Thanks for weather update
I think it's colder than I expected and changes layering thoughts for packing

Thanks for the update Doug
Sounds a little dreary weather wise
Same as here in florida where it's extremely windy and cloudy
Enjoy lunch and hot rocks tonight
A little chill in the air makes for a hearty appetite

Doug
Hope the weather improves and you get to aix and cassis. Pontillo was our capt on June 2012 cruise and he had his lovely wife and little children aboard. Enjoyed talking with his wife who is American, kids were well behaved and doted upon by the staff .
Sounds as if all except the wind and sea is good!
Thanks for the updates.

The glowing reports are wonderful to read . Now just have to make time for the dreaded packing.
Wish I had the foresight to begin months before which would make this last minute countdown more fun.
See you all in less than a week, looking forward to putting the nom de plume with the nom de guerre, and of course the visage.
Enjoy every moment!

If its the same as on the svalbard trip in June, it's not for anything heavy, it's not waterproof nor water resistant. It's fine for your metal water bottle and something else light but don't trust it for expensive cameras!

Looks great!! We had a similar suite this June to svalbard
Gotta love the closet. Room to add another passenger!
Question to get Amex benefits did you have to book thru them or pay with platinum card?

Wonder if there are similar rules for the the newer vessel going to Vanuatu and New Zealand
Anyone know? Sorry sort of off topic
But in keeping with expanding line before being ready

Aren't they dealing with laws of Ecuador which mandate they get all food/ provisions from Ecuador and have to use personnel from Ecuador?
I would imagine the learning curve is huge,
Maybe SS management underestimated...
Just my musings

If it's a similar backpack as to the one we were given on the explorer it's only water resistant.
Bring some ziplock or other bags if you are looking for actually keeping the water out. If you were to drop the back pack they gave us on the explorer into the water I don't think it would float nor do I think it would be waterproof. I would check on exactly what the backpack is before putting my camera or anything else in it and expecting it to be waterproof.
As mentioned I brought ziplock bags
With me.
We also did not use suitcases except for small one to check for breakable items. We used duffel bags to pack our gear. They fit easily under the Bed and worked well.
As far as clothes to wear, I would bring layers and stuff you can wash out and hang dry quickly.
Even in the arctic, at night the dress was a little glitzy.

There were 20 + year olds on the explorer (sisters) they had a blast and even did the polar plunge.
Agree it depends on the young adult.

on this thread which has no bounds.
Admit I got very lost in the patois of some of those who posted, and need a rosetta stone course to learn/translate.
Nevertheless it seemed that you all were enjoying the banter.
