  1. I haven't been to Alaska yet but have a cruise booked there for next summer and we are taking our kids age 8 and 6. Some things I'm planning are the white pass railroad in Skagway, the mt Roberts tram in Juneau which is right by the port, and just walking around Ketchikan and going to see the totem poles. We are going to splurge in Skagway on the rail trip and add on a dogsled ride. Then do the other ports on our own. Good luck with your planning and have fun!

  2. Wow we sailed on the Conquest over New Years and were done with muster and on our balcony for sail away with time to spare. Also I thought the embark and debark went pretty smoothly but we did have FTTF. We had a wonderful cruise on the conquest. I hope if there are issues now they resolve them so everyone can have a great time like we did!

  3. Maybe rent 2 cars so that you can explore the area at your own pace, even venture to the coast to see Eagle Beach, Shrine of St Therese.

I have no personal experience with a tour, but he town web site has a few vendors. 12th St hits the places you listed.

Thank you for the link I am leaning highly towards 12th street as it says they are acquiring a 10 passenger van which would be perfect for us. For $70 per hour which works out to only $7 per hour per person seems like a great deal.

I would rather not rent cars unless it was a huge price difference. I would much rather have someone who knows the area show us around! Thanks again for the info!

  4. We have a group of 10 arriving in Juneau next June on the Carnival Legend. We are in port 7am to 3pm. We would like to go to Mendenhall Glacier and do the hike to Nugget Falls, go to the Alaskan Brewing Co for a tour and tasting, and do the Mt Roberts tram before getting back on the ship.

I am wondering what our best transportation options would be for this. Can anyone possibly recommend a private driver in Juneau with a vehicle that would fit us? Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

  5. That is a great idea to set up the kids accounts with a set amount of cash to spend. Mine are also getting to the ages where I'd like to give them some freedom to spend but I thought I would have to just link theirs to my credit card and track it carefully. The cash idea will be much easier! Glad I came across this thread. :)

  6. We were on the Conquest last month and had one of the best dining room services we have ever had on a cruise. Our waiters were wonderful and attentive, they remembered what we liked and had our kids drinks on the table when we sat down, and the food was quick and delicious! So the good service definitely still exists!! I think unfortunately it just is the luck of the draw on your wait staff. But if anyone is getting ready to sail the Conquest request Imade and Razvan!! :)

  7. Yes on our last cruise my 7 year old daughter had everything from frog legs to prime rib! The 5 year old ate cheese pizza just about every night however. Ha! Great thing about cruising is you can let the little ones try new things if they are adventurous eaters and not be worried about the cost!

  8. My girls love to dress up for formal nights so we always bring fancy dresses. So the girl may enjoy that! I don't know much about 10 year old boys but I agree that in some khakis and a nice button down shirt he would look very nice for formal night!

  9. Will do! Let me know if there is anything else kid related I can check out for you. I'll be traveling with an (almost) 3 year old.

Thank you!! Have fun I have a 5 and 7 year old and they have been cruising since they were 1 and always love it! It would be great to see the fun times too if you can keep them. Have a great cruise!

  10. Does anyone happen to have a Camp Ocean schedule from a recent Conquest cruise? We have done Camp Carnival many times but this is our first ship with Camp Ocean. Just wondering how the activities are similar or different. My girls are age groups 2-5 and 6-8. Thanks in advance!!

  11. Can anyone who has sailed over New Years Eve tell me if they will make that night one of the formal nights? We are on the Conquest leaving 12/26 and have 2 port days, 1 sea day, 2 more port days then 2 sea days. NYE falls on our last port day which is Aruba from 8-4. Just wondering if I should pack for 2 formal nights only or 3 including NYE. Thanks in advance!

  12. I think the extra cost is worth it. The pool area is very nice and also they have a little kids gated and shaded play area right next to the pool area. My 4 year old enjoyed the pool and play area both.

And yes we did the online discount it is worth it. They had our name down and our wristbands all ready to go when we checked in. Also if your ship doesn't dock for some reason they will refund you. :)
