Resounding yes on getting rid of formal nights. I wear a suit daily and it is the last thing I want to wear on vacation. Thank goodness Celebrity and HAL have eliminated this remant of the past. For those who wish to wear a tux or suit, go for it. Glad I won't be joining you.
Agree-I cringe when I see a man in a tux.
How uncomfortable.

That's me off back to Cunard .
I'm old, you must really be old.

The majority of passengers prefer casual to formal? Visit Celebrity's Facebook page. In contrast to Cruise Critic, the majority of people commenting on X's Facebook page are against "elegant chic" replacing Formal Nights.
The ones in favor don't bother looking or posting.
-
Money! They have too many berths to sell. X is seeking the CCL,RCL.,NCL crowd that mistakenly thought Celebrity cruisers dined in gowns and tuxes nightly.
Not the parent company, RCL.;)

There is a marketing rule originally coined for the automotive industry that "you can sell a young person's car to an old man, but you can't sell an old man's car to anyone " Frankly this is universally true and that includes the cruise industry . Why would they accurately represent their actual customer base ? You may protest but as a society we all prefer younger and prettier .I don't know a lot of young person's cars I would want, but I know of a whole lot of old men's cars I'd love to have.

How will the no formal nights cut into the $$$ brought in by the SPA's-
Hairdressers, nail fixers, etc?
Getting those appointments on formal nights used to be a big deal
and a big sales item for Celebrity.
Also--I'll bet the tux rental department is a gone entity now. Wouldn't want to have stock in one of those.

We like to "dine" for dinner, Happy sailing,
Jenna
Just curious. Did you mean to say "dress" for dinner?

I think that the majority will still choose to dress up and those who don't will at least drag out their best pair of jeans and newest polo shirt. Pretty much the way Blu already is I imagine.
I think you're in for a huge surprise.
-
I don't know if "guys" wear tuxes anymore, but the well dressed man does.
Glad I'm just a "guy".:o

As much as I do miss the days when, on formal night, the evenings were just that - formal, it may not make a lot of sense on a Caribbean cruise to dress up the way that we used to. Yet, like so many things, new is not always better.
But many times it is.
Looks like most posters on here like the change.

I don't think there is the slightest correlation. I'm against this but have honestly never complained about one single thing on any cruise. I know people that complain about anything, I don't see anything in the way they dress that plays a part in that. I guess you have the traditionalists like me and my wife still only in our 40/50s who loved everything about cruising 20 years ago and are sick of one standard after another being watered down and others who are either newer to cruising or not really interested in the traditions. It's all about profits, packing more and more people into mega ships, and up selling. But hey I know that's how it's going and nothing will change that. Just think it's sad when even on here you have someone post something that's very fair and a reply is a snide " ta ta" sort of sums a lot up for me.
Sorry that was too strong for you. It was meant to say goodbye to one who is going on a fabulous Seabourn 24 day cruise with his tux and we are stuck with Celebrity that is "morfing into Carnival".
He stated he was "moving on". I am impressed.

If Kusadasi is on your itinerary, you can pick up a case load for $20 :p :D. You can't tell the difference unless you look real closely, and if you're that close, you'd better duck :D.
Kenevenpar,
The flirty dress was obviously too flirty, that's why it's been removed ![/quote
Genuine Fake Jeans.
It's on page 9

I don't care. I will wear a dress shirt or button shirt and slacks and not care what others are wearing or how Celebrity decides who fails to meet Evening Chic and that is Evening by the way not "Elegant".
Reading all the busy buddies and fashion poiice comments makes me even more happy that Celebrity made this change......
That's the Charles I remember.;)
-
Dockers and a button down would be smart casual. Evening Chic would be your black pants, beautiful purple shirt and a waistcoat....Just an example, I don't expect you to run to Banana Republic for a purple shirt :)
Waistcoat??:confused: Just thinking about wearing one of "those" makes me uncomfortable.

I also just received this email. If you click on the link that says learn more, it still list the number of formal nights by length of the cruise.
Per the email:
Evening Chic evolutions include
Sipping destination-inspired drinks at the new Captains Reception
Rubbing elbows with Senior Officers (including the Captain) at new officer hosted tables
Glamming it up with a spa makeover (Facebook profile update check!)
Evening Chic sailing departing December 4 and beyond.
So, what does this mean??? DW just bought a new dress for formal night on our upcoming Dec 6 sailing.
Take the dress back and get something useful.:D
-
Go back to RCL and hope they add the drink packages.:o
-
I'm with all you you. But be prepared, others will not be happy.
I just wish this change took place now and not waiting until Dec. We will have just completed our cruise.
You mean the "stuffies"??;)
-
Too bad. One more downgrade.
That's just your opinion.

No ship compares to the Oasis and Allure.;)
Love all the choices of everything.
Love the preplanning and reservation system
Love Central Park and Boardwalk.
Love the Comedy Club
Love the Aqua shows with the Olympic diver
Love the zip line

Looks like they're trying to charge for something rather than "giving" upgrades as in the past.:cool:

Thanks! I had tried just "Spitfires" and that was definitely not the group!
If you put in "Spitfires Party Band" you will get the right one.
First three articles list Celebrity cruises in the description.
-
Well, you may get your way. I read somewhere on the board that Rich Clesen either got off last cruise, or will be getting off at the end of the current cruise. That's too bad because I was looking forward to having him on the cruise next week. Maybe I'll find out Sunday that they transferred Ken Mills to some other ship.
P.S. Loved Sue ;)
Rich is supposed to be on the Silhouette in two weeks. If he's half as good as Richard Spacey, I'll be very happy.
-
Would anyone have a brief description of the bands on the Silhouette (style of music-- for example, one of the groups is clearly jazz by their name but could be anything from smooth jazz to be-bop, and the dj could be playing anything from electronica to country) and their impressions of how good they were? Thanks in advance!
Google "The Spitfires Party Band". Pretty good.
It's official! Formal nights gone, evening chic in! (3 Threads Merged)
