Help Chosing Cabin for Jewel

HI all, i am going to book my cruise today for myself and my best friend. She has never cruised before. I have, and always had a mid ship cabin, decks 8-9 (on the two RC cruises i took)...and loved them! This is my first NCL sailing!

We are going in November to Bahamas, and the only options in our price range for balcony cabins are aft 9 or 10. (specifically 10160, 10660 which is an upgrade, and for deck 9 there are several in the aft both right and left sides).

My question is- i am somewhat prone to motion sickness- is it worth it for me to pay a little more and get a mid ship room on deck 10? (100 pp more!?)

I think i will get used to the motion but is there anything above those cabins that would be noisy ? such as pool or theater?

Is the aft better then the front? I would think so - i have read on other threads the aft is actually the better place to be...

I am going to pull the trigger, but just need some reassurance first :) I want it to be a great experience for us both...

The theatre is on the lower decks.. 7 and 6 I believe.. so that's not an issue... and the pool is near mid-ship more towards the front on deck 12.. so I can't see a problem with anything on deck 10...

We always book mid ship as I find it to be the best in respect to motion. I have heard lower levels you feel less movement then the higher up you are. We usually cruise on deck 11 and never had a problem. What category is the extra 100 pp for? We have never heard noise from the above deck from pool area and I am a light sleeper :D

Thanks for the info. I am now concerned b/c i saw there is an azipod issue on this ship. I have the alternative option of booking the GEM. Should i be concerned enough to pay a little more and book the GEM rather then the Jewel?

Which week were you looking to book? We are on 11/7 and had the same concern. Our TA called NCL and they mentioned only the 11/28 cruise was being cancelled and the ports of call will not be affected based on the amount of sea time.

OP: A room midship on deck 9 or 10 is fine. Much less motion there and there's nothing above or below you to cause any sort of noise issue. I'd go for that. Aft can get interesting if the ship encounters rough seas. I've always stayed mid-ship on the Jewel and never had any problems with it. I did stay closer to aft on another ship and didn't enjoy it (rough seas). Something to consider I guess... you'll like the Jewel! :)

As another poster mentioned, the Jewel will be in dry dock 11/28 for repairs to the azipod. Once that is taken care of the problem will no longer be an issue. I just loved my sailing on her. Nice ship, great crew. It actually is more of an advantage to be closer to the aft of the ship than forward because you'll be that much closer to Tsar's dining room and the Garden Cafe.

We were in room #9122 which officially is considered mid-ship but is more towards the aft. Had absolutely no issues with the location. Enjoy your cruise!

Just wanted to add that you should avoid 10162 or 10660 because part of the view is hidden by the ships superstructure. This does not apply to 10160 or 10660.

of course the most stable place on the ship is mid, but aft is usually pretty good and our favorite part. Unless you are very prone to sea sickness I don't think you need to be mid ship. This is a choice only you can make.

Thx for all the responses. I think considering the issues and cabin location, i am leaning towards the GEM. The itiniary is the same, and its a newer boat i believe. Now, i am just waiting to see if my friend can come up w/ another 100 and i will be booking room on deck 9, midship!

Loved being aft on the Jewel. It felt much more private. My husband is prone to motion sickness and he did fine.

midship deck 9 is great and i'm willing to pay more to be there.

We had aft on deck 10 (10634 I believe) and it was fine. It was closer to mid ship than to the back but it was still considered aft.

We were in cabin 10642, which is more AFT and it was just fine. No noise from decks 11 or 9, as they have only passenger cabins, no public rooms. Just three decks below is the Tsars dining room. Theater and casino are all the way at the other end of the ship, quite a trek!
