Our ship leaves Venice at 1700, and I have read, that you have to be boarded 2 hours before departure, which means 1400. Is this strictly enforced. We plan to take the secret tour of the Doge's Palace, which starts about 1000. Thank you.

We did the private after hours doges palace and st marks and it was only 4 hours long. Plenty of time.

Also, if you find yourself in a rush, you can take the Alikiguna (not vaperetto) from SAn Zacharri directly to the port. This does not go down the grand canal to plaza Roma- it detours all those stops via the shipping channel. Will save you at least an hour- maybe more.

I agree Alalaguna all the way! You can take it to the port via the Piazza where the buses go and go over the overhead bridge.

thank you for the information.

You are very welcome. Venice is one of my most favorite cities in the world. I never tire of it and no matter how many times I visit I am always overwhelmed. You are in for a superior treat :)
