  1. Question...

We are arriving for our land tour a day early and plan on an activity the day we are supposed to meet our guide... if we miss him we will we still be able to get our information from someone at the hotel?

I don't know as we have always arrived the first day (usually the first day is just for people to arrive and the tour usually doesn't start until the next day because of the flight schedules) and the guide was there until 8 or 9 p.m.,if I remember correctly. I am sure someone at the hotel would be able to give you the information packet if you were unable to meet with your guide........and that would have all the pertinent info you need.

  2. No "Cruise Compass" but in the Alaska cruise tours we have done you will meet your tour guide the day you arrive and the guide will have lots of information for you, including a time table for each day's activities and meeting places. They have also given us a list of optional land excursions and prices for the same. We have done 2 land tours and all I can tell you is not worry, they have the whole thing down pat. We are heading on another cruise tour next month and I have no doubt everything will be well arranged by Royal.

    Have fun!

  3. We did the same cruise on the same ship last year. Do not expect the internet service to be anywhere near what you experienced on the newer ships. We had many blocks of time where we had no service (especially the day cruising in the fjords), and when we had service it was much slower and much less reliable than our cruises on the Oasis and Quantum classes of ships.

This is an amazing ship and the fjords are beautiful. It is one of our all time favorite cruises, so go and enjoy!

  4. We did the Serenade itinerary in September 2016, and loved the ports. The three ports in Iceland were spectacular and each was different. It was easy to take the HOHO bus in each of the European ports and also in Reykjavik We had private tours in the other two Iceland ports. We had been to Iceland three previous times, but never to the Akureyi and Isafjordur, which were totally different from Reykjavik.

Serenade is sister ship to Radiance, so glass is everywhere.

Distance from Copenhagen airport to ship is much less than distance from London airports to Southampton. Copenhagen is a wonderful city, so I suggest at least a day

pre cruise to experience Copenhagen. HOHO bus and boat is fairly reasonable.

I would do that cruise again in a heartbeat

  5. gayle is absolutely correct. Alaskan 2017 books opened in March 2016, so availability could be a big issue for you.....even if the ship has available cabins the tour may not, so I would all and see what options you have.

To answer your questions, if you are doing southbound port side is best. A balcony is wonderful for Alaska, and worth every penny (or dollar) IMO.

The transfers are included in the cruise tour package. We are doing an 6 night precruise this June and have done a 5 night precruise package in the past. Everything is done for you, to transferring your luggage, securing your hotel keys, checking in and out, and the bus and train arrangements were wonderful. Our guides were funny and very knowledgeable.

If Denali is a "must see" (and I believe it is), I suggest taking the longer tour, even if it costs a few dollars more than the tour included in the package, but it takes you much farther into the park and you will see much more wildlife than on the shorter tour.

Your plan B might be to book this for 2018,.....the books for that time period should open within the next few weeks. However, if you have to go in 2017, i suggest booking a cabin (a balcony if you can get it) and after final payment some better cabins may open up if people cancel.

    Happy Planning!

  6. We had a piece of luggage missing when we went to pick it up at debarkation. We had suite/pinnacles luggage tags on it,and we were among the the first off the ship, as we were being held escorted off but the concierge. We filed a report at the pier, and were told it could take up to a week to find it, as all luggage left would go to their warehouse. They found it and shipped it to us at their expense. The tags were still attached, and I don't think anyone else please picked up by mistake as we were about the first ones off. I guess stuff happens, but I was very glad to get it back.

If luggage is left behind, why would Royal pay for the shipping? It's not their fault.

  7. Both my DH and I had certificates from a October Serenade cruise. When we got home I called the number on the certificate and asked about using them on a February 2017 cruise which we had booked in March 2016. They allowed both of us to apply the certificates to the rate we had, did not reprice the cruise, and we also kept our balcony discount. We did not have a casino rate, just got dollars off the rate we had. Wish I had known about the certificates as I had received them on previous cruises and just threw them away as the terms and conditions seemed to make them worthless for us, as we get a size able balcony discount being Piñnacle. I won't do that again!

  8. We became Pinnacle a few months ago and were in a full suite so we received all the perks - however no complimentary internet till the following cruise. I had e mailed the Loyalty Ambassador in advance to enquire about this and was told "not until your following cruise". We were invited to a superb Pinnacle dinner with the HD.

The day we made Piñnacle the loyalty ambassador changed our cards to gold. Since it was on Quantum, there was no suite lounge, the free internet perk hadn't started then, but we got the perk of Coastal kitchen. Another instance of Royals inconsistency.[emoji849]

I think Piñnacle level is supposed to be celebrated on the ship when you attain the status, unlike the other levels which make you wait till the following cruise to change status,

  9. Just got off Serenade in FLL on Friday and had an early flight. We had concierge services, so,our luggage was first off the ship and the concierge escorted us off at 7:45 Since we were first off, there were no lines at Immigration, and we were at the gate at 8:15.

However, if Freedom is using terminals Bob Mentioned, I would be a bit hesitant to take that early flight. We had concierge privileges last March and were escorted off the Independence, luggage was right there, but immigration lines were very long. If you have a suite and have concierge privileges, it is very doable. If you don't, I suggest you do self debarkation or get a very low luggage tag number, like 1 or 2.

Other folks in our party also made the flight, but they were able to get debarkation tags number 1 and they arrived about 20 minutes after us. It also helped that everyone in our group had TSA Pre check, as then security lines were quite long

  10. How much does the letter in the cabin differ from this letter.

It doesn't. Are you looking for some other amenities?

Just got off Serenade, and believe me, Mario Reyes may not be "the"Super Mario, but he certainly is super!:)

CL was full to overflowing most nights and the servers were run ragged with drink orders. Mario was cleaning tables and even taking drink orders.

  11. On Serenade right now,no reserved WJ seating. However, did fjords and transatlantic on this ship in August, and they had a section of the WJ for gold cards only, so it may not only vary ship to ship, but also cruise to cruise. Large numbers of gold cards on all three cruises, so I have no idea how they determine when to make a separate area.

Separate area was to the left of the entrance, in a glassed area behind sliding doors. Very empty most times during the August cruises, and all cruises were pretty much sold out.
