  1. We are cruising the month before and booked Fare Suisse for 1 night in Papeete which was very reasonable, 80€. They pick you up at the airport and bring you to the ferry. We are then spending 2 nights at the Hilton on Moorea. We used points for 1 night and paying for 2d night. Overwater bungalows are very pricey but if you want a regular room they are pretty reasonable

  2. IDK about N. Korea. Appears no one living there can say a bad thing about it...

...but there are nicer places to go than Saint John ... extra day in Halifax, Bar Harbor, Boston, etc.

St John is taking the place of our 2d sea day so it’s really just an extra port because we don’t need the travel time. Portland is substituted for Bermuda, not exactly an even swap but I much prefer that to sailing in, through or around a hurricane and the attendant rough seas that would come with it. If anyone has been to St John or Portland and has any DIY tour ideas (that do not include food lol) would appreciate hearing about them [emoji1]

  3. We did whale watching in ISP but since you are not stopping there I would look to do that in Juneau. In Ketchikan there were so many interesting things to do it was hard to narrow it down. We finally chose two, a kayaking trip at Orca's cove in the morning and a floatplane over Misty Fjords in the afternoon. Both were great. In Skagway we did the Dyea Dave tour to Emerald Lake; we opted to do the train back for a different perspective coming down, not sure it was worth doubling the price to do it that way.

  4. Another thumbs up for Nenana Raft Adventures. We were with Patrick at the end of June. Once they finished scaring the bejeezus out of me (the pre-ride talk covers every possible thing that could go wrong) it wound up being a fabulous adventure. I would do it again in a heartbeat [emoji1]

  5. Came back 2 days ago after time at the Hilton on Moorea, Paul Gauguin Cruise and time on Vahine Island. We arrived into PPT early and took the taxi to the ferry. We arranged in advance with Albert's for a private transfer from the ferry to the Hilton, $40 for the two of us. They offered to stop at a market if we wanted food stuff.

How long a trip is it from the ferry to the Hilton? Are there any options other than a private transfer? Would you be willing to share the contact information for Alberts?

  6. Update - I emailed my TA and told her I didn't get an upgrade and asked if there had been any upsell offers. She said that she had just gotten one, $400 per person for a balcony. Since the price difference between my D and the cheapest balcony was $1200, I decided to go for it. I was able to call and do it myself. I got a B1 on deck 6 which was actually $100 more regularly, so I saved $700 per person.

Oddly, they had 3 balcony cabins available for me to choose from even though the website says it's wait listed.

That’s great news, congratulations! I’m not sure I get the math (didn’t you actually save $900pp?) but I think that’s a great deal. Checked mine again tonight and we are back to everything waitlisted except 2 OS cabins....

  7. Bad news for me. I just checked and I was assigned a D category on deck 3 :(. Hope you have better luck.

Oh sorry to hear that. I just checked and no assignment yet. One of the 2 OS cabins are gone and the PH1 is now offered as a guarantee. I guess whomever was in the PH1 that opened up took the other OS. Keeping my fingers crossed that we get some sort of bump up [emoji1]

  8. This thread is making me nervous. We booked a D on an Insignia NE/Canada Cruise sailing in a little more than a month. I went back & forth and finally switched to the D when it was offered on a guarantee. At this point the entire ship is wait listed except for 2 OS cabins. We have sailed O twice, but both times on Marina. Wanted to try a R ship, and we will have fun no matter what but I hope I’m not kicking myself for giving up the C2 for the D. 🤨

  9. Free WiFi on all ships for all cabins. 1 device at a time & 1 account, so you and the other person in your cabin cannot be on at the same time (unless you want to pay for a second). Can’t comment on the strength.

  10. Reservation for us in an OV opened on the 20th; although I had planned to stay up until midnight on 19th to book, I forgot. Woke at 8am, flew to the computer and the only time I could get on any day for a 2 top was 9pm (there were other options if we wanted to share). I don’t mind eating 8-8:30 but 9 is really late, at least for me. Cruise Junky, on Celebrity you can all go on at the same time but that I surmise it is because you are paying extra to dine there? While I am less than thrilled about getting 9pm dining times, I get that the people paying more than me get 1st crack at picking their dining times....

  11. $@/:$)#* Just received an email from Celebrity that the Hubbard Glacier excursion (the small boat excursion) has been cancelled for the August 10th sailing. Oh well, maybe next cruise to Alaska. Hopefully we’ll have good weather and can get close to the glacier. Recent reviews show the ships are getting pretty close this year.

On our recent cruise on Millennium we were at Hubbard Glacier on June 30th. Although the weather wasn’t the best, we got within a half mile of the Glacier. They announced it was the closest Captain Nikolaus had gotten (not sure if they meant this year or ever) to it. I think because it was overcast we got better pictures than if it was sunny and we saw a lot of calving. It was a pretty amazing experience.
