South Excursions or About Chile Transfers

I have a quote from both companies for a transfer from Santiago to the port at Valap and was wondering if anyone knows which company is better--South Excursions or AboutChile? Thanks.

We cannot comment about South Excursions, which we have not used, but we were happy with the service provided by AboutChile. We used them on three days in Feb.-March 2013:

(1) to meet us at the dock in Valparaiso, tour Valpo and Vina del Mar for a few hours (with a lunch stop), and then drive us to our hotel in Santiago.

(2) the next day, provide a half-day walking tour in downtown Santiago.

(3) a few days later, pick us up at our Santiago hotel and take us to a hotel in Vina del Mar with stops at two wineries en route.

We had also arranged for AboutChile to provide us with tour/transfer #1 in March 2010 but had to cancel almost literally at the last minute because of travel disruptions caused by the great Chilean earthquake of 27 Feb. 2010. AboutChile refused to accept the payment we tried to give them for that late cancellation. We hope that our use of this group in 2013 in part made up for that.

I expect we will use AboutChile again if and when we return to Santiago, as we hope to do.

We use Southexcursions and had an excellent two days with them. We are using them again Jan 2014.

We used South Excursions Jan 2014 for two tours. One was a Santiago City Tour with airport pickup and one was a transfer from Santiago to Valparaiso with a winery tour. The city tour was a complete waste of time and money. Sights that should have been included were not and the guide was not very knowledgeable. The transfer to the port was a much better tour with some things added that should have been on the original city tour.

We recently used Alwyn of Chilean Journey (chileanjourney.cl) for a tour in Santiago one day and then the next day in Valparaiso/Vina del Mar prior to our cruise. We could not have been happier - he was excellent and his English was great. We had a problem with luggage not arriving from the U.S. and he followed up with the airline for us. He charges a fair price and doesn't expect payment until the end of the agreed upon touring. We highly recommend him.

We used South Excursions for 3 tours last month. They did a great job! One that we did was Valparasio to Santiago, did a dY long tour on that one.
