Ms Jo UK Posted June 28, 2018 #1 Share Posted June 28, 2018 Hi I currently have a cancellable reservation at the Hilton Riverside but have received an offer to use my air miles at a bonus rate for either the Marriott or Le Meridian and wondered if anyone has comments on either of those hotels. This would be 2 nights pre cruise and we would be taking a taxi (mobility issues) even if we stayed at the Hilton so getting to port, doesn't really need consideration. Post cruise we are staying in the French Quarter at the Holiday Inn CL, for 2 nights and we are OK with that as we wanted a room with a balcony. I would really appreciate any feedback on the 2 hotels in the Title. TIA
ellieanne Posted June 30, 2018 #2 Share Posted June 30, 2018 I've never been to the Le Meridien, but I know the Marriott is a nice hotel in an excellent location for access to the French Quarter and the St. Charles Avenue Streetcar. Le Meridien is a bit further from both, though it's a great location for the Harrah's Casino and the Riverfront Streetcar. As a native, my choice would be the Marriott if I were staying in the Quarter and wanting to tour the city.
Rare Saint Greg Posted June 30, 2018 #3 Share Posted June 30, 2018 Which Marriott are we talking about? Convention Center or Canal Street? Marriott on Canal Street would be a great location for you to see the French Quarter. I've stayed at that Le Meridien hotel a few times, but not since it has changed to Le Meridien. 10 years ago it was a W. I stayed there a couple of time then. When it changed from W it was just Hotel New Orleans Downtown for a year before it became Le Meridien about 5 years ago. I last stayed there during that transition period when it was Hotel New Orleans downtown. It was always a nice hotel when I stayed there. It's next door to Harrah's if that interests you. Rare Saint Greg Posted June 30, 2018 #4 Share Posted June 30, 2018 Oh your post cruise must be Holiday Inn Chateau Lemoyne. I've stayed there as well and really liked it. That's a great location as well.
Ms Jo UK Posted July 1, 2018 Author #5 Share Posted July 1, 2018 Thank you ellieanne and Saint Greg for your comments and information. We have chosen to stay at Le Meridien pre cruise as we don't need aceess to the French Quarter, swamp and plantation tour 1st day and boarding the ship the second day. Saint Gregg you are right it is the Holiday Inn Chateau Lemoyne . But I need some further advice from you if you can. I have just noticed that the offer I was sent also has the Royal Sonesta at the same price as Holiday Inn Chateau Lemoyne so now I am really confused as to which one would be better to stay in for 2 nights post cruise which is Thursday and Friday nights, the offer is for balcony rooms. TIA Jo

TIA Jo Sure. I’ve stayed at both. Like both. Recommend both. But there are clear differences. Royal Sonesta is a 4-4.5* Luxury hotel in the heart of Bourbon Street. Chateau Lamoyne is a smaller 3-3.5* hotel a block from Bourbon Street. For me if the price is the same I’m going Royal Sonesta every time. But I prefer luxury hotels and being right in the middle of the action. You may not. Also...Royal Sonesta will be a block closer to pretty much everywhere you’re going to be going in the French quarter if that makes a difference.
