  1. Not only did I talk to guest services, we are in the haven and have concierge looking into it as well. They said it was supposed to be fleet wide starting in March as a "high season" kids policy and all based on the security officers max capacity in each kids area. On the gem its 76 but for example the getaway its higher due to a dual floor kids club. They put in a call/email to ncl corporate for me and will let me know tomorrow what the answer is. Which is 1- if this was a high season only policy can they remove it now, 2- is this going to stay this way.

We have a family cruise booked and paid for in July, this will be our first time with NCL but we never had this problem with RCCI, we switched from RCCI to NCL for our July cruise, now I'm hoping we dont regret it! Bad planning on NCL part.

  2. We booked Hyatt Miami Airport Doral, it offers 2 queen bed, a sectional sofa sleeper, it has a free airport shuttle, free hot breakfast and the front desk manager seemed very helpful when I called to ask about travel to the port, she said she has a coupon for a free Uber cab ride to the port. We chose this one as it will hold all 6 of us and we have free breakfast, free airport and most likely free port shuttle. It has great reviews on tripadviosr.

  3. I am researching a room in Miami on hotwire and came across this and am wondering if this is the miami hilton hotel downtown?

    3 1/2 stars $206 per night

    pet friendly,fitness center,pool,restaurant,business center,internet,tennis nearby

    My dates are 2/5/16 & 2/6/16

does anyone know if this is the hotel?

Just wondering how you did with this, looking for something in MIA with free airport shuttle, free breakfast, and close to the port.

  4. I just scored a Intercontinental Miami room on Hotwire for a total of $105 after Resort Fee for June 2015. If you use their mobile app to book use promo code Get25 works to save $25.

Hotwire info: Downtown Miami area hotel 95% recommended

What convinced me it was the Intercontinental before booking was the $10 Resort Fee.

    OOps just saw hotwire

  5. Thank you!

Did you stay in the cabin? If how, how do you tell from the deck plan? in this video of 9318, the bed is by the balcony:

and in this video of 9322, the bed is by the closet:

9320 seems to not fit in the alternating bed position of closet, balcony, closet, etc.

    Just curious!

If you go to crucon website and go through the steps of booking on the getaway, choose a sailing far out, and choose your cabin type, then if you click on the cabin number in the left hand column it will tell you where the bed is located. I spent alot of time doing that today for the booking we made today.

  6. I'm not normally one to post on these boards, as there are many cruisers much more experienced than I am, but we are currently onboard the Allure of the Seas on a Transatlantic crossing...our 5th with RCCL. Royal Caribbean has a new program for booking a future cruise while onboard one of their ships. If you put down a deposit on the future cruise, immediately (well, within 24 hours) they credit that amount toward your ship account for the cruise that you are currently on. This amount also counts as a deposit for the future cruise.

Now, experienced cruisers will say that in the end, this almost matches their past policy, as you don't get the onboard credit for the next cruise, but you get it today.

I would normally put my tips of $12/day plus internet on my shipboard account, then settle it with a credit card. I just put $200 down as deposits on each of two future cruises, for a total of $400. They put $400 on my current account which I will use against my expenses.

Assuming that I take the future cruises, when I get to the final payment date, I will pay the price less the $200 deposit. They can be moved to another cruise as long as this is done before the final payment date. If I cancel, and never take another RCCL cruise, I still haven't lost anything, as I would have paid my onboard account anyway.

I'm not sure if this makes sense, but I see no reason to pay any onboard account directly, this should be paid through the future booking department.

I welcome feedback if there is anything wrong with this strategy. The booking can also be transferred to a travel agency if you prefer to deal with them or you get additional freebies from your agent. I have gone that route before, but find it a lot easier to make changes, etc. directly with the cruise line, knowing that I may be giving up a free dinner upgrade or an additional onboard credit.

Totally agree with this line of thinking, we did the same on our last cruise.

  7. We have been given 500 free minutes with the AllIn package, cruising in 4 weeks. Wonder how they handle this,,,

Also, they are ONLY offering the 179 dollar plan? There are no other , smaller packages? Pretty pricey if you only need 60 minutes!

I plan to call tomorrow and ask what our options are as we will have 4 of us wanting to use it.

Thanks for everyone's replies, now if someone would just bring back their dailies from the tortola route on the Getaway!

  8. We went over to the port at 11:00am and were onboard just before noon - note: we were in The Haven. I believe general boarding starts at noon. Our unlimited internet package for the week was $179 and that covered our suite. I don't know what you do for people in multiple cabins but I don't think it would matter if they logged onto your account - I just don't know as we didn't try that. My husband has a IPhone he can use as a hotspot, but it would have been in international roaming mode which would have cost a lot more, so we didn't use it. You might want to call your provider to find out what the fees would be if you tried to do it that way. We just used the ship's WIFI which was sufficient for our needs.

The Getaway is a wonderful ship and I believe you will have a great vacation!

Thanks so much for the info!

  9. Movie today was "Edge of Tomorrow." They are also showing "Now You See Me" later tonight.

You're welcome in regards to Shanghai's Noodle Bar. It is a much larger venue than on other ships - I think it can seat 40 or maybe more. It's very pretty.

We spent this afternoon at the spa. It was wonderful. The spa goes from port to starboard across the front on the 15th floor. You enter towards the starboard side, then from the port side, there is the aroma therapy steam room, salt chamber, sauna and saunarium, followed by the water circuit and hot tub. All across the front, facing the windows are heated tile loungers. There are also many padded loungers, a drink station with tea and flavored water (varies by day).

Breakfast and lunch in The Haven restaurant again.

I walked around the ship some after lunch to look at spaces I had not previously visited. Finally found H2O - there is a huge area with a water fall where you can sit in the shade and 2 hot tubs and a bar. Other than that, it is open deck for sunbathing. The arcade is very nice with some very fancy arcade machines and prize vending machines.

I wanted to mention that the fireworks occurred on the night of the day we were in BVI which was Day 4 - Tuesday at 10:45pm - Cinco de Mayo. For some reason, I was under the impression that the fireworks would be on Thursday. At any rate I was asleep at the time and they woke me, so I got up to watch them a little from our balcony. Very pretty.

The Carnival Sensation AND the Getaway are BLASTING music at each other across the dock as passengers come back to the ships. It is LOUD! Even inside on 14 I can hear it somewhat. LOL! You would think that in this situation, where the ships are side by side, they would only play music on one side for both ships. Instead it's like a competition down there!

I hate that our cruise is ending. 1 week really isn't enough to do everything onboard. Even 2 weeks might be too short to enjoy all there is on this ship. I want to say how much i have enjoyed this ship and that I hope we can do it (or one of the sister ships or the newest ship) again, REAL SOON. I know a lot of people are having a fit over the room service fee and not being able to take food to go from restaurants, but we've found this to be no problem whatsoever for us. Last night was the ONLY time it might have impacted us. We had dinner at Ocean Blue and they gave my husband a b-day cake from Carlo's bakery (they are the ONLY specialty restaurant that gives this special cake from Carlo's) along with dessert. We couldn't eat it after all 3 courses (and a pre-dinner snack at Raw Bar), so they used room service to send the whole b-day cake to our cabin. It arrived within 5 minutes of our return along with the correct cutlery and plates, no charge. I suppose they could have used the night butler alternatively but I told the waitress I felt bad about bothering him. My husband has been eating this THIRD b-day cake all day long. He LOVES chocolate and it's a chocolate cake, but different from the chocolate cake I sent him from Carlo's bakery that I ordered off the internet prior to the cruise. I can't remember if I mentioned the white birthday cake of the other day from the butler? So, my husband got 2 chocolate cakes and 1 white birthday cake - three birthday cakes in all! Luckily, he is fit and healthy and can eat all of this! Tonight we go to Le Bistro again. I'm hoping we get Chateubriand!

I checked our onboard account and found it accurate and no surprises. That's always nice to not have to hassle with guest relations over that.

We will do walk-off early disembarkation tomorrow morning via the concierge as we have a late morning flight. On this ship, the forward staff elevators, right off the concierge lounge, go down to close to where you would disembark and there is a permanent red carpet installed there for suite guests, so I'm expecting that is how we will be disembarked. If so, nothing could be simpler or more direct.

Did you pre order bday cakes or could you do that on embark day, we will be celebrating a bday but would like to use onboard credit to plan the bday celebration.

  10. We are currently aboard the Getaway in a spa suite. We boarded on Saturday. Shortly after boarding, we were in an elevator when an elderly lady on a walker spouted out: "Well, I'm already disappointed in this ship." another female passenger offered, "Perhaps you should wait more than 2 hours to decide..." LOL!

Anyway, we are NOT disappointed in this ship at all. It is just beautiful. ALL of the food has been excellent. We had a great dinner in Le Bistro, a great dinner in The Haven Restaurant and a great dinner in Cagney's and that's just so far. The spa is wonderful. Our spa suite is wonderful. We enjoyed the show in the Illusionarium. We had a great sushi lunch/dinner prior to the show. We really have no complaints whatsoever.

Yesterday in the BVI we went to The Bath's and passed by Necker Island and Richard Branson's house there. Today, we are in beautiful St. Thomas. Life is great!

Let me know if you have any questions about this wonderful ship and I'll try to get an answer while onboard.

Can you tell me how the internet service is, we are thinking of doing a package and then turning on the device as a hot spot for the rest of the family to use. Also can you please bring back a copy of the dailies? Have never been on NCL or to tortola and would love to have them to use in planning.

  11. I want to see it too because I am on that May 2nd cruise, I guess everything will be the same except the day of Tortola

Hopefully you will post yours or scan them and email or I would be happy to scan and email to others if you mail them to me.

  12. I will be heading on the Getaway on the 25th and we will be heading to Tortola, I be leave we r the first itinerary to be heading there. since u r heading on as I get off I will not be able to get the sallies up in time. But I behave if u check Royal Carribean sallies they have stopped there before.

We are sailing on July 18th and have the tortola stop, I have copies from the other route and would greatly appreciate it you could get copies from your sailing. In the past I told my cabin steward to leave 2 sets, so I could use one and bring one back for reference. I'd pay for mailing costs if you could get an extra set!
