  1. In regards to entertainment, you said you like the live music rather than the production shows.  I find the I like Carnival for the Piano Bar and other live music.  I like NCL because I can usually find some time of live entertainment somewhere.  Hope you find what will work for you.  Have a great time.

  2. I have booked guarantee cabins in the past, all but one time I had my cabin number before I sailed.  The one I didn't have was given to me at the pier and they tagged the bags for me.  Last time on Carnival, we got upgraded on the morning of sailing so I had to have the porter fix my tags.

  3. I started a roll call for my October 7, 2019 Jewel cruse on December 27, 2018.  I just noticed someone created another roll call for the same sailing last Saturday.  How do I get these merged together.  I'm sure the other person didn't see my post, but to avoid confusion I would like them together.

    Thanks

  4. On Carnival you can pick early dining, late dining or anytime dining.  If you have anytime dining, it's basically like NCL you go to the dining room that is assigned as anytime dining and they either seat you or give you a pager so they can let you know when your table is ready.  I also read recently that you can reserve through the hub app and they will let you know when to come to the dining room.

  5. I have sailed both.  I have never seen Carnival offer the drink package as a promo.   I usually sail with a friend and on NCL for two of us I believe it was around $2000.00 for an inside room with all the fees and taxes and gratuity for the drink package.  I like Carnival, but most of  the time you can't beat the price of NCL if you take advantage of the drink package promo.  On Carnival we pay for the drink package and the only upside is that all beverages are included.  Water, vitamin water, speciality coffees, soda and alcoholic beverages.  You have a 15 drink limit per day on the alcohol, but unlimited on everything else.  Food is subjective, but I will say I prefer the food on NCL.  I always find something I like on Carnival, but feel NCL has better choices.  I have been on 16 Carnival cruises and 2 NCL cruises with 2 more NCL cruises booked and 1 Carnival cruise booked.  If you have other questions please let me know.

  6. I have a friend who flies down from San Francisco twice a year.  He flies into Long Beach if it is economical.  This March I told him to do LAX as it was a lot less money.  In October we are flying to Vancouver for a cruise that ends in Los Angeles.  He is looking at both LAX and Long Beach.  I told him to pick the most inexpensive.  If it's a few dollars more for Long Beach that is what he will do.  Long Beach is so easy to get in and out of and not far from San Pedro hotels.

My reservation says NCL requires passengers to be back on ship 2 hours before departure.  Does that mean if your time in port is 8-6, you have to be back on the ship by 4?  Or is the in-port time listed actual time that you have to be back on board?

That is usually at the port of embarkation.  When you are in port they will tell you what time you need to be back on board.

I've had CHEERS on several different ships and the soda has always been in a can with a glass of ice - you can ask that the bartender not open the can if you want to take it to the cabin for later.

The only time I couldn't get Grey Goose (or any other high end liquor) was if I ordered a "menu" drink - ie:  The Cruiser, Kiss on the Lips, etc.  Though some people have said that this was not their experience - again, I've tried on several different ships and was always told that they had to stay with the "recipe."  Perhaps if I would have "pitched a fit" I could have gotten the top shelf - but it wasn't worth it to me.

You can ask for the can, but they won't always give it to you.  I was on Carnival in November of 2017.  Not one bar was open before 8:00 am.  I wanted a diet coke, but could only get one if I was in the dining room early.  Because of this I asked a bartender in the Red Frog Pub if I could have an un opened can of diet coke for the next morning.  He told me they aren't suppose to do it.  I assured him I would not tell anyone and put it in my purse so no one could see it.  I have no problem with this policy other than I cannot get anything before 8:00 am.  Next Carnival cruise I will be bringing some soda on so I don't have this issue.

  9. I have done this itinerary many times.  I went swimming in Cabo and Mazatlan in December and the water  was great.  This isn't always the case, but your chances are good.  I have also done Las Caletas in Puerto Vallarta in February and went swimming no problems.  This was one of my favorite tours. It is expensive, but I'm glad I did it once.  I have also gone horseback riding in Mazatlan on Stone Island.  I used Randi's Happy Horses, which is now Maria's Happy Horses.  Maria is a wonderful girl.  I know there is a website for it.  When Randi was in charge, they picked you up inside the terminal area where the shops are and shuttled  us to the ferry to Stone Island and then we got our horses and went through the trees to the beach and rode down the beach to Victor's for lunch.  Lunch is extra but it was very good.  I don't know if Maria uses Victor's anymore.  I also waded into the water there in December one time and it was not cold, but not overly warm.  We usually go to Medano beach in Cabo.  As someone previously said The Office is there.  There are two other restaurants too.  Billigan's and Mango Deck.   We go to Mango Deck.  Now in Puerto Vallarta we just get off the ship in the port area to get anything we want.  If you have further questions please ask.

My wife wanted to do this (without children).

Will we stand out or a lot of adults without children go to it?

We were a group of 4 adults and we all enjoyed it.  I had made friends with one of the cruise director staff members and he even came and got me to take pics with the characters before all the kids lined up.  I am disabled so this was very much appreciated.  You will enjoy it.  The food was great.  I had steak and eggs.

  11. I  have been on the Elation several times.  It is one of  my favorite ships.  Lunch will be the buffet on Lido deck.  I don't know if the  Elation has the Guy's Burgers and Blue Iguana, but those are also on Lido deck and free.  Since this is your first time on Carnival I would suggest you get the  earliest check in time possible.  You will board after Weddings, Platinum, Diamonds and Faster To the Fun guests.  I don't personally like late seating for dinner but that is just me.  We get the Cheers drink package.  That is also a personal thing.  It depends how much you would use it.  The only difference I noticed is that Carnival seems to have more free activities during the day than NCL.  I love Deal or no Deal on NCL, but i just watch.  It's way too expensive for what it is.  I like Carnival trivia better because they do themes.  They had 80's music, Beatles trivia, 70's TV shows, etc.  As far as disembarking, they do offer self disembarking if you can manage  all your luggage.

    Have a great cruise.

So far the poll seems to be going in the "no Problem" direction...Sure hope that's right. Would be pretty bad to be broken up. Yes, we are on the same booking number, same room. Anybody else want to chime in on experiences with this type of thingy.

I was platinum and my friend was gold.  The guy told me I could go ahead but friend had to wait.  I emphatically told him no, we are in the same cabin we can go together.  He asked someone else and then apologized for the misinformation.  Her cruise card was with mine in the platinum area.
