Keith, did you reserve your Vintage Room before boarding or after? We are not interested in reserving a private dinner but joining a group that might be organized by the sommelier as we have done on past voyages. Checked our roll call, Miami to Miami November 2, but nothing happening there regarding Vintage Room. Thanks again for your help!

I'm not Keith but have done VR a few times. Just speak to the Head Sommelier when you board (we usually see him at lunch in Waterside on embarkation day) and let him know you are interested. When he has enough guests he will call you and ask you if you are still interested and off you go! Easy.

And the caddy at tea is not new to the new Crystal. It was being used on the old Crystal. Think it might have started after the return from the Covid shut down, but not 100% sure to that as I'm not a tea person.

    Patty

It was there before Covid, I definitely remember it on WC 2020 and maybe in 2019.

  3. Roy, thank you for taking time to keep us in the loop! Re a cane - perhaps the medical dept has one they could loan you? Once on Symphony, I was limping around due to a bad hip. The nurse happened by and saw me and immediately ran and got me a cane. All they can do is say no, you'll be no further behind and maybe they actually have one to loan.

  4. I'm not good at uploading pictures but we had an amazing seafood tower at Cafe Sydney, atop the Customs House, fabulous views. And if you are somewhat physically fit, the bridge climb is amazing!

Terry is right about Manly, it's a fun day trip. I would skip the Zoo and do Featherdale Wildlife Park as it focuses on Australian wildlife, and while the zoo is a great zoo, it's still a zoo. A trip up to the Blue Mountains would be a wonderful day too. You better plan a week in Sydney!

I agree completely a lot of unforced errors on Crystal’s excursion. What I was trying to put across was I enjoyed the experience of being there for NYE very much and when I was there to experience it.

I was on that Crystal organized NYE party cruise a previous year (2012) and it was awesome. In the intervening year there was a change in management and that meant all the difference. We 2 boats, fully stocked with lobsters and Sydney oysters etc, and never ran out of Veuve. It was an amazing experience, we had our whole family with us and they were wowed. I know Terry had an awful time of it the following year, but I would hope the problems will be no more, especially under this new management.

See Post#36 on news/comments from Symphony.

You say you had a horrible meal - what made it horrible? Under or over cooked? Too saucy? Ill prepared? You just didn't like it?

  7. Interesting. Those photos were taken by a guest, not the restaurant. So you prefer your food plain, not Italian? I suppose you could order many dishes where you could ask to "hold the sauce".

  8. I'm not in love with the looks of the restaurant, I really don't like those couches - difficult for the middle person. However, I do think the menu is interesting and I would try any dish except the risotto (I'm not a risotto fan). I'd be interested in which dishes people were so turned off by. I haven't seen anyone say the food was bad, just that they didn't like the choices. Well there's lamb and fish and pasta and duck, all of which were available in Prego, just different versions. So what is so bad about this osteria?

No idea what you are talking about.

The current VP of Entertainment came up with the idea for Crystal to go with this and it began on the night Symphony and Serenity were each dong World Cruises and were in Sydney.

    Keith

White NIght was a "thing" on Azamara. Edie brought it to Crystal, it was not original to the VP Entertainment in Crystal.

I wanted to note that the idea for a white night and now a white party came from the VP of Crystal Entertainment. It is not like they do on Azamara and he didn't get that idea from them. But I believe he did from another cruise line.

Again, think of it as a mixer and another opportunity to socialize with your fellow guests and for those who enjoy dancing another opportunity to dance.

And when you cruise it's OK to wear white even in the winter months no matter what anyone else tells you.

    Keith

Actually, it was E.R. who brought it from Azamara - or sold the idea to the entertainment people. Don't you remember that?

I have a pair of solid white sneakers that I could wear with the white pants and shirt if sneakers would be appropriate in the evening.

    Comments?

NO ONE will be looking at your feet!

    I wouldn't wear sports shoes.

Well, Keith, SOME of us are a bit older than you and have foot and back issues and nice shoes are now a thing of the past for us. Remember that gorgeous Cybil Shepherd? All she ever wore were Reeboks due to her foot/back issues. Even my Dad, who was a fashion plate, wore his black Reeboks on formal occasions due to leg/foot issues. If you judge me by my feet you are going so much lower!

However, experience with the Spa was substandard at best. That is, none of the pre booked appointments appeared in their system plus their published prices were higher by $10 or more than what was posted on the Crystal website. Reception Spa staff seemed confused and unable to resolve the simplest of problems including the scheduling of appointments. The one service I did receive was incomplete.

I have found this with the spa every time we have cruised on Crystal! (50+) They must not ever update their published prices and it is annoying to say the least. I hope you feel better very soon!

Ok, so what’s the deal with White Night?

Does this happen on every cruise?

We are on the 8 night Alaska cruise next August and Lee Ann just went on Amazon and ordered me a pair of white workout pants for the cruise.

    Greg

Workout pants? I think that’s a bit too casual. Better to wear another color.

Why the eye roll at Laurel, Maryland?  😞 Some of us are proud to live near there!

    Vince

I think the eyeroll was amazement that the mailing went to UK from Laurel instead of a larger city. I don’t think there was an intentional insult.
