  1. I have searched and can’t find the answer.....

....may I bring a small travel kcup coffee maker to use in my cabin?

I tried bringing my own tower fan once and that got taken until the end of that cruise.

Now I carryon small desk fans with no problem.

I would like for my dh to be able to enjoy his beloved hazelnut kcups, especially since the regular coffee offered is notoriously underwhelming.

I know we can buy better coffee at the coffee shop, just wanted to know if we might be able to bring a small travel coffee maker with us for the stateroom.

Would it be considered a fire hazard?

Thanks for being kind to answer if you know.....

  2. If you have never done the Sea Day Brunch , you should definitely try it.

It is several steps above the buffet for sure, and I like it better than the MDR breakfast.

We missed out on it on our first few Carnival cruises until I read about it here on the forum.

So glad we learned about it as it is a must-do at least once on every cruise for us now.

I especially like the steak and eggs....it’s a tiny filet mignon, but it’s just right for me!

  3. Had been a loyal Royal Caribbean fan for many years.  Thought the ‘party ship’ atmosphere I had heard about Carnival was beneath me.  Was I ever wrong.  First time on Carnival (out of necessity because I could not get an RCI ship out of my homeport at the time I wanted to sail) and I was blown away by how much fun I had on the line I mistakenly/foolishly thought I was too good for.  I immediately changed my next booking to Carnival and have not looked back.  I was Diamond on RCI at the time, and now my loyalty is to Carnival.  The energy level is palpably higher, and I like that a lot.  I am close to retirement age, have regularly sailed 5 different cruise lines, and Carnival is my choice.  I am as surprised as anyone to be saying that!

  4. It’s our family tradition to sail the week before Christmas because of the more affordable pricing.  We have done it for at least 10 years now.  Can also do some Christmas shopping on the trip.  One year we cruised again the week of NYE and that was fun!  Cost was higher because it was a holiday of course, but it helped the post-cruise let down immensely knowing we would be back on the seas again in a week!

  5. Such a shocking and devastating tragedy for all.

I am so sad for those who were lost and injured, and their families and friends.

It impacts everyone in the cruising world, and especially those who have been to Ketchikan, or will be there one day.

I remember watching the float planes taking off when we were there in ‘17.  I longed to be one of the adventurous ones who booked those excursions.  I seem to have gotten more skittish in my old age and was too frightened from previous reports of float plane accidents to book a tour.  God bless all who were only following their dream for a once-in-a-lifetime trip to view the majesty of the beauty in the wilderness.

May their souls be at peace and their loved ones find some semblance of comfort during this unimaginable time.

    Just walk on by!

Port agent stopped me the first time I ‘walked on by’ because I was unaware of the tax requirement.

That was several years ago, and I guess I was obviously carrying a liquor box for them to spot me.

Ignorance of the law is embarrassing when you get caught.

I don't think this is so far fetched... Carnival could have a couples package where its 20 drinks max between both and charge maybe 75.00 versus 103.00 for individual plan for both people with the 15 per person max... As long as carnival can price out so they continue the great profit margin for themselves, I think it would be something for them to consider..

I would love to see a couples plan, but my deficient math brain is not clear on this suggestion.  Are you proposing a plan for 2, to share 20 drinks per day, at a total cost of $150 per day, or $75 per day for each person??  That would could be profitable for Carnival, but be a bit pricy on the combined wallets of the couple, no?  However, some couples may be very willing to pay that.  IMHO, it would be a nice option to have, and each couple would use their own good judgement on whether it makes sense for them.

  8. Agree!  Lots of fun and energy on NYE cruises!  We brought some of our own decorations and hats, and 2 bottles of champagne to enjoy in the cabin.  But the crew supplies many of these things too during the festivities, starting with embarkation.  There is also a late night breakfast offering in the buffet NYE night/early morning.

  9. They do not always have fans to lend out. I attempted to bring a tower fan on one Carnival cruise and it was confiscated, probably because it was new and still boxed up. I got it back at the end of the cruise. Smaller table size fans seem to be ok. I usually bring 2 of them in my carry-on.

  10. And is printing your cruise planner calendar and taking it with you the ONLY way to remember what you have booked for what days? Sailing on A 9-day Grandeur right now, and I confess I am old, and so have struggled to find out a way to keep track. I have had to ask the DL Concierge to look it up for me, which he could do, but have not figured out a way to find that info in my cabin or online. I must have missed discussions of what happened to the Royal Caribbean app I used to use when onboard ships. My understanding is that whatever new app RCI has now is only available on Oasis class ships.

  11. We are currently in the process of attempting getting a refund. When we first received the mailing from AARP, we thought they had forgotten to include the gift cards, because we expected it to be like Carnival. My husband called immediately, and spoke to several levels of supervisors, the last of which gave him directions to mail the certificate back. We have not done it yet, as we are currently sailing, but will keep you posted on hat happens when we get back home.

  12. Wow! And I thought the political polarization currently in full bloom was intense.

The arguments against these increased safety measures baffles me. As a counterpoint to the stance that employing lifeguards at the solarium pools is senseless unless we also have them at hot tubs I say this: I would favor stationing lifeguards at those hot tubs too except that I know it is unrealistic from a cost per passenger perspective. Many more passengers use the pools than the hot tubs simply due to size so of course the cruise line is trying to cover the most area they can within reason. And I thank them for it.

As for the “staring” at someone in a new bikini complaint.....I. Just. Can’t. Even.

Grabbing some popcorn now to enjoy the rest of the debate.....

  13. We sailed out of Baltimore on the Pride last May and will be going on her again in March. Agree it is an easy port to sail out of, but it has the LONGEST, steepest gang way I have ever experienced. I am not "old" and do not have mobility issues, but I was huffing and puffing and saying a few OH CRAPS by the time we finally got on the ship!:o:confused: So be warned!

YES to this observation! This particular gangway is long and steep, and my short legs were straining to make it to the ship! Usually I go bopping up the gangway because I am so excited to get on the ship. THIS time however (yesterday! We are currently sailing on Grandeur heading to Bermuda!) I was dragging and going much slower. The prize was still just as great though - a cruise ship on the other end of the line!!

  14. Thank you for this review! I am so glad your DS with autism enjoyed his cruise. I work with adults with autism and my fantasy is to cruise with all of them and their families someday. Maybe not a realistic fantasy unless I win the lottery, but a lovely dream nonetheless! May you and your family enjoy many more cruises in the future .

  15. Happened in real life to me in March ‘18. Right before leaving our home in Houston to drive to Galveston, DH asked me to “show me the passports”. I took the passport pouch out of my backpack, showed him, and then promptly left them on the table. Did not realize until we approached the entrance to the terminal where they were checking if we had documents in hand. We got out of line, searched everywhere fruitlessly, then called my DD who lives 5 blocks from my house. She ran over there, found them, then graciously met us halfway. It was such a blessing we live so close to our home port. Not the case this week when we cruise out of Baltimore. You can be sure we will triple check in the car before we leave for the airport!
