enough, all my worrying and stressing came true. A snowstorm hit the east coast during the night and we arrived at the airport to see cancelled and delayed all down the board for the east coast. But OMG the storm missed New York and closed down everything south of it! And we were on our way.

Previously I said that it did not warm up for our cruise until the 2nd sea day. I've seen that some of you have said you were sunbathing the 1st sea day so you must keep in mind that it can go either way at this time of year but you will still have an amazing time.

Our first night and first sea day were spent trying to walk upright as the ship was rolling! Stabilizers and all, the barf bags were out. Because we had to sail through that snowstorm which was south of NY and it was now hitting the Atlantic. The captain apologized repeatedly but what could he do. As he said...he could only turn the ship towards the waves for just so long since the waves were rolling out east and we needed to go south. The crew was so busy that night cleaning up the messes caused when the ship rolled. I felt so sorry for the dining room crew as we listened to the dishes crashing to the floor. And so many cabins with glasses broken on the floor. We could not get help until morning. We picked up what glass we could safely pick up and got the clever idea of laying out our luggage 'blanket' over the rest of the glass plus using towels as padding. We were worried about getting up in the night and standing on glass. It was a very interesting couple of days. But still stands out in our mind as one of our best cruises. 10 days is just so much better than 7. Enjoy!

And THAT is is why I take dramamine before we even board!!! Tho Im not certain it would help in those conditions!!! Fingers crossed, we sail out in march! Lol
