  1. I wear the patch as a preventative during the cruise and I'm perfectly fine

on the cruise. When I come off the ship, it's almost as if my body is on firm

land but my head is not. That makes me really nauseous. Any suggestion for something to take after the cruise to get rid of that feeling. I've tried gravol- no luck.

You might want to switch up to bonine/dramamine. you take it every evening and it helps you sleep but most importantly ,prevents nausea w/o the side effects. The patch is commonly used to prevent post-op nausea, and we always advise patients to remove it in 24 hrs....definetly speak to your dr.tho....good luck!

  2. I often wonder why NCL and other lines always post those pesky notices about "please keep the balcony door closed"? Probably has nothing to do with the air conditioning systems not being able to keep up or affecting the hallways and adjoining rooms. I'm thinking they just want to harass the guests? Surely there is no "real" reason to keep those doors closed?

I guess that explains how that latest published case of an intruder coming in through the balcony makes sense though.;)

We just sailed on the dawn last aug ,,, 3 times security came to our room and called us on phone to say our fire alarms were activated. It turned out t h at leaving our balcony door opened caused some air current that triggered it, repeatedly! :) weird, but true .

  3. Hi everyone a couple of years ago we were in San Juan for the day. We received the best advice on how to tour the 2 forts on our own and had an awesome time. We love to walk, hike etc.

This time our cruise docks 4pm-11pm and we are stumped. Would love any ideas on what we could do preferably walking or at least without a tour group. The only thing slightly interesting offered by the cruiseline is a kayak tour to bio luminescent area that has very mixed reviews.

Also other than the cemetery area is there anywhere not safe to explore ?

    Thx :)

Im very curious re touring the forts on our own,,, can you share? Thx!

  4. Our 1st cruise, we used a TA since we had no clue,,and didnt know cc existed....she was wonderful to us, and gave me a great travel folio/wallet as a gift. ( never heard of obc before 2nd cruise...) I have to admit annoyance when I had several questions and because she was out of office ill, I called and noone at cruise line would even speak to me. Also, we were "upgraded" to foreward balcony on upper level, which I specifically did not want ( very prone to seasickness) without being consulted. TA was so happy abt it, I felt terrible asking to put it back but there were no rooms left on our original floor..

I have since booked our next 3 myself, and have absolutly no complaints. I agree, its everyones personal preferance I guess

  5. I called ncl this morning to ask about adding gratuity to my balance to avoid paying increase onboard. They said to just add it, but when I directly asked if that will ensure it remains at my current booked rate, I was advised to pay it immediatly ( goes up aug 1st) . I did pay it today and also requested ( and recieved) email showing prepaid gratuity....so glad I called 1st. I was originally going to click "add to charges" ;)

  6. Seabands and ginger had zero effect on me,,,, i buy "less drowsy" dramamine ( bonine, meclizine,,,) and take 1st dose abt an hr before boarding. Then 1 tab every night around 8 or 9 p,,,no seasickness at all plus I sleep like a baby all night. It does last 24 hrs also.

The staff swear by green apples, and they truly did help me on 1st cruise, when I was unprepared,,,, have fun!

  7. Just off the Gem 6/13-6/21. We opted to get off at a specific time 9:30. We sat in the dining room until 830 to finish our breakfast. By the time we made our way to the lobby area, people were just dragging their bags and standing in the craziest long line i have ever seen for self walk off. They called our color at 945 instead of 930, but hey, that's fine with us. We were through the customs and outside by 10 sitting in our Van Shuttle. It was so much faster...and we didn't have to drag our bags through the ship.

The folks that mentioned the elevators not working--this is true. You would have to drag your bags...not fun.

Do yourself a favor and walk off the ship when the first color tags are called and enjoy your last sit down breakfast in the MDR, Grand Pacific. So relaxing.

We have always done self carry,,,Im curious tho about the color disembark. Is that when you leave luggage outside room last night and then collect somewhere after disembark?

Do you know what time the earliest is using this option? ( we always catch the train) thx!

  8. How do you avoid touching your face? Does repeating to yourself "Yes I know my nose is itching, but if I concentrate hard it will stop" work for you?

Its a learned habit,,, like not biting my nails anymore.... obviously there are times,,but thats why we handwash,,lol!

  9. I bring lysol wipes and most definetly wipe hard surfaces in our cabin.... those employees work long, hard hours and Im not taking any chances on thouroughness of cleaning. Say what you will, but I do use hand sanitizer and never put hands near my face. Im a nurse, and see 1st hand how easily things spread. Paranoid? Probably, but not taking chances I dont have too. And no, I do not shake hands.
