  1. Did Samba last week on Allure. Salad bar had great shrimp, fresh veggies. Six of us enjoyed it very much. They did cover each chair with a pretty white chair cover, tied in back, nice table cloths and candles, so I feel they dressed the SolariumBistro up at night.

I would let some of the early meat choices go by,as others have said, as they save the better choices for the end. Each meat was well prepared and tasty. We would definitely do it again.

Our experience may have been different from others but we all had a great time and felt it worth the money.

  2. This is more than likely a travel agent problem. Royal does not just cancel reservations without notice to TA. Usually 5 business days.

Also the OP cannot just cancel a cruise if booked with TA.

Again, not supposed to happen but I have had two reservations cancelled by clients. When I went to cancel them they we're already cancelled, when I asked who cancelled them I was told "........"

When I asked who "......." Was they couldn't tell me......not supposed to happen as I said, but it does

Sorry, but it no longer works that way. They used to give the travel agent 5 business days after final payment date before cancelling the reservation, but they stopped the 5 day notice some time ago. Now the reservation is just cancelled without notice and no deposit is refunded after final payment date

  4. ....well, sort of......I have been on Royal twice over the years but they

were "weekend cruises"......once on Sovereign of the Seas (a long time

    ago) and then Enchantment.

Any information would be appreciated.....for those who have done

this itinerary, I am guessing the weather will be cool.....and before I

do all my research, are the ports easy to do "on your own" or would

    you suggest excursions?

We go to Bar Harbor and Portland (Maine), Halifax, Nova Scotia,

    and St John (Bay

    Hi,

We live in MA and have done this cruise three times. We can drive to all these ports, but we don't.

I suggest you do a tour in Halifax, especially get to see Peggy's Cove.

It's about an hour or so from downtown Halifax, which also has a lot to see, so try to take a tour that encompasses the downtown area(the Citadel, the Titanic cemetery, the Museum, etc.) in addition to Pggys Cove. If that doesn't interest you, the ship docks right at the beginning of a shoreside walkway, which ends about a mile or two at a. Casino. Lots of shops, restaurants, and touristy things along the walkway.

In Portland the ship docks a very short walk from shops and restaurants, and the ship offers tours to Freeport, Maine, a shopping Mecca. There is also a great duck boat tour in Portland.

Bar Harbor is a tender port, again lots of shopping and great restaurants with terrific lobster rolls, Maine Lobster not warm water stuff. If you get off the tender and turn right, about 40 yards down the street isOllie's Trollies, which will take you to the top of the mountain, and if the weather isn't foggy you will have a very colorful view.

St. John has some tours that take you to see the place where the tides are the highest and lowest, but it does depend on the time of the tides.

Again, scenery should be very colorful that time of year.

As someone else said, it could be [emoji33]50,or it could be 80. I suggest layers, and since you live in Florida, you might want to take a hat and

gloves. [emoji849]. Would also take a bathing suit, as Serenade has a beautiful solarium pool with a roof, so no matter the outside temps, you can be comfortable using that pool.

Jeans, short and long sleeved tops, sweatshirts and a jacket will suffice for onboard or onshore daytime wear, and black slacks and tops will be appropriate for the formal nights. You I'll see a few tuxes and long dresses, but lately we haven't seen many even on Caribbean or transatlantic cruises.

Serenade is a beautiful ship it's lots of glass and great viewing areas,

And our favorite class of RCI ships.. Hope you have a wonderful time!

  5. Celebrity has non smoking casinos, Royal allows smoking in half of Oasis class casinos, but not separated by a poker room (don't remember ever seeing a separate poker room) but the smoke does drift into the non smoking half. Celebrity has almost smoke free ships, but does allow outdoor smoking on one or two decks, but don't remember if there is a bar or lounge on Celebrity that allows smoking. Most lounges on Royal are smoke free, so I the casino seems to be a gathering place for smokers, who tend to congregate around the ash trays and smoke.

As a former smoker I understand the need to have a cigarette, and smokers are being forced to find places, so I think the casinos have gotten much smokier since smoking has been banned indoors (except the casino). I wish they would bring back the non smoking nights on formal nights , but that seems to have disappeared.

  6. DH and I want to take an Alaskan cruise during the 2017 RCCL Alaskan cruise season. Deciding on the cruise is fairly easy but we're not yet sure which cruietour we want, if any.

My question is this, can we book a cruise now and add a cruisetour later without messing up our original booking? My fear is that by adding a cruisetour later we will have to cancel our original booking and start over.

    TIA! :D

    Di

No, you cannot just add a cruisetour later. If there is room on the cruisetour, you will get your reservation repriced to the current rate, so if you can pick a cruisetour now, you would probably be better off. If you cant decide you could make two reservations, one for the cruise and one for the cruisetour and decide before final payment.

  7. Got a call like that last week just before our cruise on Indy. Came at 5:57 p.m. And it was a 305 number, which I know is Miami. No message, so. Called the number back and was told it was the main switchboard for Royal, and she had no information, and I could call back on Monday (this was the Friday before our cruise , which was leaving on Monday.)

I then called the Crown and Anchor number, explained about the call, and the representative looked at my booking and read some notes inserted into the booking. No upgrade, just royal calling to wish us a nice cruise and congratulating us on our anniversary, which we were celebrating on the cruise.

No upgrade, but was not expecting one, we are Piñnacle and haven't seen an upgrade in years[emoji2]

  8. On Indy last week it was gold cards only and the food and service were outstanding. French toast and pancakes, though not listed on the menu, were available, eggs, omelette, bacon, sausage, and a nice buffet with breads and cereals. Food was delivered to the table nice and hot?

Departure day no chef, so no hot food, but you could get your food in

The WJ and sit in Chops and they still got yourcoffee for you. Again, only open to Gold cards and the cards were checked every day.

  9. They HAVE an overflow program - it's called "3 Free Drinks" in any bar during happy hour.

    Great Question!

I don't think they will do that on the smaller ships either. There's no room.

I LOVE the Suite Lounge on Oasis, but could see that the Diamond Lounge is too small for everyone else.

Darrell, the "old" Concierge lounge on OA and. AL has been renamed to he "diamond" lounge, so it should hold many more people than the old DL.

The "suite lounge" is now only forSuites and Pinnacles.

BTW, hope you and Donna are doing well. We are doing Independence next week, AL in Amat, SR in August and Sept, B2B, and SR again in Oct for th repo. Any chance we will see you and Donna?

  10. I found the CP balconies very warm, our kids like the BW balcony, but we prefer the ocean view balconies for the view of the ocean and the privacy. I think it depends on your budget, but outside balconies would be my first choice, followed by BW, and I would try to get one as far aft as possible so I could see the water, and I don't think I would ever take a CP balcony, but I have friends who always take that and love it. Different strokes for different folks.

  11. We have done Halloween cruises the past years on Jewel and Brilliance and will do it again this year on Serenade. There have been lots of decorations, many costumes and a big Halloween party. Like one poster mentioned, one year there was a Haunted House, but don't know if Serenade will do that.

People go to dinner in costume, there has been a costume parade a couple of years, and they have given prizes for the best costumes.

These Halloween cruises have been on the repositioning from Boston, they attract a lot of repeaters (like us) so I expect the Serenade will have a good Halloween turnout this year!

  12. We are Pinnacle now, but when we were diamond plus we did not have access to Barefoot beach unless we reserved a cabana....and we had to wait until the suites were given opportunity to reserve the cabanas. Agree with Bob that this might be a ship specific thing not fleet wide.
